Received some clones from a friend. A little sorry looking but bounced back by end of week one.
Using a semi hot soil, 70/30 soil to Coco. Added worm castings.
Using bio canna range to add when needed.
Had a slight pH issue but sorted with a compost tea and another water. Going to transplant as finally have rest of my set up finished and dialled in ready to go.
End of week, greened back up.
Gave a very light feed of the bio canna range this week.
Used a light feed again of the bio canna range after potting up, trained with LST. A little difficult as they were tall. My fault for begging in the small cups for two weeks...
No major snapping or breaks when doing it.
2 tents, 1 cupboard.
2 lights in the tents are omega infinity 200w
In the 60cm cupboard I have a phlizon light I have really modified to run cool.
Will upload pics of my custom light work soon.
Decided to flip. I don't have much head room and with how I'm setting up space wise it's time to go. They have stretched a little during first week. Looking healthy. Slowly bringing in the bio canna vega. Added a little cal mag dry amendment this week.
The smell at this stage pre flower is of citrus and zkittlez, heavily. My friend has sorted me right out genetics wise. The terps when fruiting should be insane.
Slowly defoliating. I don't wait until day 21 to shock the plant. Just slowly as and when needed.
I trained the cupboard lot twice and the tent lots once. Due to worries about head room. I should have done everything twice but with added headroom in the tents. I'm hoping I'm good.
14 plants in 12 litre/ 3 gallon pots.
Started the week with a feed. Bio vega, bio boost, organic silica additive, bio rhizo, half strength to the schedule. Ease in as the hot soil runs out. Next week same with bloom for the first time. Push up each week. Came right back up after a feed. Still looking healthy.
All fingers crossed. Hoping for no set backs. Praying to the gods for a set back free run.
Did first lollipopping, some more slight defoliation daily. Stretch has slowed a little. Hoping it stops it's proper stretch at the end of this week.
Budlets starting to form proper now.
Stretch now approaching the tops of the canes I put in. Going to be fun later on in flowering.
Feed seems on point.
Used the Photone app for the first time. Not sure of it's accuracy but in each of the spaces at canopy level it's reading 940.
Probably stay at that until last couple of weeks of flowering.
Some curling in the closet lot but seems to be adjusting to the extra light slowly.
Was having a chat last night, my friend does not rate bio canna boost. We have had success with an organic liquid booster from a company called Dr forest.
We are debating switching to using that as the boost rather than the bio canna boost.
It's a risk but it's a risk worth taking and I trust my friend. Do I trust myself to mix nute lines? Not something I have done or normally do. However I agree with my friends the bud grown with the doctor forest organic bloom booster was the best we have had in ages terps wise.
Been told the zkitzo are a full 10 week flower. me and the Mrs are counting down the days already...
Day 10: new growth is lime green, changed since the feed. Had this a few times during transition to flowering. Hoping as feed is upped it doesn't get any lighter and darkens a little. New growth is meant to be lighter but will monitor.
Pretty sure it's not the light being too intense as lower new growth is the same lime green.
Decided to switch light off and take a picture of the one in the closet with flash on. Doesn't look bad. These new full spectrum lights can make leaves seem a different color. If anything the new growth is what it should be and it's a little full of nitrogen, with the bottoms being so dark. This s**t can be deceiving at times.
Well it should have enough N to see it through flowering now. Full shift to bloom now. This grow for the first time I'm trying to listen to the plants and adjust feeding on the fly, rather than go to a set schedule.
Day 9 flowering. Set up humidity controller and dehumidifiers, night humidity was getting up to 75. Ideal for the stretch but not after. Set to 59 to keep it under 60 percent. End of week 2 flower will set to 55, end of week 3 50, then slowly bring it down the last few weeks.
After setting it up and me and the Mrs having a shower at night time, the humidity spiked. Me and the Mrs be taking daytime showers until these are done. Perfection takes sacrifice!
Overkill but day 10 this week I uploaded morning and evening pictures to show change through the day. New growth is lighter and is lightest in the mornings. Hope this helps someone in future.
One added bonus of the shower situation is my tiny humidifiers were not keeping up. A boost in humidity is created with the shower. Day 10 in evening humidity getting low, led to Mrs jumping in shower and raising it 3-5 percent...
Closet grow has no humidity control. Only in the two tents. Be interesting to see if there is a difference in bud quality and terps at the end.
