Hello, this is my fourth grow (#1 & #2 on my profile). All bud is for personal use only. This go around I have 3 plants: 1 Surprise Auto & 2 Gorilla Zkittlez Autos. I grow in my closet, no tent, no filter, trying to see what kind of quality bud I can produce in this type of environment. I'm using Mother Earth's Groundswell soil with added peat moss. Using tap water. Using citric acid to lower the ph of my water. Oscillating fan for air flow. 2 art presentation boards lined with foil for light reflection. Cheapest ph pen & TDS meter I could find. DynaGro nutes grow/bloom along w OG Organics Tea & blended aloe leaves on occasion.
~follow along to see what type of yield this shitty set up can produce~
no training, I was curious how tall she would get. Noticed possible calcium deficiency spots on 1 set of leaves so fed 1tsp of calmag. feeding every other water. Been in flower for 3 weeks. Typically 3 days between waterings. First defoliation on day 33, removed 2 pairs of lowest branches but kept the leaves.
small flush with water & ProTekt day 53. Smelling dank, mainly of berries, getting sparkly & sticky. Using plant ties to bring outer branches to the center. Noticed new leaf markings this week. Increased ph of water from 6.2 to 6.7ish. Wasn't expecting such a tall plant with itty bitty branches but I guess that is a lesson learned. The buds on her look nice and chunky though. Im excited to see how they develop. Budget information below 👇

round down to the 7ounces I've grown
@ $ 300/oz = $ 2,100 - 758 = $ 1,342 saved, had I would've never started growing.
Looking back, I spent a lot more than I thought. Probably could have omitted some things and bought a tent. Oh well, I'll get one in the next six months. Already planning what photo beans I'm going to snag. Thinking about trying a Banana Kush & Mango 🤤
day 56: bloom feed 1/2tsp per g ~ added some rock weights to 2 branches. 1) to help the lower buds receive more light. 2) to see if the extra weight will cause the branch to strengthen and thicken therefore increasing bud size.
day 58: tea feeding 1/4tsp per g
day 61: CaMg & bloom feed, added another rock weight to each branch that I'm testing. So far the branch has almost doubled in size where the bend is and I've noticed the buds are larger. Is it bc of the weight or normal bud development? Idk
noticed some leaf tips turning very bright yellow, they're not even near the grow light. Measured dli at top of plant and its only 21. Almost every single bud is foxtailing. I think it's PH stress & not heat. Going to lower my PH to 6.0 rest of the grow. Struggling to keep my RH in check.
Finished w week 6 of flower, 69 days since sprout. This lady is closest to chop out of my 3. Loupe shows 40/60 clear to cloudy trichs.
Gorilla Zkittlez from MSNL. Tall & Lanky pheno with few buds that are pretty damn big. Smells super dank of sweet berries, extremely sticky.
Besides chopping the 4 lowest branches, I have not defoliated ANY leaves. Nodes are far apart, branches are short, buds are large. I see trimming being a breeze.
She is foxtailing which I've never seen before this. I read its an undesirable trait and means the bud is inferior but I still think she's beautiful as ever.
Upon realizing this plant gave me few buds, I decided to train during flower to increase yield. The experiment with rock weights on branches may have increased yield. It definitely doubled the size of the branches which in theory should double the amount of water and nutrients these buds receive. I also super cropped the second pair of branches from the bottom. Couple weeks back I went through all buds, opening and separating the 2 buds at the base of the larger, main buds (idk if that makes sense) to increase light penetration. I believe all these practices have helped increase yield in some way.
I didn't train this girl during veg because I wanted to see how it grew without it. I'm not happy with this decision and will most likely do LST for all future autos. I doubt I'll get an ounce off of her. Was a true learning experience and I won't forget growing this tall, wobbly bitch.
~removed all training ties and weights and will let ger grow naturally until chop~
Week 7 of flower is finished, 77 days since sprout
Closely monitoring trichomes, amber popped up recently but still seeing lots of clear on the bottom half of plant
Better pics next week
Chopped on day 80 based on trichomes, smell & bud appearance 💚 Trim lasted little over an hour. Like I said, a breeze.
Recap: Growing in my closet with minimal effort to see what type of bud I can produce for personal use. Using citric acid to lower ph & tap water (hard 8.6 avg)
No training during veg, only during flower. No defoliation of leaves. Nutrient burn & possible lockout during mid-flower.
Getting a tent here soon for my next grows and probably some ph up & down. I think my lockout is from the mixture of citric acid and my awful tap water.
Bud smells super sweet w a hint of berry & skunk, thick trichomes, huge leaves where the fingers don't touch each
