Germination and Early Seedling Phase Log
Seed Preparation:
The seeds were soaked in a glass of water for 24 hours, followed by 6 hours in a damp paper towel. Once the seeds began to crack, they were planted 1.5 cm below the soil surface in 12L fabric pots. To prevent nutrient burn, a 5 cm cone of potting soil was placed in the middle of each pot. A PET bottle cut in half was placed on top to maintain high humidity.
Leaf Temperature: 21-23°C
12.2.2025 (Day 2):
The seedlings emerged from the soil two days after planting. They started under 270 PPFD, which was increased to 350 PPFD by day four. A gentle airflow was introduced to keep the seedlings swaying slightly. The PET bottles were removed once the seedlings emerged.
Day 5:
To maintain moisture, the substrate surface is regularly misted, and 200 ml of water is applied in a 5 cm radius around each plant. The substrate was fully watered two days before planting. Water parameters: EC 320, pH ~6.5.
Day 6:
PPFD is regulated by adjusting the LED intensity and keeping a minimum distance of 10 cm between the plants and light source. Starting at 350 PPFD, the intensity is gradually increased to around 410 PPFD in the second seedling week. The PC fans now run 24/7, replacing the previous 20-minute on / 10-minute off cycle.
Day 7:
One plant showed reduced leaf surface, prompting the PPFD to be lowered back to 300. The FC4000-EVO LED light, reviewed positively by Dr. MJ Coco for its even light distribution at 75% power and 11" distance, is now set at 11" height and 20% power, providing 300 PPFD.
Day 15
500 PPFD holding steady, no stress signs
Evening increase to 600 PPFD (40%)
Day 16
Slight light burn at 600 PPFD → back to 500
Added water sponges to boost humidity
Day 18 🌱 Training Begins 🌱
PPFD set to 450 µmol/m²s with the light raised to ~40cm to encourage more stretch. At higher distances, the plants receive a lower Red/Far Red ratio, which mimics shade conditions in nature. Combined with lower PPFD and flatter light angles, this triggers a natural stretch response without stressing the plants.
First round of LST applied to gently open up the canopy. A few hours later, I adjusted the wires to spread the canopy more evenly, aiming to counter the plant's compact structure — possibly influenced by keeping the LED at only 27.5cm distance and a PPFD of 500 µmol/m²s the last days.
Day19
Yesterday's watering until runoff seems well received. This morning, I tightened some LST ties to improve light penetration.
Evening:
plants are bouncing back beautifully.
No signs of stress, with side branches starting to reach upwards.
Day20
Tested 75%/40cm distance - peak at 860 PPFD for the second half of the 10 hour light cycle . Plants seem fine so far.
Meanwhile Leaftemp 28-30°C
Dimmed light back to 55%
Day21
Starting PPFD adjustments to encourage balanced stretch without stress.
Day22
Light set back to 550 µmol @ 40cm to promote gentle stretch after accidental exposure to 100% (~1150 µmol) for 13 hours.
Humidity maintained at 65-68% with VPD between 0.9-1.1 kPa.
Day23
light defoliation
Day24
Light set back once more, now at 510 µmol/m²/s
minor defoliation and lst tweaking
Day25
Light set further back to 470 µmol
Day26
Trying to give the smaller plant 10%less light to encourage more stretch.
Day27
Lst + 550 µmol
Day28
Lst + 700 µmol /27,5cm distance
Lst is fun
Defoliation ~ .. mhh need to look into this topic more
The right plant got some nutrientburn but is bouncing back
Day29 Both Plants showing clear signs of preflower
700µmol/27.5cm led distance
