Planted the seeds directly in the 5 gallon pots on 02/14/2019. The pots were placed on a heat mat and the heat mat thermostat was set at 80F. A small digital oil radiator heater, set to 73F and placed about 2 feet from the pots, is the heat source for the grow room when the lights are off. Temperatures outside are ranging from 35F to 13F.
02/19/2019, of the 9 seeds I planted 9 have sprouted. All sprouted, and popped above the soil within a 48 hour period from the time of the first sprout.
The soil is being watered with plain water, enough to keep it moist, about a quart every other day
Not much to see in the picture department, as they are only tiny little sprouts.
I started giving them nutrients this week. I kept the nitrogen grow formula, at 4 ml/gal, on the low end.
There are two distinct phenotypes in the Sour Livers, that should make it interesting.
My first autoflower grow, I'm excited to see what happens.
I started the leaf tucking on day 19. I will trim some of the excess growth next week. I gradually increased the grow (nitrogen) formula until it was doubled to 8 ml/gal. Also, I added the Hi-Brix (molasses) to the organic tea. I always let that stuff ferment in the reservoir for a few days before I use it, otherwise the taste can end up in the final product.
The smell in the room is noticeable and increasing, but I can't pinpoint which one is the "stinky", I suspect it is the Sour Livers.
I trimmed some of the excess foliage that was creating shade on the lower branches of the canopy. I stretched some of the lateral branches away from the main stalk, and tied them to the sides of the pots. The plants are filling in the empty spaces nicely. The White Chem growth pattern and habit have left almost no need for trimming, tying, or leaf tucking; it is the easiest to manage.
One of the Strawberry Nuggets specimens has not entered into the flowering phase with the rest of the garden. This specimen is only 8 inches tall, but the diameter of both the main stem and the lateral branches is the same as that of the 20" specimen. The lateral branches have also failed to grow in "length", the plant reminds me of a cabbage the way it has grown on top of itself. (Maybe it inherited photoperiod genes and I will be able to clone it?) It seems to be healthy; so, I will apply "patience" and see what happens.
This week was a busy week on the farm. I had a slight problem with some light bleaching because the plants grew fast and I was distracted with tilling my outdoor food garden. It was an amateur move to allow that to happen and I indulged in a great deal of self flagellation. Primarily, the bleaching was noticeable on the Strawberry Nuggets, but I noticed some on the larger White Chem. At this point, I wish I had only planted 8 plants, but I wasn't anticipating a 100% germination rate. So, I planted 9 hoping to get at least 6. I've got both of the phenos Mephisto mentions in the Forum Stomper description. The tall lanky girl is well of 3 ft, approaching 4 ft. I had to tie her down, and then tie her down again. The Forum Stompers are both covered in frost, nice. The Sour Livers are getting really stinky, I can't smell any of the others over them; when I walk into the room.
Until now, I've been mixing my nutrients by the gallon but using the dosage for a liter because some of my research indicated that autos need less nutrient that photos. This week I started giving them nutrient at full strength.
This week was better than last. The light bleaching problem seems to be minor, the discoloration is only on the leaves and is not evident on the flowers. It still sucks though. The weak bulb I was trying to compensate for, blew out on Wed., so the right side of my garden spent part of a day without direct light. The smaller, slower Strawberry Nuggets started flowering. Definately notice that the autoflowers seem much more sensitive to the light, than the photoperiods I'm used to growing. The photoperiods probably would have not had any ill effects from 2 or 3 days of being 6 inches from a 600 watt hps. The Sour Livers is a real stinker. The entire grow house smells like a skunk doused in cheap cologne, in spite of the 10" duct fan, and a filter 3x bigger than is needed for this small grow. The only strain I've ever grown that compares on the smell level is SpaceDawg by subcool. I'm glad I don't have any neighbors.
Ladies looking very nice! Great job. Got a few meph Mystery mix seeds about a week behind you, although yours are growing much fast. Nice work. Would love if one of them popped this strain. Anyways, Keep doing what your doing and best of luck with the rest of your grow.