Going to give the last feed of compost tea this week then move into flowering feed fully. Starting to take more than once a week until dry. I want it to use up what it has left in the feed added to the mix. Last chance in my opinion for a tea to be worth doing any good so this will be the last.
Feed feed water after that. Rave repeat.Been feed feed, and now going to be tea.
After saying my last statement. The new growth is slightly, ever so slightly tippy. It's day 14 and the soil used was from a previous full hot soil grow that was amended and treated with worm castings also. Thinking it still has some left in the mix. Gonna be a water next time.
Week 3 on none organic I would push the pk in for a feed. They look like iv pushed the pk in. Will monitor this week and see but my gut tells me to water. Some of the leaves have a Matt blue which tells me also to water.
Start of week 3. Weather outside is raining cats and dogs, Constant. Small dehumidifiers are keeping it to 60 but can't get it lower than that. Climbing higher at night when all sealed up.
Going to get a 20 litre dehumidifier this weekend from Amazon. Hopefully that will help keep the humidity down. These girls look worth the investment and long term think it will pay itself back.
Day 18: large humidifier is keeping the humidity in range. Small humidifiers turned off until the last few weeks I think. Definitely sticking to organic dry amendments until we have it all figured out in future. The liquid feeds will come in handy if a deficiency arises.
All looking good. Defo tippy after the tea but the tea enables the plant to take up phosphorus I think 10 times easier, my thinking is there defo still some heat left in the soil.
Still hedging a water rather than feed when the pots get light.
Smell starting to get a little stronger. Z terps defo be there.
Weather is set to cool after day 17, gives me chance hopefully to run the new dehumidifier without any temp gain.
I want to be able to push really cool temps later on in flower. Never checked the weather as much in my life....
Looking at the pics I'm not sure if it's slight light burn from the pics. I'm gonna go half feed after all I think. Leaf color has changed this week and now less blueish. Going to raise lights in the tents tomorrow and turn down the closet light slightly.
Day 17 had a chat with my friend. We dropped using top feed dry amendments due to lack of nitrogen, however this time we added worm castings. Things look that full of N and well in general we are using dry amendments, added the dry mix feed before watering in with cal mag and the Dr forest organic liquid bloom booster, contains EM1, that is designed to be used with these amendments.
We both want a set back free run on the dry amendments. We had them left from last run. I used a 2-8-4 amendment and in week 5 will add 2-4-8.
Fingers crossed we have no deaths....! Adding the amendments after recieving their last tea doesn't seem a bad idea to us.
Last run we tried not to pH, this run we are sticking to pH 6.3, Every little helps. We need to master the dry amendments before jumping because of a bad run. It now looks like we messed up not the dry amendments. Always learning. Always!
Came right back up, so they were under fed not over. Still learning to read my plants as to what they require.
Light burn at tips is starting to look a little better.
Humidity control now spot on. Watering in-between dry back and being full of water. Last run with the dry amendments I dried fully to dry back. Learnt now that was a mistake.
Had to turn the closet light down to 75 percent, I would love to push it, but one plant showing a little light on the top growth. All others looking good. Has been the tallest since the start, lowered it and the same section is now getting darker. These new LEDs be powerful. I believe strains exist for me to push the full wattage but not this strain.
Tent lights now on hooks not hangers to raise up higher. Stretch has continued day 21 but is looking like it's another inch weeks 4/5.
Going to use the dry amendment cal mag this week as it contains sulphur. My organic bottled cal mag does not. Defo need a mag boost, slight signs of a deficiency on some of the plants. Again some strains like their mag more than others. These seem to love it. Some strains it's every other week, these have been weekly and want more.
A friend of mine says organic weed always tastes like hay. I'm on a mission to show him terp town....
I followed the Dr forest schedule for top dressing. After doing this, on the night of day 21 I read on his website that for my size pot. He recommends half the dose that I have used.
Hoping because they were hungry and I have gone light on the feed up to that point I will be ok. Does have me concerned. May explain some of the tops being lighter in color.
Here is to hoping they like it spicy! I know for next time but it will prob be week 7 they receive a 2-4-8 and that's it. Cal mag every other water. Possibly a boost to see them through to week 7 along the way.
Thought I would show most of the thought process this week. The ramblings of a mad man!
Setback free run may not be this grow...they ain't dead and they ain't crispy, yet!
Having environment spot on this time has helped a lot up to this point.
