birdmountain It has to be, I can't go past this legendary strain from Holland. Unfortunately, I don't have a corn field to test whether it is really ready earlier than the maize, but it gets a very sunny, dry place to prove its toughness. Corn is very heavily fertilized, so I assume a lot of fertilizer will do little harm. Only time will tell ... Not a big indica fan, so far I'm sticking with Durban Poison.

birdmountain The young plants were transplanted into larger pots with last year's soil a day earlier. The leaves appear to be very yellowish to me; I hope that clears up soon. However, the tomatoes also have the same color issue, maybe it's because I didn't use seedling soil this time. The old soil from last year was left out in the garden over the winter, so it got washed out and feels excellent like forest soil. Nothing has been fertilized yet. In the greenhouse, it gets quite warm during the day, but the plants are still brought inside at night.

birdmountain The Hollands Hope ladies have survived the repotting very well and have become much stronger. It is still quite cold at night in the polytunnel and it can get over 30°C during the day when the sun is shining. That doesn't seem to bother them much.

birdmountain Holland's Hope grows somewhat stockier and lower than the other ladies, but with a sufficiently thick trunk and without support. They were also topped this week, except for one. The root formation shows that they are doing well and are still enjoying their existence in the small pot. The ‘ice saints’ should now be coming to an end and repotting in large pots is planned for the coming week. Aphids still rarely find their way into the greenhouse and the snails haven't shown up yet either, I hope it stays that way. I wish you a nice and sunny grow week!

birdmountain This week, the plant was moved to its final outdoor location. The 60-litre plant pot was filled with a mixture of soil from last year and garden soil in a ratio of 4:1, as well as cattle fertiliser pellets at a ratio of 100:3 (100 litres of soil to three litres of pellets). Due to the dryness of the last few days, the soil was very light and was watered immediately after potting. There were two more very cold nights with temperatures of 2–3 °C, during which I covered the repotted plants with a bucket at night.
Then, at the weekend, the much-anticipated rain finally arrived and the weather changed to warm and humid.
As the holiday is approaching, drip irrigation will be installed for all the terrace plants. This will eliminate the need for extensive watering in summer, and rainwater or cistern water will be used instead.
I have chosen the plant that will feature in the diary from now on. It tolerated the topping and repotting well, and has continued to grow consistently and evenly.

birdmountain The plant has adapted well to its new environment and has grown. The last week has been very sunny and warm and the night temperatures have also risen noticeably. The drip irrigation has been completed and now needs some fine-tuning. Hollands Hope is growing sturdy with strong branches that don't look as if they will need support later on. The leaves have turned dark green, which means that it is already absorbing nitrogen from the soil. I wish you a good grow week and thank you for your interest!

birdmountain Holland's Hope is growing well and robustly, as expected. A ladybird/ladybug guards it and takes care of any aphids that may appear :).
Even in rain, wind, and adverse weather, Holland's Hope does not slow down in growth. It grows slightly less vigorously, with less strong branches than the Passion Fruit. Drip irrigation works, the hot days can come 😀

birdmountain The classic Holland's Hope variety is easy to grow outdoors. It is robust and grows quickly, developing strong stems. Its growth rate of 19 cm in one week is impressive, especially when topped during the week. Its scent is somewhat strong and woody, which was probably state of the art at the time. It will be interesting to see how it develops further. I used sticks and ties to protect it from snapping branches during a thunderstorm with strong winds. birdmountain Hollands Hope has awakened from its slumber and is blossoming into a beautiful and evenly shaped plant. It amazes me. It had the most growth in length this week. However, while bending branches, I had a mishap and accidentally split the main stem a little. It's not tragic, I treated it immediately, tied it together and also braced the main shoots together, but it shows that it would not have withstood the coming wind. I also defoliated it and cut out unnecessary inner shoots. It also received a layer of mulch to prevent evaporation and promote soil life. Sie ist bisher problemlos in Wachstum und Düngung, hat eine gehörige Portion Dünger diese Woche bekommen. Sie ist ein gleichmäßiger, buschiger Strauch geworden, mit vielen, vielen Trieben. Hollands Hope continues to grow openly, is not yet in bloom, but is preparing to form buds with many short shoots. So far, it has grown and been fertilized without any problems and has received a good dose of fertilizer this week. It has become an even, bushy shrub with many, many shoots. It's not particularly strong yet, but it's starting.
The scent when rubbing the stems surprises me a little; it's old school but quite sweet. I'm curious to see how it develops.
It has grown a little more and now has many short shoots on which the flower buds can develop. Its habit is different from that of Durban Poison or Shaman. It's my first time growing this strain, and it has developed on its own. If the flowers become heavy, they will need to be supported. 🐛🕸️

