Popping some Humbolt Seed Company's Jelly Donutz. Placing 2 seeds into a cotton swab, spraying with water, and placing into a ziplock to germinate. I have a ton of success with this method, and it's pretty easy. Just needs a nice warm spot to hang out in.
When those pop, they'll be placed into a 1 gallon living soil mixture. I'll fill the pot with dirt, but leave a cup-sized imprint using a solo cup in the dirt. I'll fill that spot with a special mycelium-mix soil to encourage root production.
Long term, these plants will be watered with Blumats. Those Blumats are connected to a bucket, elevated above the growing plane to allow for gravity to do it's magic. The bucket has a float valve, which allows water from the RO to replenish the water as it's used by the plants. There is a probe connected to an aquarium controller, connected to a peristaltic pump that will keep the Ph between 6.5-7.0 (probe reads the PH, controller can tell when PH is low, and the pump will flow Ph down into the water). It makes for a pretty-much maintenance free existence, and allows me to focus on plant training.
I'll be running this grow using the FloraFlex Turn and Burn schedule. Lights will run 24-7 for veg (18 for the main light and 6 for an aux light), and we'll do a heavy defoliation on day 14 flower. This is supposed to increase the turnover time for a room while keeping the same yields. I've grown using FloraFlex's traditional SOP to much success, so we'll see how this goes. Because I'm only growing two plants this run, we'll be doing the tomato cage method (vs. the trellis net, which I despise). It's hard to do when there's more than two in a grow tent, mainly because I can't fully open my tent due to the HVAC and controls. Doing two plants only is going to allow more flexibility and work to occur.
Environment is controlled by an Autopilot F90. Intake / Exhaust fans are plugged into the "Cool" plug. A humidifier is plugged into the "Humidity" plug during veg. Once flower starts, we'll remove the humidifier and lock the AC / Humidity controls together (basically uses the fans to remove heat and humidity during flower). We have a heater plugged into the "heat" plug at all times. I'm not adding CO2 to this grow. Your environment is EVERYTHING in a grow, and making sure it's dialed in automatically really allows you to focus on the growth and training of the plants. It also eliminates a ton of worry and hassle from the daily work. I recommend everyone get an environmental controller, even is you're using a small tent. It takes your grow quality to the next level.
This grow also represents a major shift for me: Growing for myself only. For years, I've been focused on my patients. I'm now just focused on myself, and all my grows moving forward will be private stash. Of course, I still plan to share some with loved ones. But now I'm focused on keeping things in one tent, following my pruning schedules to a tee, and harvesting beautiful plants.
Thanks for reading. Let's take this one from start to finish!
