Germinated 1 seed each of Spliff Strawberry and CBDrelief. I used the paper towel method and after the roots were about 1cm long in moved them directly to the net pots. For better growing environment conditions I put two cups over them.
I intentionally started CBDrelief 1 week later so that I could see whether the system is running stable or not. The Spliff Strawberry started so well and everything was running so nicely that I did not need to adjust much and proceeded to germinate the CDBrelief.
The CBDrelief started one week later. I noticed signs of nutrient burn and calmag deficiency on the Spliff Strawberry.
At this time im changing the reservoir water on a weekly basis. Next time I was going to increase Calmag and reduce the fertilizer.
Because the calmag deficiency and beginning nitrogen intoxication still continued I reduced the nutrients a little and increased Calmag. Up to this point I did not account for the nitrogen that was added through the Calmag.
Root growth from the Spliff Strawberry really kicked in.
Because of the size of the Spliff Strawberry I changed from cup to a tiny greenhouse.
The calmag deficiency seemed to get better. Anyway I increased that another time. This is also because TNC says to use 2ml/l in Hydro. The nitrogen intoxication was still ongoing. I drastically switched the nutrients in the reservoir because previously I forgot to Account for the nitrogen that comes from.the Calmag. I switched to Canna Aqua Flores because it has less nitrogen than the Vega line. New growth looks much better now.
I also topped the Spliff Strawberry above the third node. The CBDrelief is still way behind and seems to grow slower on the leaves and roots.
The Spliff Strawberry is growing insanely well. I'm really happy with the overall development. Also the roots really get massive already.
Unfortunately the CBDrelief is still much behind. I think this plant is not so happy to be grown aeroponically. The tips of the leafes are slightly curled down. I think the plant is under stress but I'm not sure about the cause. Let's see how it will do in the next days.
Today I added silica for the first time and hope it benefits the CBDrelief plant especially. Since yesterday I also noticed that they are starting to produce a slight smell.
This is now the report for the end of week 5. At the end of week 4 I topped both plants, the CBDrelief for the first and the Spliff Strawberry for the second time. I additionally removed some of the lowest leaves. The smell starts to get more noticable every day. The Spliff Strawberry shows some fruity smell when you touch the leaves. I hope this will get stronger.
I'm still having problems to adjust the nutrients. Since the last report I cut them in half but it appears that they still get too much nutrients. The Spliff Strawberry is anyway developing really good. Her roots grow like crazy. The CBDrelief sadly does not perform as good.
I'm slowly reducing the light hours to finally get to 12h of light by tomorrow. Unfortunately the pH level is rising constantly, probably because the plants now really start to feed on the nitrogen. Right now I'm forced to use pH Down on a daily basis. I ordered new fertilizer and hope it will improve the nutrients situation and also slow down pH rising.
First week under 12/12 lighting. The reduction of nitrogen is showing effects. Both plants have less dark green leaves and also the clawing of the CBDrelief is almost completely gone. I'm still going to change to new nutrients the next time I'm changing the reservoir.
The Spliff Strawberry is doing pretty awesome. Look at the roots, the chamber is packed! 😀
I removed lower leaves on both plants. It were like 3 off from the CBDrelief and like 15 from the Spliff Strawberry. I think the CBDrelief will not catch up anymore. It's root structure looks completely different from those of the Spliff Strawberry. I think the CBDrelief is not such a good choice for aeroponic growing or maybe in general not so good for hydroponic.
My reservoir is "loosing" about 2 liters of nutrient solution daily. The plants are getting thirsty. So my current daily routine is to refill that and add pH down because pH is rising rapidly every day. Apparently Canna Aqua is not so great to keep a stable pH at a concentration as low as the one in my reservoir.
Both plants are growing steadily. Especially the roots really made a big jump from the last update. It's really interesting that the roots of the CBDrelief changed their appearance. And yeah... The roots of the Spliff Strawberry completely fill out the root chamber. It really is insane. I guess they are as big as the plant itself.
It's hard to believe that the CBDrelief is just one week behind (germinated one week later). It looks so tiny in comparison. I again removed some leaves from the lower part of the plants but again mostly from the Spliff Strawberry. Also the first pistils appeared on the Spliff strawberry.
This week I changed the nutrients almost completely from Canna Aqua liquid fertilizer to Hakaphos Soft Ultra powdery fertilizer in combination with Canna Mono Cal and Mono Mag. The EC is about double as high now but the ladies seem to like that. Also the pH is much more stable now.
The stretch really kicked in in the last week. You can clearly see them developing the buds. The Spliff strawberry is becoming a nice big bush, touching the walls of the tent in every direction. I had to move the lamp up a little and have roughly 25 cm space left to do it another time. So hopefully the stretch will be over soon.
PPFD is about 900 to 1000 at the moment. I'm very happy with the new nutrients mix and will not go back to the Canna products anymore except for their Cal and Mag supplements.
This week I once again defoliated a little and refilled the res. Otherwise nothing to do. This grow is pretty low maintenance so far. I hope the spray nozzles will not get clogged throughout this grow because I'm seeing salts buildup around the net pots. Maintenance on the spray nozzles would be tough.
This week's update is all about the buds 😄
CBDrelief is ahead of the Spliff Strawberry in terms of bud development. Spliff strawberry grew another 15 cm since the last update whereas the other plant stopped to stretch already. You can see the trichomes appearing on the CBDrelief and none yet on the spliff strawberry.
The smell is hard to describe. I think multivitamin fruit juice comes pretty close. It's obviously currently mostly coming from the CBDrelief.
This week I discovered that the sneaky little CBDrelief grew some roots into the reservoir and removed them. Both plants drink about 3 liters per day. My reservoir size would allow me to leave them unattended for almost a week when they continue to use that amount of water.
The Buds are fattening up day by day and the CBDrelief dominates the smell in the tent. It smells like ripe fruits or something similar. It's hard to tell what the smell of the Spliff is because it is much more subtle. I would describe it as a very light sourish smell. I like both plants very much, but the CBDrelief is a special beauty. I first thought that she doesn't like to be grown aeroponically but I was mistaken on that one. She just needed her time.
I remove leaves here and there if I think they cast too much shadow on lower branches or disturb the air flow. I decided to make fresh frozen bubble hash out of those lady's and therefore I don't mind having lots of popcorn buds. Otherwise there is not much going on, still some weeks to go.
Oh and this time i made another root pic. Damn the plant is heavy, it's hard to lift the lid.