Day 23 had another watering. Cal mag added.
Smell starting to really come on strong. Thankfully it's looking like the strain can take my over feeding.
Keeping on trucking, starting to stack. Frost has started early. Going to be a very frosty Christmas.
Environment is spot on. Weather has cooled.
Mean Beanz genetics have some serious terps. Would recommend to anyone out there doing a pheno hunt. This strain is really starting to smell of oranges. Still has the z terps but way more orange coming through.
https://www.meanbeanz.co.uk for anyone looking for some fire....
Day 25 lifted pots to check weight and found several worms. Must be from the worm castings. Didn't expect that in this size of pots at all. Was going for hot soil not living soil, not complaining the benefits are meant to be there.
The cal-mag seems to have helped. The plant in the closet that lost colour is slowly taking new colour on and spreading to the middle from bottom and top. Plant next to it is too dark, given same water and feed???
Watered again on day 25, that's a litre every other day.
Smell is amazing. Truly! Musty cookie, sweet, orange z terps. Unique.
The plants that lightened more were the plants that received more feed. Next organic dry amendments run it's less volume of feed and prob every other week rather than every 3-4 weeks. Slight p k lock out. Luckily new growth is darker and they have bounced back. The lighter plants have the biggest yellow tips.
Cal mag is starting to be taken up and leaves getting shinier from bottom to top. Was definitely going too light on the cal mag.
Going for bigger fabric pots next time. Probably a 6 gallon. Day 27 pots due a water but still heavy, sometimes it's every other day, sometimes it's two days in-between. Still not going for dry back but not looking for root rot. Fine balance.
Will most certainly be sticking to organic dry amendments from now on. Things looking like they will work out quite well (touch wood) I know next time will be even better.
Don't give up on a system until you have it locked and know you have taken it to it's full potential. Don't switch systems just because you had a bad run first time doing it.
Day 28 top dressed half a cup of worm castings and watered with cal mag. Lowered tent lights down to the hangers and off the higher hooks. Plants further along into flowering now should be able to take it.
Night of day 28 me and my friend had a stoner session and decided we have added the last dry amendment. When we water there is still a guano type smell.
We have run twice previously with the dry amendments. Once going heavy with the dry feed right through flowering, once cutting off the feed early. We cut off too early and the plants didn't do as well as they should but god damn terps were something else.
The heavy feeding run we could taste guano, all guano, with a hint of ze terps
Our reasoning is we are going for pure terps. We know I overfed and we know there is still feed in there. If they need a feed, I will come in with canna bio Flores. Two weeks flush weeks 9/10
This grow has been like the magic roundabout with decision making and the direction it's heading.
The terps are there, I just want them at their absolute best. I want to add potassium later in flower but I don't want no guano taste anywhere near no smoke this time.
Day 30 flowering, things are going lighter so probably going to come in with a weak feed with the canna bio Flores, 1ml per liter and see how we go.
There are a couple of plants that still look a little dark but they don't have any tips. It's a suck em and see attempt and see how they respond after.
Going two days again in-between waterings. Top of bud structure has very tight calyxes with curled pistols, thought I had some Nana's but upon inspection I think I'm good.
Smell is amazing still. Keeping on trucking....
Later on day 30 took a picture with the lights off and made me think about the feed. The dark plants are still too dark for a feed. Going to split it on day 31 feed, the light plants will get a feed the dark plants straight water. Has too much nitrogen in those dark plants, needs to use some of that up before I feed. Hoping they balance out some what the week after.
After sitting and looking at the lights off pics I think I'm going to leave it longer between giving the feed. Water this week.
Day 33 flower, finally starting to see the closet dark plants start to change shade. Still need it to use some more up before feed. Thinking one more or two more waters then start.
Smell at this stage is insane, inspected more curly pistils through more paranoia and the smell is biscotti, zkittlez and oranges. Keeping closet door ajar with lights on and it's starting to smell the room out.
I am hoping the smell and terps transfer to the taste. True fire genetics. Up to me now to have her finish up nicely. Will be running more of cook's creations with mean beanz going forward. Fire in the house....
Starting to fill out and looks like she will be dense not airy. Always a result. I top dressed day 18 and 3 weeks takes me to day 39, prob be around there with the feed. Npk of the bio Flores has higher potassium so that's what I'm going for last of the run. The Mrs is tempted to top dress the 2-4-8 we have with the dry amendments. Decisions decisions....
