I have started this diary on day 10 from seed.
The plant is around 2 inches high, with 4 single leaves in total (2 single leaves, then 2 single leaves above) and the next set of leaves are showing with what appears to be 3-leaf leaves coming out.
The leaves have started to curl up a bit, there is no fan in the cabinet it is growing in, as well as no thermometer to check temperature - although I leave the cabinet door open a little for air flow. I think it is most likely a heat issue. It might even be a PH issue. I will need to acquire a PH tester, fan and thermometer to make sure all is in check. Will update.
Will be feeding it Organic BioBizz nutrients when it is time.
Other than that, leaves are looking quite fat for this stage!
On Day 14 the plant is showing fast rates of growth, definitely staying true to the brand name of 'FastBuds'! You can see the huge growth in just 4 days (week 1's photo was day 10 from seed).
Unfortunately, the leaves are still remaining curled at the edges - again, still think it is a heat issue and should be expecting a fan to be delivered tomorrow.
Other than that, seems to be doing great.
So I fed her some BioBizz Heaven with her last feeding a few days ago and it seems like she is really loving it! Looking like she's happy, and is showing amazing signs of growth since last week.
Going to introduce more nutrients next feeding.
She's BUDDING!
Gave it a full course of feeding - I heard from someone that giving the nutes in stages is BS and you should give them all in one go throughout the course of the grow. We'll see how she reacts - gave her the feeding a few hours ago. She seems to be drooping a little but I only watered her a few days ago and felt she needed more, might have made a mistake there.
MAJOR ALERT guys.. She's been through war and back. And the war is not over...
Yesterday marked Week 5 (day 35).
Out of the blue, my in-laws decided to stay in the neighborhood for 2 weeks so they can visit my wife. While I live in a legal state, they are very conservative and would not be cool with it.
So, when they have come over, I have had to wrap her in a black garbage bag and hide her in my garden shed outside. The weather is currently so cold, I felt bad for her :(. This has happened twice so far and this has happened during her light cycle, for 3 hours one time, and for 5 hours the next. The first time, I hid her in such a rush, that it bent her and ripped out a few leaves, including the kola's :(. The second time I had time to take more care, but she bent like crazy (see photos).
I am nurturing her back to good health, I hope she heals - looks like the top kola bud's pistils are turning orange - too soon? I think she will bounce back, I feel she's a fighter. But, I may have to hide her again - we'll see. 10 days of them visiting left.
So, she looks battered compared to last week, but buds are growing and I hope they continue to. Will update.
Last week I reported on how she took a lot of damage due to having to move her. She seems to have recovered nicely and she straightened herself out within half a day - what a strong girl.
Unfortunately this week I am seeing HUGE signs of yellowing leaves! It started from the bottom fan leaves, and seems to be working its way up. I initially thought that perhaps it was just getting rid of the shaded fan leaves at the very bottom as they were no longer needed, but the yellowing is definitely spreading to fan leaves higher up that are still exposed to light.
Stupidly, I have not done any ph monitoring, tempertature monitoring, or humidity monitoring. I am mostly feeling like this is a PH issue. Perhaps nutrient lockout.
I am getting a PH reader and appropriate solutions to fix this possible PH issue. Will keep an update. I hope she doesnt die :(
Wow, what a beauty! She really started to fatten up in the past 4 days!
Finally got the tools to test PH and to measure temperature and humidity (very late, I know).
Luckily, PH off run-off and soil was around 6.8. Humidity varies from 40-42%. Air temperature is 25-28c.
I'm guessing the lower yellowing leaves is the plant uptaking nutrients it needs that I perhaps have not covered with the nutes I am using. Doesnt seem like too much of an issue as it isnt actually spreading further up at an alarming rate. The newer younger leaves are showing signs of nute burn as last feeding we gave her a much higher dose of feding. Whilst it wasnt overkill, I think due to the low humidity, the plant was uptaking water/nutes too fast.
Excited to see how she develops over the next 2 weeks.
As you can see, she went through some crazy changes this week.
I panicked at first due to the yellowing leaves spreading at a fast rate. After realising that the yellowing leaves were only effecting the main fan leaves and secondary fan leaves, and after doing much research, I concluded that I simply did not feed her enough nutes during the grow, and that the yellowing was a sign of early flushing of Nitrogen. The plant is flushing itself a little earlier than I'd like due to the lack of enough feeding early on, but I guess that just means a smoother smoke! The top leaves are also purpling (which I think is cool).
Other than that, the buds are swelling up! She doesn't give off a strong smell, but there's definitely a smell - however, when you touch the buds and smell your fingers - WOW! SO strong! Smells SO TASTY! A mix of citrus / grapefruit and other scents I can't pin-point. Gave her a feed of Top-max and Bloom today and will give her pure water from here on after. Feel like she has one or two weeks left.
Was worried she wasn't really showing much signs of smell, but this last week she has been STINKING! The smell really does smell like cookies, I know it sounds like I'm reaching, but I SWEAR it's like cookies! Started with a real citrus/hazey smell and now it smells like shortbread cookies or something. Bud sites are swelling and can see a noticeable difference from last week (especially with the side nodes).
Think she has one week left until harvest!
FINALLY reached harvest guys! WOOHOO! My second ever grow and I'm pretty proud!
From a seed to BEAUTIFUL BUDS! Man! It really puts it into perspective how beautiful and NATURAL this medicine is!
Thought she could go for longer but I checked her trichomes yesterday and there was a good number of amber trichs all over which is just what I was waiting for, so decided to chop her! That makes it one day short of 10 weeks from seed to harvest!
Decided to wet-trim her, and dry the buds still attached to the branches. I cut the branches off so they can hang separately. Surprisingly there is NO grassy/hay smell and she smells so DANK! I think that was definitely due to the plant flushing itself early. Couldn't resist not sampling some so I quick-dried a small bit of bud in the oven and loaded a bowl in the bong.... Incredible!! Absolutely NO harshness OR grassy taste at this stage!!! Got me REALLY stoned! Super indica to me, felt really relaxed and I have a super high tolerance. And that's without proper drying or curing. I'm going to update a smoke report and add more photos once this is dried and cured.
Other than that, she was a beauty to grow. Took a lot of physical damage in week 5 but she bounced back like a warrior. Amazing results for organic nutrients, also considering I under-fed her like crazy. Came out not as dense as I wanted, but also not wispy/fluffy - will give a full feeding and possibly up the watts with a new light next time.
Will give weight once dried too. Right now I have the buds in a 50% humidity / 21c environment with a little airflow. Expecting it to dry within 7-10 days.00
