Light LST between week 3 and week 4. This was the only training with this plant I did. Next time I would top, LST, and defoliate. Bud sites suffered from not getting enough light further into the plant.
First initial signs of flowering are beginning after the stretch. Approximately 6 weeks since germinating the seed. Plant is still staying fairly low and compact.
First real buds and calyxes are starting to develop. White pistils and some coloration on the leaves. Initial trichomes are starting to appear. Plant is very bushy and internal bud sites are not getting as much light as they need to develop fully but anything exposed to direct light is developing nicely. Beginning to run into a nutrient issue likely due to too low PH. I was watering with PH'd water but not watering to runoff which I believe led to exceptionally low PH (under 5.0 in the run off readings). I also lowered the light to within 8 inches and caused some light burn over the next several weeks which the plant never really recovered from.
I did a progressive harvest on this grow to get more light to the lower buds late in flower. This how she looked just before harvesting many of the main stems and tallest colas closet to the light. There is some natural senescence happening on the lower leaves - moderate yellowing likely due to some nitrogen deficiency and natural aging of the plant. Trichomes in areas were starting to amber. Not as many as I was hoping for and seemed to be relatively stable on cloudy vs. amber for a couple weeks without any notable increases in bud weight happening either. Pistils were mostly amber and the new white pistils appearing were on the fox tail sections of the bud. It felt like the right time to begin drying.
This was my first grow in quite awhile and fun plant to reignite the love again. I felt like it was an easy strain to grow and stayed low and compact. I had a 6" inch AC inline fan with carbon filter and this plant was still smelling up the entire lung room and beyond during the last several weeks of flower. Conventional wisdom with autos is to not perform much high stress training on them but if I were to grow this again I would top it and defoliate aggressively to open up the bud sites to light. It still yielded approximately 3 ounces of bud with 2 ounces of trim. I'd qualify that there's probably 1/2 to 1 ounce of solid bud with the remaining being a mid quality. I attribute that to how I grew it and not the strain itself - those bud sites just needed more light. My top cola was decently dense and suffered some mold that I think i could have easily mitigated if not for dying leaves on the top bud, light burn, and insufficient airflow. The other mid colas I wouldn't consider dense, and also not larfy - certainly full of trichomes and sparkling. Strain took longer than I expected. After a week of drying and making a tincture (1 gram to 1 fluid ounce of Everclear dosed at 25 - 50 ml), I can report the strain is definitely mellow and not overpowering - exactly what I was looking for! I definitely can feel a light buzz but no typical racy feelings or anxiety that I typically experience from high THC strains. I feel very functional using it. I'm looking forward to exploring and using it more. The smells and terpenes are still developing during cure but definitely has the sweet, pine, citrusy(?) high notes smells.
I waited about a week from taking down the first part of the harvest to try and give the lower buds some more time to develop. Didn't see a ton of changes through the week so decided to take the plant completely down for drying. Senescence really picked up in this final week which also decided me on harvesting now. You can tell from the yellowing/purpling of the leaves. Also pictured is the harvest weighed, untrimmed from the the buds taken down last week - approximately 3.6 ounces which came down to about 2 ounces after more drying and trimming. I expect once the rest of the harvest is trimmed and weighed there should be about 3 ounces of mids/colas. Had some mold on the one main cola - my fault for not controlling humidity and letting the leaves die and not addressing it.
