It's cold and seeds are not germinating very good. I just started 8 pots with random seeds I have breed in the past, mostly skunk and indica.
Seeds are being fed fresh running rainwater from the storm out there. My ex neighbor left behind some Arizona mountain soil which I have mixed in with my own blend..soil was flushed with hydrogen per oxide to kill gnat larvae. This is a nutrient rich acidic soil and I am going to try to hold off on feeding nuites of any type at least until late veg or early flower.
Once I have sprouted all eight pots with wide open petals I'll declare week 1.
One pot had to be started over. The other 7 are a mix on week 1. The start over pot is germinated a confirmed Skunk#1. The others are a mix of older skunk and indica's.
Hydrogen peroxide for gnat prevention.
11 randoms on weeks 1 and 2.
Mostly skunk. One looks like a sativa. A few indicas
Regular photo period seeds.
Update 12/31
Looks like another has sprouted and I have it to the overflow pot. This could be a Turkish seed that I couldn't germinate. it sprouted in the pot that I put the seeds I couldn't germinate in alongside an indica plant just in case they were good seeds. I had four of those Turkish seeds in that pot and looks like one of them actually sprouted. I am not 100% certain it's he Turk yet. Let's see how it goes
So there are now 12 young plants/ seedlings and tone is likely the Turkish strain.
Bad week. Nute lock out due to over watering. I tried stirring up the soil with a spoon, squeezing out the excess and using a space heater. They seem to be recovering somewhat. I just need to dry these pots out and aerate the soil. Don't have root rot, yet. I'm optimistic they will bounce back. This soil does not drain well. So I'll be dealing with that for the next two weeks.
The other problem is we are in a cold spell. So it's a cold damp environment and I have to make the necessary adjustments. After using the space heater I noticed an encouraging improvement.
The one plant shows calcium deficiency. There is plenty enough calcium in the soil and water. This is a general nute lock out due to over soaked roots. Curable, not too late.
They seem to have fully recovered from the over watering ordeal. New growth is not yellow spotted and is rational, not drooping or malformed.
Plants are in 2 & 4 weeks. They are short and stout and the weather is cold and dry. They look okay
Well another week, it was warmer this week. This is going to be a long veg for this grow. The foliage looks mostly okay.
One plant outgrew the others significantly having very broad leaves and thickened stem. I have it a strict defoliation and tipped it. FIM. That should stall it out long enough for the others to catch up. That's pretty much how I try to keep the canopy level.
So, these weekly updates will probably which plants I topped that week for awhile. This will take some weeks before the next phase
So watch the leaves grow...
Topping and defoliating. Yellow speckles suggestive of a pH or nute issue. Not concerned unless it turns out to be more serious, pests or mold.I rigged up a new spray bottle but I need to get to the store and pick some H2O2 and distilled water for a spray down, to prevent pests and mold in here. There have been fungus gnats, but now there are fewer of them. They probably laid eggs and died. So time for some oxyganization for the roots and leaves.ill pick up some distilled water too
But it's pretty much chop and top and keep the lights on.
Sure am glad I don't pay 6 dollars a seed.if these were feminized autos Id have to worry over this stuff. This is why I like just breeding my own photo periods
Update; Picked up some hydrogen peroxide and distilled water.i'll start by spraying only one leaf that is likely to be plucked anyway.
I mixed 3% hydrogen peroxide with and equal volume of distilled water. So I'll start with a 1,5% solution.
Update:I just sprayed all the leaves and flushed the soil with 1.5 % hydrogen per oxide solution. I will repeat this one more time during the week.
Everything is awful. Looks like root rot.
I removed most of the leaves It's bad.
I think it came from the plastic bottle that I used for watering. Disposed if it. Cutting off all nutes except cal-mag. No more hydrogen peroxide. Might go pick up some Arrowhead water.
Even if this revivers the buds will be small. It's not going to be a good grow. Too much damage
New growth looks clean. They are stretching and bulking up.Looks like they have started to recover.
Big plants make bigger buds and are more resistant to whatever mistakes I am likely to make. So I am going to give these plants a chance to bulk up before I go to a 12 hour light schedule. They still have a lot of recovering to do.
I think the bacteria anti fungicide supplement helped. They really are starting to look healthier.
All of the new foliage is healthy. These are healthy growing plants that are bulking up nicely. I can switch to 12 hour light schedule anytime I choose. They are also producing terpene odor and likely have already begun producing cannabinoids. They are drinking a lot of water. I will probably give them two more weeks if 16 hour light and then switch to 12.
12 hours. Flowering.
2 males identified. 8 females identified. 2 yet to be identified.
To recap, there are 12 plants. One is certainly the only Turkish seed to germinate after a failed attempt with a five pack.Turns out that one sprout previously mentioned is indeed a sativa so it is that Turkish strain.it is female.
