09.06. 3-3.5L tapwater total to each plant. PH 7.1 multiple times runoff to get rid of salts and stabilize PH plant 1 runoff: 1. 250ml - PH 5.8 EC: 0.87 2. 250ml - PH 5.8 EC: 1.19 3. 200ml - PH 5.7 EC: 1.24 plant 2 runoff: 1. 300ml - PH 5.8 EC: 0.88 2. 300ml - PH 5.7 EC: 1.23 3. 150ml - PH 5.7 EC: 1.25 plant 3 runoff: 1. 250ml - PH 5.9 EC: 1.14 = watering with PH:7 was not enough; runoff still below PH6; will continue next time *Update* Did mix another litre tapwater (PH 8.1) with 3ml of calmag and fed half of it to each plant 1 and 2. runoff(for both plants roughly the same): 200ml PH: 5.8 EC: 1.64 Magnesium deficiency signs are mostly gone on plant 2, maybe the epsom salt foliar spray did work a bit? upper leaves are still pale Now one older leaf on plant 1 does clearly show signs of magnesium deficiency and I also have 2 more sick leaves Plant 3 still looks good, but maybe first signs of some yellowing on the top. = problem still persists. More and more sure, that it is indeed a nutrient lock due to PH. Hopefully the watering today at least solved a little bit, but I guess the problem will at least persist this week until it is really solved 😥 Its getting warmer outside, very sunny, so humidity did drop to 45-50% and temperature did rise to around 26-27°C xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 10.06. No water today Still no improvement with leaf color Some bud sites below the net removed - the ones on plant 1 already were sticky plant 2 just doesnt stop growing for some reason - 3cm today again 😲 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 11.06. problem got worse, on top of the yellowing, leaf tips became purple and even plant 3 did show beginning of some yellowing. Thats why I did flush the plants yesterday: I did mix 36L of a very light nutrient solution (total EC 0.65, PH: 7.3): 3.4 ml/L Bloom 1.8 ml/L Phosphor Plus 1.1 ml/L Power Zyme 2 drop/9L Super vit 1.3 g/9L Epsom salt Fed all of it to my 3 plants in cycles untill the runoff EC was equal to the input EC. (except plant 3 there EC was still a bit higher, but I was tired and she and her runoff was in much better condition) - This should have cleared any the built up salts and imbalances. PH was 5.9-6 in the end, still not perfect... hopefully this will improve with the next waterings. ------ Still dont really get the epsom salt calculations/chemics, but I found the following values that I will use from now: 1g Epsom salt ≙ 98,6mg Mg Calcium needed: Seedling 60 mg/L Veg 90 mg/L Flower 120 mg/L Magnesium needed: Seedling 20 mg/L Veg 30 mg/L flower 40 mg/L" = my water has 12mg/L magnesium, so according to chatGPT calculation I have to add 0.183 g/L of Epsom salt for veg and 0.284 g/L for flower - but this would change my EC quite a bit, so I'll try to stick to the veg values for now - ALso have to add a bit of calcium, but my main problem is magnesium and thats why calMag is not the right solution for me. Still need a single source of calcium xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 12.06. No water plant 1 does build sugar leaves, buds become sticky and if you touch them, fingers smell REALLY good, but overall smell of the box isnt that great. Probably because of the yellowing. plant 1 still has more sick/dead leaves with brown spots. Did remove all of them because it might be Septoria fungus infection. Shouldnt be a nutrient problem after flush... plant 2 still growing 78cm.. still not a lot of development at the buds... plant 3 bud development is pretty good. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 13.06. No water Did remove some lower bud sites below the net to encourage plant 2 to develop her main buds Removed more leaves with brown spots on plant 1. More and more convinced, that it indeed is Septoria fungus infection. However, no spread to plant 2/3 so far. plant 2/3 continue bud growth - but it is slowly. Looking forward to drying them out, so that I can give them some real nutrients after the flush xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 14.06. No water - plant 2/3 could already have some, but plant 1 is still pretty saturated, so I did decide to wait with all of them xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 15.06. did water early in the morning 9L nutrient solution: - did let chatGPT calculate calmag and epsom salt amount to reach 100mg/L calcium and 35mg/L magnesium based on my water values and biobizz calmag (4.2% Ca / 1.7%Mg) in total I did add the following to the 9L bucket: 8.1ml CalMag 0,66g Epsom salt 13.5ml Hesi bloom 7.2ml Hesi Phosphor plus 9ml Hesi Boost = this did result in 0.84 EC and 6.9 PH fed to the 3 plants (2/3 roughly the same, plant 1 slightly less) runoff around 20%: plant 1: 300ml PH 6.2 EC 0.74 plant 2: 400ml PH 6.1 EC 0.77 plant 3: 400ml PH 6.1 EC 0.91 --------------- In the evening I did remove a bunch of lower budsites on plant 2. growth looks pretty slow, so I thought maybe this would speed up development on the main buds --------------- plant 1 got a lot more brown/black spots on the upper/bud leaves. Removing the older leaves didnt help much, Maybe it is indeed some sort of leaf fungus and it already did spread too much. Anyway, looks like the plant is dying soon - I probably give her 1 maybe 2 weeks max. Just hope she will develop/ripen her buds enbough in the coming days. I think that I will stop feeding her now

