deFharo 🖐️👨‍🌾 Welcome, underground cannabis enthusiasts! Transplant day for this seedling conceived at home and now grown in the warmth of the household. I've chosen one of the 3 seedlings from this gypsy roots strain to cultivate at home; the other two I will take to the woods next week. After making a complex base substrate mix, I add up to 18 powdered minerals to create an ideal habitat for root expansion, quick microbiology establishment, and nutrient absorption. The pot chosen for this homemade strain is an old 7L black pot with large side openings where I've previously grown good plants. I complete the transplant in two phases. In this first phase, I soak the small pot with plenty of water, which allows me to easily remove the soil. Once buried in the new substrate, I wait 24 hours before watering because the soaked root ball substrate will expand moisture to the surrounding dry substrate. The second part consists of controlled surface watering, as even though I was happy with the root development of all the plants from last season, I noticed that there weren't as many roots at the top of the substrate as I expected. The truth is that I promoted moisture at the base from the very beginning, which didn't favor the development of adventitious roots on the surface. I'm going to try to correct this since root development at the base is always guaranteed. Once the first watering is done, I will cover the substrate with mulch rescued from previous crops and a special mix to accelerate microbiology development and organic matter decomposition. I will talk about the watering mix and mulch next week. Now all the seedlings of the season are in the main grow tent, surrounded by blue lights (450nm) and a 7700K LED panel to provide other light spectrums. I'm aiming for maximum compactness and branching. I've cleaned and disinfected the grow tent, organized some cables and lamps, and finally closed the tent for a few hours with an ozone generator at maximum power. She's working hard to expand her leaves and roots, and the compacting is really good thanks to the intensity of the blue lights. Any day this week, I'll do an apical cut above the third node. The other two sisters I also germinated from this strain have been taken to the mountains a few days ago... may the strongest survive! A day after transplanting, I completed the second phase of the process by adding a thin layer of a Bio substrate mix with Solid Mountain Microorganisms, Rice Charcoal, pre-cooked living substrate, and algae and alfalfa powder. I finally cover this mix with Reused Mulch from previous crops and moisten everything. In the first few days, I've kept moisture only on the top of the substrate. I've been daily moistening the mulch with mountain water, intending to accelerate the spread of aerobic microbiology and encourage the expansion of adventitious roots in the upper part of the substrate, just below the mulch. Two days ago, I did a more abundant watering to allow moisture to penetrate the substrate. The amount of this initial watering is moderate, half of what I have calculated for when the plant is at maximum yield, because I don't want to saturate the substrate with water right now. It's important for me to take advantage of the aeration of the new substrate, which hasn't been compacted by watering yet. The roots appreciate both oxygen and fluffy substrates, where they can move easily. With this first deep watering, I begin feeding all the seedlings. The girls are growing and asking for more food, and I will happily cook for them with each watering! 😉 I've started with a special mix of molasses with my Bio Fertilizer made from fresh coconut water with Efficient Microorganisms (MM, Minerals, vitamins, cytokinins, gibberellins, auxins....) Natural coconut water contains enough energy in the form of hormones, minerals, antioxidants, or vitamins to germinate a coconut seed and provide what it needs in the first weeks of life. Tomorrow, I’ll switch all the plants of this season to a 12/12h schedule... let the games begin! 😍 Today, this plant is 32cm tall; my goal is to prevent vertical stretching over the next 2-3 weeks and keep it under 60cm in height. To achieve this, I’m keeping the plants flattened with a lot of light intensity, there are no shady spots in this grow tent, 😎 a couple of days ago I added another 3000K COB lamp with a lens due to the saturation of the tent from the density and size of the leaf masses. Until the stretching stops, I’ll keep the same lamps I’ve been using during the vegetative growth; once the growth halts and the plant begins to flower, I’ll make a radical change from all the blue lamps (450nm) to others with predominantly red and orange colors. 😍 The plant has a very high metabolism; the water consumption is enormous, I water every 2-3 days, which is great, but I think I’m going to have to take great care of the root health until the end since being in a small pot (7L) makes it easy to saturate the substrate with nutrients. This gypsy plant, the bastard child of a Purple King, born and conceived in the forbidden garden of my home, has completed the second week since I switched to a 12/12 schedule, and the plant has stretched 10cm... I hope this week it finishes stretching and focuses on flower formation! I'm growing this homemade strain alongside two stepsisters, daughters of the same Purple King: Acapulco Royal and Royal Boss. Water consumption is very high; I water with always varied mixes every 2-3 days, for now with low to moderate EC concentrations. The plant shows a lot of strength and health with sturdy branches ready to fill with flowers. This season I'm cultivating 4 plants in old-school 7L pots and I aim to achieve yields similar to or greater than what I usually get with 11L pots. With these pots, I can grow more varieties in my small grow tent. With the last watering, I added a mix of dry amendments to the substrate. In that same watering, I included molasses to give extra energy to the microorganisms and get them to start eating the extra organic matter. This season I'm limiting the use of molasses in waterings; until now, I used it in every single watering, from the start to the end of the grows. But this season I've only used molasses in the first weeks of cultivation to boost the proliferation of microbiology in the substrate and the expansion of the roots. For the past two weeks, I've stopped adding molasses, only when the plants have had a significant volume. Now, the plant will take care of the sugar supply to give energy to the MM. It's not that I've observed any obvious anomalies from the continued use of molasses, but I don't want to influence the original taste or aromas of the plant. What I clearly observed last season, where I started to reduce molasses especially during flowering, is that all the plants ended up with much more intense and varied aromas than usual. Other factors may have influenced this, like the substrate mix, but I believe that the intensive use of molasses was what ended up influencing and masking the flavor and smell. Tomorrow, to celebrate the full flowering of all the crops, I'm going to organize a party in my garden of joy: The Flower Party!
