Blueberry Pie F1 2026

BalconyBoy On 26.04.26, due to the mistake of removing the lid of the mini greenhouse too early, the seedlings experienced two days of unnecessary stress, but they are now developing normally again with the lid on. What a shame. Without this action, they would probably have an extra pair of leaves by now.

BalconyBoy 04.05.26 After the seedlings had just recovered from the removal of the cover of the mini greenhouse, they were already repotted into a mix of equal parts seedling soil and the soil mix in which they will be planted in mid-May. This repotting visibly stressed the seedlings. However, the Blueberry Pie seedlings have quickly recovered and are continuing to develop normally.

BalconyBoy 11.05.26 in the last week before the plants go outside, they are developing well, the first root tips can be seen at the bottom of the pots, the color of the leaves is a rich green, and the first shoots at the internodes are becoming active.

BalconyBoy 18.05.26 The plants have handled the repotting and the move to the balcony very well, despite it still being 5 degrees Celsius at night. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to reach up to 20 degrees this week. The soil in the 40l plant bags has now been used for the third time. Over the past two years, the mix of potting soil from Penny, coconut fiber, perlite, and compost has been enhanced with solid fertilizers from Greenhouse Feeding and Bavarian Krauts. This has worked well, but I had a slight feeling that there could be a bit more nutrients in there. In 2026, the soil has now been completely reworked with the following ingredients per 40l: 500g rock dust 250g italpollina (4-4-4) 400g charcoal dust (crushed charcoal) about 4l compost At the start of flowering, there will be the following topdressing: 105g italpollina (4-4-4) 60g Guano Kalong 15g potassium sulfate The ingredients for this season should last for several years and hopefully deliver good results. BalconyBoy 25.05.26 The sun is blasting this week with constant temperatures over 30 degrees, every plant has now been topped, which is already visibly resulting in a growth spurt of the side branches. Compared to last year, the plants are still noticeably less branched, but at this current pace and weather, that gap should be closed soon. The plants seem more vigorous to me, which I attribute to the soil mix. A layer of clay pellets as evaporation protection on the substrate in each planting bag has already proven itself last year and also makes watering more even. There is also a layer of clay pellets under the pots to avoid waterlogging.

BalconyBoy 01.06.26 Already after a week, I see a clearly changed growth after the topping. The plants have visibly grown with the high temperatures of the last week and look just as vibrant. It was enough to water on Thursday evening and then not again until Monday after the weekend since I wasn't home. The soil mix seems to hold moisture well in combination with the clay pebbles as evaporation protection. I still haven't reinstalled the irrigation system and yet there's little work to do. Let's see when it comes into play.

BalconyBoy 08.06.26 The plants continue to develop well and had more wind last week, but without any damage. Let's keep it going like this!

BalconyBoy 15.06.26 Blueberry Pie Fast is currently the most vigorous genetic variety on the balcony. The plants are growing steadily, have a healthy color, and are strongly branched in their structure. Particularly noteworthy is the level of smell on the fingers after just lightly rubbing the stems. I’m really excited about this and can’t wait for the scent of the flowers later. Seedsman is providing me with top genetics for the home balcony with the F1 fast line!

BalconyBoy On 22.06.26, in tropical temperatures, the Blueberry Pie continues to thrive. This week, I discovered a few aphids (probably) on the tips and immediately sprayed peroxide solution multiple times. So far, it's been successful.

BalconyBoy On 29.06.26, with record temperatures consistently over 30 degrees, the plants are thirstier, currently I'm watering 20 liters for all of them per day. This is rewarded with solid growth. The plants also look healthy and lively. I'm noticing small bite marks on the lower leaves and have proactively sprayed H2O2 solution. I hope that's enough for now and I'll keep an eye on it. The wind for the upcoming heat storms is also expected to stay around 25 km/h.

BalconyBoy 06.07.26 The heat storm was well endured by all the plants, the temperatures have eased a bit but even at 25 degrees, growth is continuing well. The Blueberry remains the most vigorous and largest plant of the season. Water needs have decreased somewhat, and apart from a single adult thrip, I haven't discovered or eliminated any pests. As a precaution, I ordered a few bags of predatory mites and will probably receive and release them by the end of the week. I set up the automatic watering system over the weekend, but I'm still not completely satisfied and am fiddling with the settings. Have a good week and continued success with the harvest, everyone!

