kokes I am testing how long would a tap root touch the water if it didn't need to push through Rockwool. I figured dog undercoat is far easier to push through, has neutral Ph, won't rot any time soon, can be removed, is for free, all natural, and my Shepherd gives me infinite supply. It took 24 hours including soaking for the tap root to poke into the fur. I may add clay pebbles later as the plant grows. It is in a net pot with Eheim air stone directly under the fur. Water level can be seen and adjusted easily. Ph 5.8, no nutes yet. Under a lamp but for now covered by cardboard and bubble wrap. So far it looks like plants love dogs too.
48 hours after soaking: The taproot is pushing itself into the dog coat, and thousand little hair grew all around it. It now looks like a hairy caterpillar.
3 days after seed soaking: I re-positioned the fur carefully without ever touching the plant, so that the tap root can grow into the water. The fur is now sloping toward opening in the net pot. The tap root ti is already touching the water, even before the plant shaded its shell. Started bubbling urine with water 1/10 to get my own nitrated veg ferts eventually, balanced to Ph 5.8. No salt in my diet prior to urine gathering, nutrition milk from Jersey cow bio grass fed, 5l a day, nothing else.
Day 1. The shell is off. First time under direct light. Cardboard removed off the top, as well as the bubble wrap. Root buried in a sanitary silicone cut into cubes. No more cute fuzzy root pics. Building a custom DIY 25 cm diameter air stone.
Day 2. no change
Day 3: Tap root 5 cm into water. Removed 1 liter to lower water level below the net pot. Added H3PO4 and Advanced Hydroponics for veg to EC 0.44 and Ph 5.8. Lowered the air stone to the bottom. My own ferts not ready yet. End of week G.

kokes Day 4: 3 roots in water now, main root started branching. Second set of true leaves visible but microscopic. Organic veg ferts are ready, stopped giving off ammonia odor - nitrification complete. No change.
Day 5: No change.
Day 6: No change.
Day 7: Readjusted the air line, which snapped off and it slowed her down before I realized my error. Hopefully I didn't stunt her too much.
Day 8: I exchanged the water because I didn't like the progress. Ditched Advanced Hydroponics, added my own bio fertilizer, balanced Ph to 5.8 and lowered EC to 0.28.
