Finally settled in new city. Work has been absolutely crazy since arrival. Good chance there is sufficient time to actually get a grow in, but we'll see. A while back I bought some beans from JOTI planning to play with a little breeding project for the next few years. In the process I received some extra freebie beans for a strain called Candy Water. A cross between Gage Green's Holy water, and Afficionado's Candy Shop. Dropped the beans in a shot glass today for a presoak, will dump into a tissue lined ziplok tomorrow, and into a tray of solos with promix HP Wednesday or Thursday. If everything pans out should get a few ladies to flower, worst case Ontario will end up getting sent on some more BS and plants will die off, which is why I started the bonus seeds instead of the ones I planned to play with. More to follow.
First grow in a while, new environment, new challenges to tackle. Old grow space was indoors, new one is in unheated garage in winter, and new work location is a bit busier than my last, either way, will do my best to get these plants to survive. Wish me luck.

Beans into water
Tuesday 10 Dec 24
Beans in paper towel
Wednesday 11 Dec 24
Tap roots popped out on 12/13 seeds.
Dropped em half inch deep into some old promix hp that didn't want to rehydrate. And tossed the lid on and into mini greenhouse.
Garage temp is only 2.5 celcius.
I fired up the ol' T5HO to find 3/4 bulbs are shot.
I plugged in a heating pad/mat, and a small space heater inside the mini greenhouse. The pad got up to 21c, the temp probe for space heater was only reading 14.5c when I went inside the house, which is up enough from the 2.5c it was reading when plugged in.
It will get me through the night at least, and give me time to move some shit around to clean out the 5x5 and fire up the big heaters and lights tomorrow after work.
I added a bit of ph down, some monkey juice at 4ml/gal, calmag at half strength, and prop-o-gator at 1/4 strength to the water for the soil rehydration. It ended up just over 6.0 ph.
Thursday 12 Dec 24
Checked before work. Garage is 2.5c, greenhouse is 18c, and heat mat is 21.. good enough to sprout I think. Will try to get tent sorted , apparently my dad borrowed my good extension cords while I was out of town.
Night: managed to get tents up and running, both at 21c right now, still need to clean them out, but have the tray in a tent under better lighting (praystar 650) and consistent 21c heat. Will clean tents out tomorrow, going to pick up new vacuum filters for shop vac and some cleaning and organizing stuff. I came home to a dead truck battery after being out of town for a little while so got that and tents sorted after work.
Friday 13 Dec 24
Too much stuff to get done today for Christmas, didn't get a chance to clean tents or garage yet. Tent is sitting at 25c for now, good enough. Got 2 seedlings that broke the surface today.
Saturday 14 Dec 24
Remainder have popped through the soil.
Sunday 15 Dec 24
Seedlings are looking good, tent holding 25c steady. I increased light intensity, and opened vents on dome. Hit them with a little bit more of the weak nutrient water just to keep soil moist. Got garage cleaned out, tomorrow is clearing the tents out, then will crank temperature and lights.
Guess we can call germination complete. 1 week from seeds touching water to having 13/13 above soil.
Monday 16 Dec 24
Week 1 Day 1 veg
Wednesday 18 Dec 24
Hit them with their first feed of Strive nutrients
1 gal water ph'd to 6.9
Added
1/4 tsp part A
1/8 tsp part B
Ended up with 6.8 ph
777ppm (think my base water is around 300ppm, will check next water)
Hit all the cups and will now leave dome lid off.
A few seedlings tipped over in the cups so I staked them up using a bit of wire to give support until they get a bit stronger.
Saturday 21 Dec 24
A few of the cups had dried most of the way out. Gave them a little more nutrient solution that was left over.
They should be dried out by tomorrow, will give them a full strength feeding till runoff then.
Sunday 22 Dec 24
Plants dried out enough to get a full feed to runoff today. Found out 1 of the cups didn't have drainage holes, glad I found that out sooner rather than later.
Half gallon of water ph'd to 7ish
.5 tsp part A
.25 tsp part B
Ended up around 1000ppm (2.0ec) and 6.1ph
Tossing some quick math here for future reference.