After discussing with the Mrs aka 'the boss' due to the guano smell now being none existent. It's a top dress (way less than i used last time) of the 2-4-8. It smells amazing so why change what we have been doing is her mentality. This will be going on early week 7. May feed some of the liquid boost that comes with the dry amendment set during week 6. At a light feeding strength too.
Day 34 had a water and cal mag, the darkest closet plants are now dark green rather than dark blue, going to be a liquid boost feed next now that the darkest plants look like they can take it. Having some leaves on one or two plants lightened at the bottom. Sucking nitrogen out. They were the plants that my heavy hand didn't affect as much (due to me running out of dry feed) Another lesson learnt for the balance next time with the dry amendments and how much and often.
Debating running the same strain again as much as I want more crazy flavours to really lock in the feeding system. Common sense is to run same strain again.
Had to get the front ladies out to water and when out, they don't look bad at all. Hard to appreciate when I ram plants in spaces they are not really designed for. If I don't mess the next few weeks up I think I'm beating what I set out for. I set out for a zip a plant.
Everything faded more overnight into day 35. From the picture the oldest set of fan leaves are yellowing back more from the tips. That tent had the least feed. It looks like a potassium deficiency starting. Rather than mess about with a liquid feed it's time for the 2-4-8 dry amendment. I wanted to add next week ideally but life is often not ideal, they need the potassium so I'm gonna give it em. (Nowhere near as much feed this time. Be 25ml or 5 us tsps added to the top the next watering.
Day 36 plants starting to crave that potassium really bad. The plants that have gone lighter have some really nice purple on the top bud.
Top dressing and another watering tomorrow of the 2-4-8 and that will probably be the last feed. Still no amber or orange pistols apart from where iv touched a few buds doing the nanner check.
Hopefully gives it the potassium it needs and these ladies keep fattening up and frosting up. Nothing crispy yet so hopefully I can get that feed into her and we don't fade out way too soon.
Will be running a strain called after eightz next, again from mean beanz. Made contact with cook@ cooks creations from mean beanz and will be running some of their clones direct. Feel privileged, genetics wise these are fire. Have a way better understanding of dry amendments and organics after this run and with more research done.
These diaries help track what was done and when to refer back to. Less volume of feed and every other week is the way forward. That and bigger pots, slightly less plants.
Day 37,everything fading even more. Went with the top dress after being indecisive. 5 tsps of 2-4-8. Hopefully this sees them through to their end. If not the boost will come in handy. Watered in at pH 6.5. after having them out their space again, still looking good. May have some foxtailing on a couple. Temps have been perfect so that would be my heavy handed feed with the extra phosphorus added the last top dressing. Upon inspecting the ladies pretty sure they are gonna go the full 10 weeks.
Coming up to lights off day 37 and the potassium is visible, the leaves that had gone lighter on the tops already have more color in them. Note for next time as I am already looking at how and what to feed the next lot. The amendment was really fine, as it starts to break down over the next week it will absorb more. Next run I can't be waiting for a deficiency, I want to be well on top of things. Experience brings confidence.
Has this been a set-back free run? Far from it but that's not to say it's ended up a bad run at all. Learning experience with the dry amendments takes some getting used to. You can probably feel the desire to pull out my good old liquid nutrients and go back to what I know. Next time I have way more of an idea of feed schedule.
The more I do research outside of experience with the ladies the more it's building my understanding of how to go about organic dry amendments. Will probably always be tweaking what and when is fed but how well this run is going even with an overfeed, gives me great hope for the future. This is the way!
https://www.drforest.co.uk for anyone looking at the dry amendments I use. If an old git such as myself can get by early doors anyone can. Has a feed schedule. Loads of info on his site also. Price is more than reasonable. His mixes include all the jazzy extras I see YouTubers talk about. Answers emails also. Top chap.
The Dr forest schedule switches to calcium sulphate the week after the last top dress. Calcium carbonate week after then calcium sulphate the week after. Not something I have done before but it's what I'm doing this time. Spotted some early signs of calcium deficiency. So I'm going to start the next watering and see how we go. Smell is unreal.
Day 39 another watering. With 1.5g calcium sulphate per litre of water added. Hopefully that stops the calcium deficiency that's started on a couple. Plants using the potassium so it's gonna need that calcium late on. Cake back up again. Think the dry amendments are starting to break down and be available to the plant.