BalconyBoy 13.07.26 The air above is slowly getting tight for the Blueberry Pie, it's now 1.50m tall and has 30cm left to the ceiling. At the same time, I can clearly see more pistils at the tips of the shoots indicating the transition to the flowering phase, which might mean the end of vertical growth. In 2025, I applied the flowering fertilizer at the end of July; I think this year I will do it a bit earlier and get to it during the week. I don't see any serious deficiencies yet, but I have already removed 3 large leaves that turned yellow, which is a first for this season. The big plants also received bags with predatory mites against thrips last week, and despite the actually too low humidity, I see neither new feeding spots nor thrips. The automatic watering is currently delivering 3 times for 2 minutes each, which equals 3x2x700ml = 4.2l. 2x2 minutes (2.8l) wasn't enough with these temperatures. BalconyBoy 20.07.26 The temperatures have cooled down a bit, but it's still the best summer weather. Last week, I went ahead and pruned the two main shoots again and removed the shoots of the first two internodes on some branches in the lower third to reduce small stuff during the flowering phase. The feeding marks I see on the Hubbabubba Haze haven't spread there and haven't moved onto the Blueberry either. Even though I've still seen 1-2 thrips, I'm optimistic that the predatory mites are doing their job. The majority of the flowering nutrients were mixed with soil and applied to the substrate. When covering the clay pebbles, I could already see that the plant bags are well-rooted. So the plants should be happy with the new nutrients; the clay pebbles also perform well at high temperatures, keeping the surface of the substrate evenly moist. BalconyBoy 27.07.26 For the first time in my homegrow career, I applied super cropping after watching a few videos on YouTube about it and consulting with Gemini to manage the height growth a bit. I expect vegetative growth at least until mid-August, and that’s a problem because the balcony isn’t getting wider, and the ceiling of the balcony is getting closer to the tips of the shoots every day. Now I’ve gained another 30cm of space upwards; let’s see if it’s enough. I supported some spots after cropping because the bend seemed too rough to me. The plants have handled the cropping well; I can see how the bend points are slowly lignifying, and I’m also observing how, little by little, individual fan leaves are turning yellow in the inner and lower third of the plants. So far, I’ve found it unnecessary to defoliate because the plants have always done that themselves in the past, and I only had to remove the yellow leaves. This year, I rule out that this effect is the result of too few nutrients, as the plants are bursting with energy. I’m curious to see how the cropped branches perform in the end with flowers on them. There are still no pests in sight, but the transition to the flowering phase in the Blueberry isn’t fully underway yet, except that there’s now more growth at the internodes than at the main shoots, and more (but not enough yet) pistils are becoming visible at the shoot tips. BalconyBoy 03.08.26 Even this week in the epic hot summer of 2026, I've super cropped the shoots again to slow down the height growth. There are already enough pistils forming at the shoot tips. I dare to say it's the first week of flowering. Thanks to Seedsman for this genetics! Anything other than early bloomers I would probably have to hard prune. Slowly but surely, I'm facing the problem of large plants in the wind. It will be a challenge to secure these trees for heat storms, especially with the weight of the buds in September. Maybe I should stop improving the soil further, as the limits of the balcony have been reached. Luxury problems are still problems 😄 I have now switched from citric acid to phosphoric acid because I hope to keep the pH value in the water tank stable longer (and avoid biofilm) during my absence, where the reservoir should last three or four days before it needs to be refilled. BalconyBoy 10.08.26 The irrigation via timer is still working well, even with phosphoric acid instead of citric acid the pH value remains somewhat stable, I had hoped it would hold over several days, but unfortunately that is not the case. At least no biofilm is forming anymore. I will still try using an air stone, but I don't expect too much. The 5 days without daily care will all go well with the current system. The plants are now clearly indicating at the shoot tips that we are in the flowering phase.