15ml part A per 10L (2.64 gal)
7.5ml part B per 10L (2.64 gal)
15ml~3tsp
7.5ml~1.5 tsp
15ml/2.64=5.7ml/gal
1.15 tsp/gal = 15ml/10l
.575 tsp/gal = 7.5ml/10l
Will be topping off soil to help them stand up right tomorrow and get the stupid pieces of wire out of there since it is too short now to do much of anything. Will see how they progress through the week, and start counting pots to see which size they'll be getting dropped into, not sure what size pots I have 13 of that I can stuff into a 5x5. Probably 2 or 3 gallon pots. Likely end up with 5 or so males. Just thinking out loud here. Probably toss into small pots until preflowers show to save the wasted soil, then toss males and transplant females into larger pots and decide what size at that point depending on plants remaining.
23 Dec 24 - Week 2 Day 1 Veg
Topped up the soil in the cups to stabilize the plants and pulled out the small wires that were trying to hold them upright. (Ignore names on cups, reused old cups and didn't bother to label since all same strain)
Finally had time to clear and clean tent, mount exhaust fan and filter, found humidifier and properly assembled the equipment to be able to grow. Have one more large fan I want to mount (big black one to the right of door) but will get that done tomorrow..
24 Dec 24 - Week 2 Day 2 Veg
Cups were nearly dried out, gave a full feed to runoff. Next watering will be ph'd water with calmag.
Merry Christmas 2024 - Week 2 Day 3 Veg
Cups were nearly dried out, not sure if plants are drinking that much daily, or if the heat in the tent is causing soil to dry out. To be safe instead of another feeding I hit them with some ph'd calmag water till runoff.
Plants look happy, will see how they respond to a watering without nutrients and adjust as necessary.
26 Dec 24 - Week 2 Day 4 Veg
Cups still had some moisture, will hit them with a full strength feed tomorrow.
Checked light intensity, according to estimates/conversion rates by migro using my lux meter I'm sitting around 450-500par.
(34970lux) (0.014) = 489.5
(32330lux) (0.014) = 452.6
May back light off a bit tomorrow when I feed.
27 Dec 24 - Week 2 Day 5 Veg
Checked light again, par ranges from 400-500 at canopy leaving it set there
Cups are drying out daily. Getting a full strength feed today, going to see if I can find some more 1 gallon pots here, I found 8, I think I have some more kicking around, otherwise a quick stop by a nursery tomorrow will get that sorted.
Checked water from the tap again today, strive is a bit of a pain in the ass to dissolve so warm water helps out. Tap water ph and ppm is in a pic somewhere above.
1 gallon water 8.2ph 205ppm (.4ec)
1ml ph down
7/8 tsp Part A
1/2 tsp Part B
Ended up at 6.6ph 1260ppm (2.5ec)
Runoff came out around 6.4 ph next feed will be lighter and higher ph will aim for 6.9 and 2.0ec
29 Dec 24 - Week 2 Day 6 Veg
Well, plants look good and ready to transplant. Ordered some 1 gallon panda style bags off Amazon, going to give em a go and see how they do.
Watered the plants with a mix of:
2ml/l calmag
2ml/l prop o gator
And 5ml/gal Cronk monkey
Plants getting around 360 par (26000 lux) at their new height. Will leave it there for a few days to allow recovery from transplanting then drop the light and start pounding them with light and nutrients.
29 Dec 24 - Week 2 Day 7 Veg
Plants appear to have take the transplant well, will be lowering the height of the light tomorrow to start week 3 veg. Time to start pounding them with nutes and light until they show sex.
Plants are still recovering from transplant.
I slightly overwatered the new soil, no biggie, upped tent temperature a bit to help with that.
Went and checked this morning, with the light off the tent was not hitting the cooling temp. That means the exhaust fan was not kicking on all night. I just adjusted the controller to kick on at .3 celcius over now to get fresh air flowing in there, should help dry out the soil.
31 Dec 24 - W3 D2 Veg
Soil still not dried out enough to water yet, will check again before bed.
Lowered light to get ppfd up to 420 (DLI 24)
Will lower again tomorrow once they have been fed.
1 1230 Jan 25 -W3 D2
Fed plants 1200ppm @ 6.5ph didn't go to runoff this feed, ended up giving about 4L to the 13 plants or about 300mL each, trying to balance moisture of the bags. I didn't want to overwater while roots are still pushing down from transplant.
Next feed will probably be in 48 hrs, will give full feed to runoff. Tomorrow will be boring unless they show sex, will probably top tomorrow if plants are looking happy.
