This will be my third grow; second time growing photoperiods. I had some extra space in my second grow with 2 self-watering bases in the tent, and the canopy after 6 weeks wasn't quite as full as I'd like (2 different strains in the tent). I'm hoping if I cram 4 plants in the tent, I can make a nice, low canopy after 4 or 5 weeks of veg, but we'll see how the plants do.
I germinated the seeds by placing them in a cup of water until they sank, then moved them into the ol' paper towel method. It's been a little over 48h and the seeds just now have roots breaking out of the shells. I don't really think it matters how much root is exposed after germination, and I just want to make sure the seeds are good before planting them. Each seed was planted into a 3 gallon pot with 100% HP ProMix. I didn't add a layer of perlite at the bottom or any nutrients to the soil, but I did add a tablespoon of mycorrhizae powder to the soil, along with some more where each seed was planted.
I used organic nutrients and soil in my second grow, and I felt like I was always having to predict when I'll need nutrients since they take time to break down. I'm going to use the General Hydroponics 3-part Flora nutrients this time, and I'll be following the medium feed schedule on their website https://generalhydroponics.com/resources/flora-series-feedcharts/.