Day 40. Fade definitely seems to have arrested. Colour still slowly moving back into the faded leaves from the base to the tip. Calcium deficiency hopefully stops also. Buds coming on daily. Smell is even more intense. Weather is awful. The dehumidifier I purchased is just keeping it inside the tents at 53%. Closet is 57%. Can only imagine what it would have been if I wasn't using the big dehumidifier. Pistils starting to turn on all top buds now. 70 days seems a very good estimate.
It has been pea soup outside for a week. Humidity has been off the charts. The tents are coping, the closet with lights off is struggling. The bud is dense and it makes me very nervous.
Think I'm going to go with the Dr forest boost next watering/feed. It contains molasses and I want to try to add a little sweetness. More pistols starting to turn slowly.
Day 45, they had the boost and another calcium sulphate dose. That's the last of the calcium sulphate, I can smell the sulphate ever so slightly coming through, it's made the smell danker. I want some sweetness. It will be calcium carbonate the next 2 waterings. Then it will be purely water after that.
Day 47, everything fattening up, more purple coming in. Fade is further than I wanted on some but the feeding I have given it explains that. Next time I'm confident I can keep on top of it until later on in flowering with the dry amendments.
The stuff that has faded does have the lovely purple colour. Smell is still intense but way more dank. Gassy as they say. Some orange pistils showing even on the greener plants now. I am taking them to 70 days from flip but if I ran them again and it wasn't for Christmas smoke I would probably go past that possibly to 77. It won't be early at 70 days but it won't be perfect ripeness. May surprise me yet. New pistils seemed to have stopped forming now.
The weather and temps have really dropped at night time. Humidity outside has been 95 percent. Keeping it below 60 but the closet does concern me. On opening it's 65. It comes down within minutes of lights on.
Hopefully we have no bud rot as air flow is good but it's a lot of bud in a tight space. I have checked and can find no signs of rot. I set up a usb fan to blow more air over the canopy top during lights off. I accidentally dropped it when installing it and it broke the very tip of a main bud. It has a wound. Luckily it is a mere flesh wound. It knocked the fox tail off it. About the size of a gumball. Ouch. Few days later it seems ok.
Pistils are starting to turn at a faster rate. Going to go full flush from here and make sure the smoke finishes terpy. Calyx are starting to fully form behind the pistils. Fade came in too early but hopefully we don't end with any crispy leaves.
Day 51, Watering...
Day 53, calyx starting to really form. Some leaves removed that had crispy ends. Noted for next time. Have to feed more later on. Smells amazing. Loads of purple. I hazard by the end of day 70 it's going to be a crispy mess on some. Will remove as I go.
Day 56. Really starting to fatten up, smell is way more citrus coming in now. Sweet as can be. Leaves continue to fade. Pulled a load more. Looking at the plants it's not long left now. 9 weeks is what the breeders say, 10 weeks is what my friend says. I'm gonna watch and wait until I feel she's ready.
Day 59 the fade continues, buds starting to really swell and mature. With the fox tailing I don't think all pistils will turn fully fully if I kept her running another 4 weeks. Looking at them I'm hoping I can push it another week. Crisping has continued on the biggest fan leaves. It's why I leave them on, keeps it away from the sugar leaves. That would take the girls to day 66. Which is ideal as I don't have to spend Christmas eve trimming now.
Day 62 had to remove more crust infested fan leaves. Hoping to take these to day 67 now, which is a saturday so the Mrs can help me chop em and hang em. Crispiness is making me nervous but fingers crossed we make it to day 67. 70 with feeding later than I did, would be ideal for her. Day 67 the gingerbread smelling ladies will be more than good enough for me. Buds have continued to fill in. She looks a very decent yielder considering size of pots and my errors. Under right conditions and set I think she could be a huge yielder even with the fox tailing.
The sugar leaves is where I have been doing a rub and smell and my word it smells amazing. The Sulphur smell was there but used canna boost the last few waterings to add some sweetness back and it's worked. Next run will be dry amendments with the canna bio boost right the way through.
Smell is complex now. I will hopefully be running some more mean beanz genetics next time. I will be running the zkitzo again in future.. Amazing genetics. Gingerbread is the smell me and the Mrs keep getting with the combined zkittlez, citrus and what seems like a load of cookies and biscotti. Preying that comes through in the taste. Festive flavours at a festive time of year.
