Germination

tDevGrower420 This is my first documented grow. It is also the first time I am trying to germinate directly in the substrate. Was a little impatient with this one around day 4 of still not seeing the sprout and brushed away some coco to reveal she was in fact well on her way up. During the 5th day after planting, the plant was starting to stand up, but it still had its helmet. I told myself if she didn't pop it off by the morning of day 6 I would help her out. So that's what I did this morning. When I opened up my tent the sprout was standing full upright and still had it's helmet on. I did what any other impatient grower would do and popped it off with some tweezers. The membrane from the seed was also still stuck on after, an issue I have run into before. While slightly more challenging to remove I still gently pulled it off with the tweezers. Of course, I have before and after photos of the surgical procedure. Anyways, I would officially call today day 0 since that helmet is now off and the cotyledons are starting to get light. The only thing I, as a perfectionist, would beat myself up on this grow so far is the pH of the water I used to hydrate the coco. Not sure if that entirely matters, but I didn't check the pH before doing it. After planting the seed I checked the tap water pH and it seemed a bit high around 7.5-8. Will be watering and spraying with 5.8 pH going forward. Other than the first couple days of the germination process, (which weren't too far off) I have dialed in my environment to about 79F and 70 rh. The nights have been getting cold so I am risking using a automatic space heater I use in my office during the day. Thanks for checking my grow out, and happy Friday!

tDevGrower420 Week 1 was overall a smooth week with no major issues. Watered on days 2, 4, 7. I think I might have burnt the plant a tiny little bit in the middle of the week. Whether that's from too much light or nutrients, I am not a 100% sure. I don't think it slowed down growth at all, as I have seen steady progress daily. I started this grow with the idea of pushing this plant, so as long as growth doesn't stop I will keeping pushing.

tDevGrower420 I've been comparing my grow to other grows in coco, wondering how other people are getting this explosive growth that my plant seems to be lacking. TIL that you are supposed to keep coco mostly wet and that it is pretty hard to over water it. I have been watering in like I would soil for the past couple weeks. Could be a leading factor. To remedy this, I will make sure the coco doesn't dry out from here forward and water daily most likely. Today, since I haven't water heavy enough to produce runoff previously, I gave the plant a very heavy watering. In the 2 gallon pot, the plant received just about a gallon of nutrient water. I got a lot of runoff, hopefully clearing out any salt build ups from the last couple weeks. The coco is now fully rehydrated, where as before only around the base of the plant was hydrated as I was being careful not to overwater like I would in soil. Anyways this week was really smooth overall, and I am still seeing steady growth. Hopefully with this new boost of water and nutrients my plant will have exploded (in a good way) by the end of next week. Thanks for checking out my grow and happy Friday!

tDevGrower420 So on day 16 I learned after doing what I did previously, watering the coco like one would water soil, you must flush the coco to get rid of the salts that built up when the coco dried out. After day 14 when I discovered I needed to water with runoff while using coco, I didn't have time to check the runoff pH and EC until day 16. I was shocked to see after watering with runoff the past couple days that I was getting about 2900ppm. CRAZY! So I took the plant to my shower and poured 5.8 pH water with only calmag through it. For my 2 gallon pot it took about 8 fills of my watering can that is about .5 gal. Not the most enjoyable process but I got the ppm down to 600. Over the next few days my the EC was reading about 900-1400ppm still so I did some more research and this is normal while the coco releases stored salts. Today on day 21 runoff is down down to about 800ppm 6.7pH from 1400ppm and 7.0pH on day 16. Seems like I did end up receiving a little bit of nutrient burn from all these shenanigans, but overall I'm impressed the plant reacted so little. If anything all of this probably resulted in a slower growth in the first few weeks. Learning a lot of new things here with the coco. Looks like towards the end of the week growth really took off as well. Excited to see what this plant has in store for us in the next couple months. Happy Holidays! P.S. Forgot to mention when I first wrote the post, I started LST this week. Just a few ties bending the plant over to expose lower nodes.

tDevGrower420 This week I finally had the explosion in growth I was waiting for since starting to fix the EC and pH of the coco. Speaking of which the pH is finally down below 6.5 and the EC was about 800ppm last time I read. Did a lot of LST throughout the week. Pretty much every day adjusting ties and adding more. By day 28 I finally decided it was getting too tedious to grab all the new branches popping up so I put in a ScrOG net. My goal for next week is to fill in all of those inner 9 squares and hopefully get branches to reach the outside of all 9. At that point there isn't much more I can do to hold them from growing up. I have seen some pistils forming, so I am assuming the preflower stretch should be starting any day now. This is an indica leaning hybrid, so hopefully she doesn't get too tall. Happy new year everyone!

tDevGrower420 Grows going great! Went on a short work trip this week and had Cat, my girlfriend, taking care of the daily watering. Came back and it looks like we are without a doubt well into flower. I had assumed she might be going through the stretch last week, but now that there are bud sites appearing all over the canopy it takes away the guessing. When I got back from my trip there were a lot of new branches to push under the SCROG that Cat was too nervous to bend, but for the most part the plant seems to have an even canopy. Doing this post a day later than usual cuz I didn't have time yesterday to do anymore than water, but I made some pretty big changes at the end of this week. 1. Adding in Liquid KoolBloom (for big buds) 2. Switching out the HLG 65W V2 for the 100W RSpec (for big buds) With the stronger light and more phosphorus and potassium, I should see some large buds start to grow. Very excited about the harvest coming up in just about a month from now. I'm not sure if I will reach 100g and get the lights worth, but this could be my first time doing so.

Looking good! You will have a hard time beating those flowers when she’s finished, I’m looking into some of the newer Mango Runtz crosses like Augustus Glue and Lord of the Runtz, these girls put out top-shelf dense flowers!
