StoneyApple Great weather this week, so they spent some time outdoors and absolutely loved it. Growth was explosive, with more than double the size in just one week. Moved them back into the tent today due to the weather change. Next stop: their final 55L pots as soon as conditions improve. Unfortunately, I ran into some aphid issues this week. Gave the girls a thorough shower to wash off as many of the little invaders as possible, followed by a neem oil treatment. To strengthen the defense line, I also ordered some Chrysoperla carnea (green lacewing larvae) and Amblyseius californicus to help keep the pest population under control.

StoneyApple Today they moved into their final 55L pots. The nutrients in the 6L containers were starting to run low, so they’re looking a little grumpy right now, but they should bounce back in no time. They’re now in my own living soil mix, which should have more than enough nutrients to carry them through the rest of the season. They’re also back outside soaking up the sun. With a few cold nights ahead, I’ll bring them inside to keep them happy. The aphid issue seems to be under control for now. The beneficial insects have settled in well and are already doing a great job protecting their new territory. NOTE: Dry amendments are entered as ml/L for Growdiaries compatibility, but values represent g/L of soil mix.

StoneyApple Spent a few days at Mary Jane Berlin, so this update comes a little later than usual. The plants are doing great and are now closing in on the 1-meter mark. Growth has been vigorous, and they’re looking healthy overall. I’m still undecided about topping them. Personally, I like the classic Christmas tree structure, but at the same time they could end up getting very tall and potentially more vulnerable to strong winds later in the season.

StoneyApple I decided to top the Serious 7 and one of the Fruty Durbans, and they both handled it very well. The untopped Durban has now reached a height of 130 cm. Let’s see how tall she ends up — this one might turn into a real monster, haha 😅

StoneyApple Everything is looking healthy so far. I topped all the side branches on the second Durban again. The untopped Durban has now reached 176 cm, so I think I’ll have to top her as well. On hot days, they are extremely thirsty and take around 6–8 liters of water per day.

StoneyApple The plants are growing well and look healthy. The untopped Fruty Durban is almost 2 meters tall and still growing fast. The Serious 7 has started to flower, with the first pistils showing while both Fruty Durbans are still in the vegetative stage and continuing to grow.

StoneyApple After a werk out of town, I came back to find the girls looking great overall. The only thing I noticed is that some of the older leaves down low have started to yellow. Looks like they’re getting a bit hungry for nitrogen. I gave them a light HMP top dress and will be brewing up a compost tea in the next couple of days, so hopefully that’ll sort it out. It also looks like I’ve got some unwanted visitors again. I still haven’t figured out exactly what’s causing it, but the damage is mostly on the newest growth at the tops. The leaves look like they’ve been blasted with tiny shotgun pellets, leaving lots of little holes. I’ve already ordered a bunch of beneficial insects, so now it’s just a matter of seeing how things develop over the next week. If anyone has seen damage like this before or has an idea what pest it could be, let me know. Any suggestions are welcome!
