birdmountain She has done very well in the first week after germination in a small pot, seems to be doing fine, and is developing new leaves. During the day, she stays in the grow tent, but at night I put her with the two autoflowers in the grow box. Onward we go on the Rainbow Road.

Her new leaves look a bit curled, I hope that settles down. She was just freshly repotted into a larger pot with prepared used soil, from which the grubs were sorted out; there were quite a few. I now understand why last year's Shaman looked so weird; there were grubs on the roots. Next week the "Ice Saints" will be over, then she can finally stay outside permanently. birdmountain I definitely underestimated the effect of the neem oil on the young buds of the plant. Because of that, I lost about a week of growth. The young new leaves were stunted and dried out at the tips. That's why they look roundish in the photos. After being transplanted into their final soil, which consists of recycled soil, perlite, algae meal, and horn meal, I watered them with Cannazym and sugar beet molasses for a quick boost. They accepted it gratefully. The excellent weather over Pentecost helped too, and they are catching up on what they lost due to my mistake.

birdmountain She has become overall more stable in structure due to topping. The two newly formed main shoots have already grown slightly above the canopy. The growth damage is still visible, but the new leaves are increasingly resembling the original shape. They seem quite wide to me. It was a very sunny, hot week, with no rain, during which watering had to be done every day. From the middle of the week, no further fertilization was done, as the plant showed no signs of nutrient deficiency. The Rainbow Road has been walked, and the rainbow might appear after today's rain. birdmountain She has shown remarkable growth this week. Finally, she's getting into a steady mode, I hope it stays that way. 16 cm of growth in a week, I'm excited. Some remnants of my damage are still visible in the older leaves, but the new leaves seem intact. I wonder if the partially variegated older leaves were a result of my too strong Neem treatment or if it's due to the genetics. The Auto Candy Bubatz XL and Auto Sticky Broccoli also had these leaves in their early stages. Anyway, it can keep going like this now. birdmountain A week with a lot of rain, changeable weather, but also some sunshine has come to an end. A week that was very favorable for the slugs. The Rainbow Road took it easy, having arrived in the pot and showing this with a very good growth this week. The Rainbow Road could have, if it had eyes, spotted its namesake "Rainbow" this week after a heavy downpour in the sky. Unfortunately in the wrong position, so no photo with the plant and the rainbow was possible.

birdmountain At last, the long-awaited summer days have arrived, with temperatures reaching 35°C at times, bringing heat during the day and thunderstorms at night or in the early hours of the morning. Consequently, Rainbow Road needs considerably more water. However, liquid fertiliser is applied only once a day; the rest of the water is given as required. Watering the large pots just once a day isn’t enough given the heat and evaporation. The hot, summery weather is set to continue into next week, again with temperatures reaching up to 35°C. It’s not just the plants that need more water now; the grower is drinking and drinking too... Rainbow Road has taken it in her stride so far and is coping very well with the weather. She’s had her second topping this week – she’s already outgrowing it – and has grown 25 cm compared to last week. birdmountain The second heatwave has (hopefully) come to an end. I’m watering with water from a cistern, which I pump into a 200 l. FlexiTank using an electric pump. Normally, no problem, but with the heat of the past week reaching up to 40° C, I had to water three times a day and fill the tank daily because refilling the watering cans took too long due to the lower pressure. Interestingly, the Rainbow Road has shown no signs of water deficiency so far. Its leaf color varies between dark and medium green without signs of underfeeding, maybe even a bit too much. It has also grown another 15 cm during this hot week and impresses me with its large wide finger leaves. The topping from last week has been well tolerated. In one picture, there’s a small nibble damage on one leaf, but that’s about it. Inside, a few leaves are already dying from lack of light and are being removed. Thank you very much for your visit!

The daily liquid fertilization keeps the leaves looking a rich green, and the weekly single fertilization with seaweed hopefully provides her with enough minerals. birdmountain Summer is showing its sunny side, unfortunately also without rain. A lot of water consumption, good growth, multiple daily waterings. The Rainbow Road is catching up very quickly to the slightly older ones. It's not quite as bushy as the others, but it just needed more time. It has the strongest plant smell of all, but it's only noticeable up close. I wish you all a great grow week!

birdmountain The week went very pleasantly for the Rainbow Road. Pleasant temperatures during the day, dropping down to 14°C at night. It has grown well at 13 cm this week, even though I reduced the nitrogen fertilizer with vinasse (I'm running out of fertilizer, just kidding.. 😉). Due to a forecasted thunderstorm that turned out to be not very intense, I tied her up better to prevent any branches from breaking. Since I believe I see some mineral deficiencies on the lower leaves, I sprayed the leaves with seaweed extract and Epsom salt as a quick measure, and at the end of the week, I also watered a bit with Epsom salt. This is my first time doing this, and I hope I didn't overdo it and cause any burns. One tablespoon in 5 liters of water. Next week, the equipment for making compost tea is coming (a small air pump and the appropriate tubing for circulation). This should multiply many, many microbes from my worm compost and actively contribute to plant growth and their health. It's a novelty for me; at least the worm compost will be used meaningfully here. Some humus from the soil of the Benjes hedge will also be added. And it's time for a top layer in the pots with horn meal, cattle manure pellets, worm compost, and some soil. There will be pictures and bubbling videos. birdmountain Hey Jimmy, how's it going? Well, after you stopped giving me that Epsom salt in excess, pretty good. I managed to deal with it, but I don't need to go through that much again. I could use a bit more light; I feel like I'm in the shade too early, but I shouldn't look like a cactus because of it, like Sister Seven Freeze. Question: Do you think you would look different if you had a different spot here in the small area? Jimmy: Of course, my internodes would be shorter, I'd be thirstier, and you'd have to tie me up better. Question: Why aren't you flowering yet and don't have a scent? Jimmy: I would love to, but my genetics have other plans. As for the scent, that's not entirely true. Not everyone can smell like a rotten fruit bowl; I prefer the light, bright herb/pine scent of the old school.

birdmountain So far, there's no sign of the stretching announced by the breeder and whimsical visitors, which was said to be an incredible up to 100%. On the contrary, it has only grown 9 cm this week. I'm fine with it staying that way. Maybe the mentioned stretching applies to plants that haven't been topped and only have a main stem? For fertilization, I've now added calcium, bat guano (phosphorus), and Epsom salt (magnesium). In small amounts to see how they tolerate it. Calcium & Epsom salt were prepared separately in stock solutions, with 10 ml of each given daily per 10 l of water. I can't verify if the compost tea has any effect, but at least it doesn't harm, and all the plants are healthy. That's why I continue making this compost tea. However, it could be that the decomposition of the leaf mulch on the pot surface has been accelerated by this. Wishing you all a great grow week!