Grow Questions

Hi, first grow here. My automatics are at their 16th day above ground. I think I have to top one of my plants to keep her height in check. Where and when should I top her? should I rather only do LST or maybe even wait for now (but they are automatics, so I should be quick?)?

With Autoflowers you want to avoide as much stress to the plant as possible because you are on a set time of growth before its flower. Topping is considered stressful to the plant. However, some people do this and have good success. Personally I always LST my Autoflowers and they turn out amazing. If I were you, I would simply pull down the plant to level out the canopy and keep pulling down the branches as they grow. This will open it up and cause more branches to get better light and in return produce amazing colas all over. You can check out my Banana Purple Punch Diary to see how I LST my plants and then what they grew up to be. I hope this helps.

Looks like my plants are growing towards the wall and not towards the middle where the light should be the best. Why do the plants behave like that and what should I do? Raise the net, rotate some of the plants, then redo the net? Remove the net completely? leave it as it is?

Actually plants tend to be taller when there is lack of light... If in the middle you have the brightest light that's normal that branches remain shorter. Plant in the right corner stretched the most in the grow tent corner area. Wild guess - she receives less light because of the fan. Just measure PPFD in different parts of your grow tent and you'll see. You have to rotate plants. Try alternate position of the fan.

what should I do? history: 21.05. Water with full dose of fertilizer ... 26.05. Soil really dry - Water with half dose of fertilizer 27.05. Plants look super healthy (24°C 55-60%RLF) 28.05. started to droop (27°C 40-45%RLF) 29.05. even worse, (25°C 45%RLF), surface still moist

Make sure to get 10-20% run off each time you irrigate too, this is essential for plant/soil health.

2 of my 3 plants are a bit yellow-ish at the top since about a week. Plant 1 also had a couple of sick leaves at the bottom that I did remove. Those leaves had brown/dark spots, felt dry like paper, had very purple stems and did smell more like hay. More info in my report.

Your plants are showing over feeding and deficiency symptoms. You probably have nutrients lock out due to salt build up. Check your run off EC and pH to confirm, flash the medium, adjust feeding.

Your watering seems good. The plants will handle way much better Dry period then overwatering. That's exactly what Im doing with mine flowers since I was overwatering my first-grow. When the leaves wilt/drops then they are just thirsty and it's time for watering. I do this like that with my grow now because of the fungus gnats (so I want dry period all the time tbh) and plants (now in flowering) sucking the water out of the soil like crazy. I water everyday now, around 0.5L water. Maybe bit more, maybe bit less. The pots are light like feathers every second day, completely dry.

