Bunkerlinge Baglung Love Rush F1
Today I’d like to introduce the Baglung Love Rush – a project that’s very close to my heart. The name refers to its lineage: a true F1 hybrid from two pure outdoor genetics (Baglung Nepal 2024 × Ultra Early Love F6), carefully selected and derived from one of my keepers.
Baglung Nepal is a colorful, ultra-mold-resistant, mostly sativa outdoor machine with oily resin and an early harvest window starting in mid-September. Ultra Early Love, on the other hand, has earned itself a strong reputation in outdoor breeding over the past years. It is known for reliably shifting into flower around the summer solstice – a trait it passes on dominantly to its hybrids. This is particularly exciting because even less-adapted tropical and subtropical sativas will reliably flower in northern latitudes with this influence.
Credit also goes to @arnold, who has spent years selecting Ultra Early Love for its mostly sativa characteristics and outdoor suitability. That groundwork makes it extremely valuable for sativa × sativa hybrids. While Ultra Early Love tends to take longer to finish and is more prone to mold than Baglung Nepal, its flowering trigger is a decisive advantage.
Breeding is often a process of trial and error – but it also requires trusting your instincts, especially when you already know the lines well. Combined with rigorous selection from large populations, this is where something truly special can emerge.
And that’s exactly what we’re seeing with Baglung Love Rush F1: vigor, strength, resin production – a clear heterosis effect. By July 15th (48.5°N) the plants were already impressively advanced. Close observation reveals short internodes, structured flower sets, and heavy resin coverage. The site itself is dry, almost desert-like, with no additional irrigation – and yet the plants are thriving.
This particular run was deliberately set up as a seed run, exclusively for seed production. The plants were germinated late in the season, transplanted young, and placed very close together. The aim was to grow many smaller individuals to enable strong selection. This explains the main-bud-oriented growth and the lack of side branching (partly encouraged by my own pruning). In hindsight, the spacing may have been a bit too tight – but when started early in spring, these plants can easily reach 4 meters in height.
There are also other exciting projects at this site: for example, two Mextiza × Ultra Early Love S1 seedlings, which went into flower reliably – further proof of how strongly Ultra Early Love passes on its trait. These crosses are currently in progress, and I’m very eager to see how they perform. At the same time, my Baglung Nepal 2024 keeper mother is also in play, and even though she showed some hormonal stress earlier in spring, she still provides valuable material for upcoming crosses.
All in all, I’m convinced: Baglung Love Rush F1 truly lives up to its name – a perfect fusion of two outstanding lines! 😍