She has a subtle old-school scent, which can also be a little fruitier depending on the weather and sunshine. She has been heavily defoliated to prevent mold in the plant. birdmountain Hollands Hope has grown a little more, but is becoming increasingly bushy and spreading outwards. The buds are starting to increase in size and volume on the fairly thin shoots. She coped very well with the strong winds, moving like a willow in the wind. Her scent has become a little stronger, but nothing noticeable so far. She is losing many of her inner leaves, which are turning yellow and can be easily removed. Her structure is very airy and open overall, but with many flower shoots. I am curious to see how the buds develop further.

birdmountain Hollands Hope is currently undergoing the most noticeable development. Its buds have visibly increased in size since last week and are developing en masse along the branches. It's spreading out wide. The rainy, windy, and sometimes sunny week has treated it well, and I hope it stays that way.
The buds are starting to turn a reddish-brown, probably a reaction to the dropping temperatures. There’s no noticeable scent from it, and vertical growth has now stopped.

birdmountain Another mould-free week for the Hollands Hope. It is extremely resistant to the damp mornings with high fog and the long hours of continuous rain last week. I have only removed older brown leaves. As we had very strong winds last week, this time from the north-east, it is now braced in both directions, north-east and south-west. Her pistils have mostly turned brown except for a few, the trichomes are still milky light in colour. As she is an Indica, I will leave her standing and enjoy her appearance until the trichomes start to turn brown, overall a very pleasing strain for outdoor growing, the buds could be a little thicker and have more trichomes growing on the sugar leaves, as is the case with modern strains. On the other hand, ‘Zero’ stands out with its fragrance and is easy to grow. Es gab keine Probleme im Anbau Outdoor, im Gegenteil, sie liebt es im Freien zu stehen und den Wind zu spüren. Nässe, Tau, Hitze und starker Wind haben ihr nicht geschadet. Im Freiland im Boden wäre sie noch üppiger geworden. Sie wurde dreimalig getopped und hatte deshalb viele dünne Triebe, die die Blüten trotzdem trugen. Sie wurde geschnitten, erhielt ihren Rohtrim und hing zum Trocknen. Die Buds sind nicht sonderlich groß und schwer, der von ihr ausgehende Duft ist zur Zeit sehr stark aber nicht besonders, Oldschool halt. Wer zum ersten Mal Cannabis anbaut, ist mit ihr gut bedient, darf aber keine Wundermengen erwarten, dafür auch keinen Schimmel und schöne Herbstfarben in den Blättern. Der Rohtrim verlief einfach, da sich die restlichen Blätter gut entfernen ließen.
Der Endtrim war eine Menge Arbeit, vor Allem, da die Buds recht schmal und es sehr viele waren. Von allen angebauten Sorten dieses Jahr hat sie den größten Aufwand bei der Verarbeitung erfordert.
Mit einem Rauchtest habe ich mir Zeit gelassen, denn ich bisher kein großer Fan von Indicas. Sie riecht leicht säuerlich, etwas seifig. Wer den Geruch einmal gespürt hatte, kann in wiedererkennen.
Das High ist angenehm beruhigend, beim Dampfen hatte ich jedoch gegen Ende einen scharfen Geschmack im Hals.
Diese Hollands Hope ist halt Urgestein und das Rad der Zeit hat sich weiter gedreht. Modernere Indica Sorten sind auf einem anderen Level. Ich werde einen Großteil zu BubbleHash verarbeiten.
Update 04.2026: Der seifige Geruch ist wesentlich säuerlich-zitroniger geworden und die Schärfe im Hals ist durch längeres Reifen verschwunden.

birdmountain This week there were two days with ground frost and night temperatures down to -3° C. It coped well and its leaves began to turn a beautiful autumnal colour. As it was completely unprotected and all the pistils were already brown and the trichomes were milky white, I decided to harvest it. During the entire cultivation, it had no noticeable odour and was neither water-hungry nor heat-sensitive. A good variety from the old days.
