Hi, I started a new grow a few weeks ago. This one is Unicorn Whip by Dirty Bird Genetics. I think it was only available as a freebie for a short time. I don’t know what the cross is, but probably Unicorn Poop with something. Edit: found a link and it's Bubba Whip! x Unicorn Poop: https://www.dirtybirdgenetics.com/product/unicorn-whip/

I messed up. I decided to try germinating in coco plugs for the first time in a long time instead of my custom light mix organic soil. Things didn’t go so well and they didn't really grow, so I transplanted them into a light recycled soil mix in 1L pots this week.

I messed up yet again. These plants didn't seem to be doing well at all, mostly because they weren't getting any nutrients in the recycled soil of the 1L starter pots they were placed in a couple of weeks ago. But also because they are completely root bound and I didn't know it. I transplanted them into 2-gallon pots today, with a custom soil consisting of peat, worm castings, and pumice, and loaded with additional amendments for nutrition. Here's hoping these turn around.

They are starting to become more lively and really starting to grow in their new homes. Next week will be the last week of vegetation. This is also the first indoor grow I've done in 3 years without defoliating or training at all. Let's see how long that lasts once the stretch comes.

This will be the last week of vegetation. I've been decreasing the light hours over the last 2 weeks, and we're down to 15 hours mid week. By the end of the week we'll be at 12. I have no idea what to expect here with these genetics. I've never even tried this breeder before. But, they both look fairly homogeneous to me. Time will tell. As usual, I'm using my organic soil recipe with nothing but tap water.

I flipped them to bloom 8 days ago, and top-dressed the soil with some dry amendments on day 7 of bloom, yesterday. Tomorrow I'll defoliate some for the first time in their life, but not much... just some lower growth.

They're coming along. In a couple days we are going to brush some pollen on them to make seeds. Edit: a couple days later and 1 day shy of 3 weeks in bloom, we dusted them with some pollen. We chose Charcuterie from Cannarado Genetics, which is Grape Pie BX X Cheesy D (UK Cheese x Chemdawg).

Well, week 3 of bloom is complete. Now entering the plateau of completion! Another month or so and we'll have seeded bud (on purpose, as I brushed pollen on them 6 days ago -- see last week's update). I must say, this is the first photoperiod I've ever grown in a small pot that actually grew without deficiencies. I guess I have my custom soil recipe game down now. We're growing in a measly 1.7-gallon plastic pot and both plants look healthy. I'll take it! By the way, if anyone wants some seeds from this harvest, just send me a direct message and I'll hook you up! It's Unicorn Whip (Dirty Bird) x Charcuterie (Cannarado).

Yeah, I know. We have some deficiencies which I reckon are due to the very low temperatures in my grow room this week, and thus VPD, that was largely out of my control. The purple color is probably both due to a phosphorus uptake issue as well as the pretty cold temperatures. The other phenotype is just starting to get yellow and red on her larger leaves. I think they look decent though, all things considered.

One of these two plants has a concerning phosphorus uptake issue. I’m not going to baby these plants. There isn’t much else I can do that I haven’t already done, given their small pot size. I’m sure they’ll make it to the end in a decent form regardless. The tall lanky one has a few leaves dying every day, but, today, at the end of week 5 of flower, I found out the pollen I rubbed on both of these 3 weeks ago was actually viable. I didn’t think it was since I didn’t get any receding stigmas or color change, but, I dissected a suspect bract and found a nearly mature seed inside. So the breeding experiment is back in session!

6 weeks of bloom down, 2-3 more to go. I believe the purple colored plant is dead, as a lot of its foliage died in previous weeks and hasn’t done much of anything this week.

I’m chopping these today or tomorrow. The purple one died a few weeks ago, buds still wispy and underdeveloped. The seeds are also small, green, and soft. It just stopped growing after some foliage started to die. It had the same soil and amendments as the other one. This phenotype just didn’t like being grown in such a small pot (2 trade gallons ~= 1.6gal). The second one looks like it could go for another week or so bud-wise, but even the popcorn seeds on the bottom are dark and fully ripe. As I’m not going to smoke it and only harvesting for seed, it is perfect and gives me some more room in one of my flower tents. I’ll post the seed yield in a week or so after they dry. I’m not expecting any mature seeds from the dead one, but any guesses on how many the good one has?

Anyway, both of these plants were grown from seed in 1.6gal pots and dusted with the same pollen, Charcuterie from Cannarado Genetics. I’m actually surprised at how many seeds I got considering the small pot size and the very little pollen I had and applied just once, about 3 weeks into flower. I have a few hundred seeds, more than I need for continuing my experiments. Everything else I gave away to growmies.
