xRotator The Z Sisters and DSD x SOH were germinated by dropping them in glasses of water on 4/20/25.
When they started showing tap roots on 4/23/25, I planted them in some small temporary pots (plastic cups with holes poked at the bottom) with some makeshift humidity domes (cut up plastic bottles that I also poked holes in) and put them under a cheap grow light.
I know transplanting autos isn't ideal, but currently the climate in my region is definitely not favorable for small seedlings as the temps and humidity are very very unstable. Also, I assume as long as I transplant my autos at the right time, they should not be too stunted. Therefore, I am starting my seedlings indoors in my closet until they grow resilient enough to withstand the outdoors, and I can move them to the greenhouse for vegging.
xRotator On 4/25/2025, both Amnesia Z and DSD x SOH (Mephisto freebie) sprouted in their early starting pots made out of plastic cups with holes at the bottom for drainage. I used cut up plastic bottles to make humidity domes for the seedlings to grow in higher humidity, as my closet RH was around 50-55% constantly and seedlings need more.
Around day 3, roots were starting to grow out of the holes at the bottoms of the cups, so I kinda rushed myself into transplanting on 4/28, day 4 😓. The weather was sunny, warm and not too humid which was perfect for my little gals, until it wasn't.
On day 7, I had to leave town for four days. The weather forecasts looked really good so I was not very worried about how the plants would do, however as it turns out it rained quite a bit 😟. I could have kept the gals in their indoor pots during the holidays which would've probably been the better choice, but I didn't, and it was too late by the time I had realized my mistake 😔.
(Don't worry, the plants are still alive and perfectly okay 👍, and there will be a week 2 update.)
Something interesting I noticed is that both Amnesia Z seedlings had a purple/red stem 😮. Not sure if this is supposed to mean anything but I assume this early on it can't be anything too important besides phenotypic expression.
xRotator Today concludes Week 2 for me, and for these three autoflower ladies. Let's go over what I did for them this week :
Day 11 is the day I came back home after being out of town for four days. The weather had not been as great as the forecasts had told me it would be, so I was worried my plants might have been stressed. I had a friend come take care of my cat and my plants while I was gone, and told him to water only when the soil seemed dry on the surface and a little under, however this friend is not at all experienced with gardening so I didn't know if he would do a good job or not.
When I came back, I saw Amnesia Z #2 had fallen over, but was still alive, just unable to hold itself up straight. I just used some garden wire to keep the stem upright and let the plant recover, which only took about a day. Asides from that, all plants showed no signs of pest, early deficiencies, or anything. Perfectly healthy 👌.
I watered the plants with about two liters of water for the three of them and fluffed up the soil after to get slightly better aeration for the roots. I have no clue if this does anything but I figured why not, it's stopping the soil from getting all compact after I water which seems like a good thing.
Not much to note here, these plants look more or less like they apparently should at day 14 when compared to examples on subreddits and discord servers. The Do-Si-Delirium x Super Orange Haze freebie really is giving me a good feeling, it's the biggest out of the three and its leaves are so perfect, not twisted or anything like early growth usually is in my (short) experience. The purple color in the stems on the Amnesia Z plants is gone now which is a bit of a shame, I liked the different hue.
Stay tuned for next week, which is when I might or might not start using nutrients, depending on whether the plant looks hungry or not.
xRotator During this week, the plants stretched quite a lot! They had a couple of leaves eaten by slugs here and there, but overall i'm doing a decent job at keeping the slugs away.
These girls were watered only twice this week due to the relatively high humidity outside, each time with around a liter each. On the first watering of the week i added 1mL/L of bio-grow into the water, and on the second one some alg-a-mic to stimulate plant growth and some cal-mag because I have seen on other plants of mine how calcium deficiencies form around when flowering hits.
Overall, Do-Si-Delirium x Super Orange Haze grows more vigorous each passing day and continues to amaze me. This is hands down the most vigorous and healthy plant I have ever grown in my life. Her fan leaves are shaped in a way that I didn't imagine was possible for autoflowers and she is by far outrunning the other two plants. Very, very impressive.
The Amnesia Z girls are fine, they are growing more or less like any other autoflower I have grown so far, but they are not disappointing by any means. It's just hard for me to take my eyes off the mephisto girl and fully appreciate these amnesia z's. Nonetheless, I treat them with equally as much care and respect, and I give all the plants the same treatment.
The greenhouse is doing a pretty great job at keeping pests outside, except snails, which is why I go in the greenhouse about twice a day to check for snails to chuck as far away as I can in order to avoid my precious plants having their leaves eaten. It's kind of working? Some slugs still find a way in overnight even though the greenhouse doesnt have any inside before i go to sleep. Maybe they laid eggs or something, idk. They're not too much of a problem, I just dont like seeing my leaves look less than perfect with all the slug goo all over... ew
I also used some coffee grounds around the plants to try and deter slugs and snails. So far it seems to be working as well, since I put it the snails only ever go for the plant with the least amount of coffee grounds around her, and only once every 3 or 4 days. so...
Anyways, I'll see you next week... perhaps flowers will start to show? more stretch? who knows.... (me)