taprootArmycommented7 months ago
@emanresU, I am not sure about that. Sure, I wont kill my plants.. But the day where they were extremely drooping, they had almost no growth and then they did need half a day to fully recover. After that, they did grow 3 cm yesterday. So to me it feels like I lost around 1 day of development drying them out like that. You are true that dry is better than overwatering and I am still scared of that, but on the other hand I want to find that sweetspot where they are just able to develop with full power

yo, lookin good. I have just noticed you are using plastic pots (very similar to mine) and the problem with them is that they hold water/humidity/wetness for weeks... I thought Im watering a little bit every 3-4 days but it turns out it's all wet soil under the first 1-2cm of dried soil. I got Fungus Gnats because of that.
taprootArmy
taprootArmycommented7 months ago
@emanresU, but isnt that the point to keep the water? If it is evaporating, then it is just increasing humidity. Maybe good in veg, but in flower I'd rather have the water in the pots and not in the air. I dont have any problems with my plastic pots no pests and no soil temp or overwatering issues and watering once a week also saves quite a bit of time fabric pots lying around too, probably will try them in the next grow, but my first impression is that I prefer plastic btw. I have nematodes and neem oil lying around too, so I am prepared IF fungus gnats show up, but in fact I think plastic pots are indeed better against fungus gnats, because you can have a dry surface for much longer as the bottom half stays moist longer = less frequent watering

Looks nice, I hope #3 will also be a succes, maybe she's just a lil bit shy and needs more time. Good Luck!
taprootArmy
taprootArmycommented8 months ago
@Elyxion, Thanks, but plant 3 is not only late. She shows a lot of mutations. Leafs are really deformed, the whole plant is not symmetrical and kinda looks sick. It already started at germination with her strange asymmetrical cotyledons. I might give her a few additional days, but probably will remove her out of fear that the weak plant attracts pests that could also affect the two healthy plants.

I am growing the same on balcony! Your looks great :) But I can say that their genetics are not so stabile, some bushes are little bit different from others for me too...
taprootArmy
taprootArmycommented6 months ago
@yun23, thanks. Well, one out of 3 did show mutations at first, but she did turn around and now is my best plant. Did look pretty stable for me - all 3 are complete bangers even though I almost fucked it up in flower and did flush too late..., different phenos are normal as every seed has different gene pool. If you want uniform plants you'll need clones from the same mother

damn, they looks like on crack hah. Nice job man. Don't forget to flush 2-3 weeks before chopping :)
taprootArmy
taprootArmycommented6 months ago
@emanresU, thanks 😘 Last watering plant 1 already only got a runoff of EC: 0.65, so no real flush necessary. Maybe I dont give any more water at all and let her dry out till the weekend - will decide tomorrow. plant 2+3 get the full dose of fertilizer until bud development slows down significantly and then I try to starve them out during one week

@RasendeRollo92, Thanks man! Have to be a bit more patient though. Will be a few days, maybe even a week until I can harvest the first one. Maybe I will move her into the dark drying tent for 42h. Might speed up the ripening process

Your plants are looking nice and healthy. Barely any leaf tip "burn" either, which everyone seems to have at least a little. I think you are watering fine. You keep great track of everything and seems to have everything dialed and are on point. A prolonged dryback could have negative effects but it doesn't look like your plants got at a dangerously dry level that would affect your yield or anything. Sometimes a little stress will produce larger and better quality buds. Have fun growing!
taprootArmy
taprootArmycommented7 months ago
@MindFlowers68, thank you for your kind words. 😘 One thing I did notice yesterday is that the drooping starts a few hours before their night time. The whole day the leaves were flat and stiff and around 3-4h before night time the drooping did start. I'll try reducing the amount of light to 18/6.. maybe 4h of recovering isnt enough for the plants and they just become tired before their night time?

emanresUcommentedweek 57 months ago
Sick LST bruh! I'm curious how your grow is gonna turn out a the end tbh :)
taprootArmy
taprootArmycommented7 months ago
@emanresU, thanks 😘 Canopy could by more flat/even... currently trying to fill the middle without having to remove the net. I already did damage one or two small shoots while weaving plants into the net, so I'd rather not un- and redo the whole thing. I'd be more gentle at first with my LST next time, but be more harsh later on. Plant 1 (lower amount of LST at first) did react MUCH better than plant 2 (as much LST as I could without having to fear a break) Besides that, pretty pleased with my grow so far.