1 Jan 25 - W3D3 Veg
Plants look good, going to give them another day before I top them.
2 Jan 25 - W3D4 veg
Minor clawing started to show up today. Hit with cal mag water. Roots are poking out of drain holes, so should be ready to feed to runoff next watering.
3 Jan 2 - W3D5 veg
Plants look happy. Will be looking for signs of sex and probably topping after I get kid to sleep.
Topped them all, none showing signs of sex yet.
Exhaust fan is not kicking on during lights out. Tried tossing a small heater in there on 24/7, but it's not enough heat to get the fan to cycle. Need to figure out something tonight or tomorrow to get that fan cycling or will end up with issues soon.
Dropped tent target temperature to 25, fan and heater cycles for now tent temperature cycles from 24.2c to 25.5c. Will check during lights off.
4 Jan 25 Week 3 Day 6
The plants nearest the heater looked a little banged up, mounted the heater in a new location.
Plugged in dehumidifier for garage as I noticed a bit of ice forming on garage door.
Half the plants were dried out, so gave all a feeding
1200ppm (2.4 ec) at 6.5 ph
Went until all plants had a little bit of runoff. Need to mix more than 5 gallon next water to get a bit more runoff.
Noticed some burnt tips on a few, so cut back a little on part b, but added 2ml/l cal mag to try to prevent any issues with calcium. May have just been from overwatering during transplant, but will see. I feel like a few plants are not gonna be happy getting watered again, but trying to synch up watering so I'm not doing random plants every day, will see how it goes.
5 Jan 25 W3D7 Veg
Plants looking good
Light intensity reduced a little as plants are growing towards light. Keeping them around 400-450 ppfd for now.
6 Jan 25 - W4D1
Plants are growing quickly now. Think I may see the very tiny start of preflowers beginning to form. Could be my old eyes playing tricks, will update when I have anything worth mentioning happen.
7 Jan 25 - W4D2
Plants dried their soil out and and few were beginning to droop of thirst.
Mixed up 6 Gallons of nutrient solution.
6 gal water
3ml ph down
40ml cal mag
2 scoops of strive part a
2 scoops of strive part b
Ended up 6.48ph and 1200ppm (2.4ec)
Took all 6 gal for the 13 plants to get a bit of runoff.
While waiting for the water pump to help dissolve Part A, I took a close look and am pretty sure there are preflowers beginning to form on most of the plants, will need to wait and see. Added pics of a couple of suspected preflowers.
Increased light intensity to around 500 ppfd.
8 Jan 25 - W4D3
No news is good news. Everything continuing to move along.
9 Jan 25 -W4D4
Preflowers are starting to show sex
3 males removed
2 confirmed females
Fed plants 60% strength, will be the last watering in the 1 gallon bags. Will wait until sex is showing on remainder and transplant females into 3 gallons.
10 Jan 25 - W4D5
2 more males, 2 more suspected, 1 too early to tell. Thinking I'm going to end up with 4 or 5 females, but will wait for a bit more development.
11 Jan 25 -W4D6
Was hoping to get 1 more day before needing to water/feed, but they were dried out. Will hopefully be last feeding before plants are all sexed and can be transplanted.
12 Jan 25 - W4D7
Final day of week 4, looking like 5 likely females, but will see early next week.
Looks like plants may be starting to show sex. It seems a bit early but I'm not complaining. Do these look like preflowers to you? When do you usually get preflowers starting to show?
13 Jan 25 - W5D1
Defoliated the suspected males, looking like I will end up with 4-5 females but only time will tell, the suspected males are throwing up preflowers that are inconclusive so far.
Fed/watered all again today. Plants have outgrown their 1 gallon pots, whether or not they are confirmed by next water they will be getting up potted to 3 gal.
14 Jan 25 - W5D2
Tossed one of the plants I suspected as male back in to the tent, preflowers stopped developing a little too early to determine sex so added it back to tent to try to push it a little further.
15 Jan 25 - W5D3
Plants were stalled out in the 1 gallons, transplanted to 3 gallon bags. Roots were beautiful, but basically a solid mass of root ball, explains why they were stalled. Gave a half strength feed of about 3/4 gallon each.
16 Jan 25 -W5D4
They seem to be taking the transplant well. Will see in a day or two who's getting chopper and who's getting cloned, looks like I may only end up with 2 or 3 females, but will know shortly since the transplant seems to have let them start growing again.