The rest are afghan dominant skunk and indica, a random mix.
The two males appear to be skunk. I may try to pollinate the lower buds on that Turkish plant.
Week 2 of flower and looking great. All males have been chopped. There will be no breeding.I am left with 7 female skunks and 1 female Turkish. 8 females in good health.and stretching.
Week 4 flower.
The weather has been cold and wet which is slowing things down.
They all look real healthy but growth has slowed a little. Once it warms up again it should pick up
I did a little defoliating to let some more light reach the lower buds. Also a bit of stem bending to help expose more bud sites.
Week 5 flower.
Another storm came through. Cold and damp right now. There were a couple days this week when it was warm and dry. Dry air better for these bufs. Cold air slows growth..Wish it would warm up and all these little bufs would turn into bigger buds. But the plants are all very healthy.
Week 6 of flower. The Turkish looks like it's already in the finishing stage. 90% red hairs with milkies. The skunk randoms iare ranging 10% to 70% red hairs with mainly clears.
It looks like I have a few, sparse seeds. I'll box them as " uncategorized skunk hybrids 2024" in my seed collection.
I might be chopping that Turkish plant very soon. Not sure.
The buds have all fattened up this past week.
Okay, that's it for the Turkish.i chopped the rest of that plant this morning and it's on the dryer.
Which leaves the Afghan Skunk mix.
There are seven of those left. A couple of them are okay for chopping already. It seems the plants that get topped might finish earlier. A couple other larger ones like they need a few more weeks.
No plans to do anything right now except enjoy that Turkish bud. That plant yielded about ten grams of good bud.
There is a strong skunk odor. All of the plants are in very good health and finishing nicely. I think if your flowering nutrients contain a lot of sulphur you get more of that skunk odor. No citrus smell, it all stinks to high heaven. That Turkish was very sticky and hashy..
Just chopped the top half and left the rest to continue on. These bufs are good enough and I need something to smoke. I will update this review later.
Trimming notes; very resinous. Finger trimming without tools. Sticky. Strong chaparral odor.. Like hiking in the California foothills after a rain. Flowery smell mixed with other stuff. A bit like lichen, outdoorsy with a trace of sulphurous low notes along with stronger green spicy high notes Like a Mexican skunk in the Sonora Desert during monsoon season. A wet green stink weed.
The Flower Fuel that I use provides a lot of sulphur. Cannabis that gets a lot of sulphur often smells skunky at harvesting.
Will air dry with a window AC unit
Day 2 drying update:
From what I can ascertain so far, from these two sub - mature branches which yelled about 3 whole grams is a hybrid strain and very skunk like. It has a sativa growth and and morphology but the buds, although well spaced inter-nodally, as is common with sativa's, has dense round buds with closely spaced bracht's that resemble an Afghan. Most of my sativa's have longer, more narrow, continuous buds that are slow to finish and are airy or "larfy"..This Turkish is like a Mexican stinkweed. A skunky, green, sticky hash plant.
Like I said it's not even dry yet. I didn't let the fact that it was not fully ripe for harvest prevent me from chopping that too off so why should a guy like me wait for the drying process to complete itself before smoking it? Patience takes too long.
So that's what I did, five minutes ago.
The taste is minty and bitter. Even though it was green the smoke was not harsh at all. Obviously I had to hold the lighter over the bowel for a long time to do that bowel. The result was like a little like burning oil. The buds are very oily so it was a long burn time. The hot, gassey fumes were hot but not harsh or hurtful. The exhale had a bitter minty, oily feel. The cannabinoids could be felt at this moment.
The buzz is about as intense as you want to make it. Right now I'm feeling it. So there is strong THC with mild psychedelic effects, no nervousness or paranoia but that's just me, some people would regard this as hard hitting and others like me are experiencing it in a controllable manner and are just sailing along and writing reviews
Uhm. I'll check back in later
One week later. Great stuff. Just chopped the rest of the plant today. Looks like the total bud weight for this one plant is about ten grams
Week 8 of flower.
Soon to be chopped.Just started soaking the seeds for the next grow. Those seeds will determine the harvest date. When they start sprouting in the starter pods and need pots and this space, I will harvest these plants So this could be the final week, if not next
Just getting started with harvest. Will update later. Going to be needing that s space for next grow which will be Lao Gold.
Quick drying on AC. Smells good. Starts with a fruity kiwi like odor, fades to a flowery jasmine odor towards a skunky smell. All that in one sniff.
Low to medium potency. Smooth and relaxing.
Harvesting 65 grams total dry buds. A few seeds recovered "uncategorized skunk 2924" strain. So, it's mostly afghan with skunk genetics. A low to medium THC potency population ranging 1-3 foot in height in my grow conditions. Size increases with skunk genetics and decreased with Afghan genetics potency and most other user experience factors are pretty much the interchangeable.
