These plants were already 7 weeks old when I transplanted into the straw bales. The past 2 years I have used soaker hoses but this year I switched to drip rings with a hose timer programmed to run 5 minutes daily. Every year my quality and yield go up and I started the plants early this time. I'll boost the nitrates if needed during veg and around August 7th switch nutrients for flower. Most plants I've grown go into flower about August 21 here.

@SoCol, I dig the holes about 4 inches wide by 6 inches deep and the strings stay on. The biggest advantages I've found with this method are small animals and crawling bugs don't get to them and I can grow sativas here that finish well into November, maybe even up to December. I'm near DC.

very cool! how much soil do you use and how big of a hole do you make in the bale? also do you keep the strings on the bales or do you cut them? just curious i think it’s real cool