17 Jan 25 - W5D5
Plants were thirsty gave them a feeding.
18 Jan 25 - W5D6
No change
19 Jan 25 - W5D7
3 more plants appear to be male, dropping us to 6.
2 are definitely female, 2 look like they are probably female, 2 look like they are likely male. Thinking will end up with 3-4 females. I also found out this week I will be getting sent away for a week or two for work in the near future, so some brain storming to happen in the next few days on new plan for this grow. Likely a lot of cloning in a couple weeks, or transplant into 5 gallons full of organic amendments before I leave so wife can just hit them with water then I can clone them when I get back, not sure what the plan is yet..
20 Jan 25 - W6D1
Preflowers have begun to develop again since transplant. Will be cloning later this week then training the females to make a half decent canopy.
One of the plants looked thirsty, gave it a light feed and watered to runoff.
21 Jan 25 - W6D2
Remainder of plants looked thirsty so gave them a light feed to runoff.
22 Jan 25 - W6D3
One plant looked thirsty, gave it feed to runoff. 700ppm, 6.5ph. Rest were still good to go, gave them a little splash of leftover nutrient solution, trying to get all plants water cycles lined up again since transplant.
23 Jan 25 - W6D4
Plants look happy enough..
24 Jan 25 - W6D5
5/6 plants needed some water. Hit with ph'd cal mag water as I noticed a bit of clawing and tip burn starting.
25 Jan 25 - W6D6
The 1 plant that wasn't dry yesterday was dried out today hit it with cal mag water ph'd to 6.3, still not synched up to other plants. I will water remaining plants lightly tomorrow to try to match dryback cycles to each other.
26 Jan 25 - W6D7
One plant was dried out completely, few others were fairly dry, watered the one pretty heavy, gave rest a light watering hoping that gets them to tomorrow when I can try to water all to finally get watering back in sync.
27 Jan 25 - W7D1
5/6 Were thirsty so hit all 6 plants with 750ppm, 6.1ph till runoff.
29 Jan 25 - W7D3
Opened tent today to find a coating of condensation. Tent was not getting hot enough to cycle the exhaust fan. Shuffled plants around, defoliated a bit, and raised the light enough that I could crank it up to increase temperature. Seems to have done the trick, will know tomorrow morning.
30 Jan 25 - W7D4
2 plants thirsty, fed them half strength with added cal mg. Tent was soaked in condensation again, running the heater constantly now with exhaust fan cycling on when temp gets over 25.8, tent is now cycling from 25.5-26.2c
31 Jan 25 - W7D5
Plants were thirsty, gave them 1050ppm at 6.6ph.
1 Feb 24 - W7D6
Everyone looking happy, tall girls look a little stressed from light, reduced light output to approx 560 par to the top of tallest girl.
2 Feb 25 - W7D7
Let them dry back too much, all good, hit with a
3 Feb 25 - W8D1
Plants seem to have recovered from their dry back. Waiting on work to let me know wtf the plan is. If I'm going away for some shit then flowering will wait, if I'm staying local flowering will probably be started end of week after some training and cloning.
4 Feb 25 - W8D2
Girls were thirsty, fed 15ml part a, 7.5 part b, and 20ml cal mag in 5 gal of water, ended up around 1000 ppm, ph'd to 6.8
6 Feb 25 - W8D4
Plants have synched up watering cycles. 1 gallon each every 2nd day. Today they got hit with cal mag water ph'd to 6.8 Saturday will be a full strength feeding and som training.
Plants are drying out the soil every 36ish hours. Need to transplant into 5 gal pots asap, but need a bale of soil. Gotta transplant and train before flipping to flower.
Plants overgrown, drying out 3 gallon bags daily now. Finally got soil, it was frozen solid, took 2 days in garage to thaw. Realized when I went to transplant my grow bags are in my yard, need to grab them tomorrow, transplant, cloning and training to happen tomorrow, flower will start by Friday.
Transplanted today (Tuesday 18 feb) plants were long overdue, but the weather here was uncooperative. Finally got the 5 gallon pots inside, soil thawed for the most part. (Center of bale was still pretty cold and hard)
After transplant plants looked unhappy, so hit them with some water that had a bit of cal-mag, monkey juice, and prop-o-gator. If they are perked up a bit tomorrow will cut some clones, scrog, and lollipop.
