Kali_flauer Hello, and welcome to my first attempt at breeding cannabis! My goals here are simple:
-Make mistakes and get the ugly shit out of the way.
-Learn.
-Hopefully get a single decent cross out of this experiment.
And that's really it! Part of the reason also has to do with the laws changing here in the good ol' U S of A. Come November, it will be illegal for us to ship and receive seeds across state lines and that includes national imports as well. I have a good size stockpile, but I figure that making my own could be even better and might be fun!
So here we are. The cross is between a Maine based farm who supplied the regular seeds that I will be collecting pollen from. The female plants are mostly Fastbuds strains with a few others tossed into the mix. Most of these are crosses I am looking forward to, but if I'm being completely honest, some are getting used for this experiment purely because I don't value the seeds much and don't have other concrete plans for them. I started the regular seeds about 2 weeks ahead of the feminized ones so that way the males have mature pollen sacs to be harvested before the girls are ready to receive pollen.
The timeline of events so far looks like this:
RP#1 Germinated on 06/11/26.
RP#2-5 Germinated on 06/12/26
RP#6 and #7 did not germinate by themselves via the wet paper towel method. I cracked the seeds carefully with pliers, and #6 finally woke up on 06/15/26. #7 never successfully germinated.
Call it growers intuition, but for some strange reason I feel very certain that #1 will be female and #2 will be male. No clue about the rest. Just something about their growth makes me think they've already decided!
The ladies in this session had much more consistent germination, but I may have fucked up already 😬.
Gorilla Z, Strawberry Gorilla, Pound Cake, and Banana Daddy all germinated on 06/25/26, then Gelato and Turtle Taffy soon followed suit on 06/26/26.
The problem: somehow, overnight my germination towels dried out, leaving Banana Daddy and Gelato with no moisture for some period of time. I'm not sure how this happened, because the exact same setup kept Turtle Taffy completely damp the whole day of work (~10 hours, compared to overnight which was only 7 hours).
But who knows, my concerns could be for nothing, the babies might just pull through 💪. Stick around to find out, and see the results of this fun little project!

Kali_flauer 06/29/26 - Today is what I am deciding is day 1 of veg! It's a little tricky having offset plants in the same diary, but oh well. Just know that the normal plants (hopefully a group of hunky fellas 😏) are 2 weeks ahead of the rest.
Either way, all 6 lovely ladies have shown themselves to the world! I was quite certain I had killed off Gelato and Banana Daddy by accident by allowing the medium to dry out overnight, but it appears they are ok after all 🌱
They each appeared in the following order:
06/27/26 - Pound Cake then Gorilla Z
06/28/26 - Strawberry Gorilla then Banana Daddy
06/29/26 - Gelato then Turtle Taffy
I'm waiting to the end of this week to start putting plants outside. It has been unusually cold for a while (sorry to everyone burning alive in Europe) and now I have to keep waiting for sunnier days before I can move anyone. It's killing me because the soil is definitely supplying thrips to the grow room, but for now it is what it is.

Kali_flauer 07/05/26 - start of week 2 for the fems.
The regular plants have all been put outside. Today was the first sunny day in quite a while, hopefully the weather holds steady the way it has been. This is perfect cannabis growing weather 🌱.
I added some kelp meal as a topdressing to help them build up resistance to heat. This should also be the week where sex characteristics start showing! Can't wait to see how it all turns out.
I'll update as I learn the sex of each plant. My goal is to narrow them down to 1 or 2 healthy males as pollen donors, keep the best female outside to create subsequent generations of Raspberry Parfait for free, then toss any other females into my indoor grow to not get any pollen and see how the flower turns out.

07/07/26 - update for #2 and #4!
We have confirmed sexes with #2 being male and #4 female. That alone is excellent news for me, because both are in great health and we have at least one good pollen donor 💪. It's strange that #1 still isn't showing traits, but I think I've read that the ladies show their traits later on average. Hopefully that means at least one other healthy female.
07/11/26 - getting this out a day late because I found out last night, but all 6 of my regs have selected their sex for this grow! It was strange, but #1 and #6 were identified last and at the same time even though #1 germinated well before #6. Either way, their full identities are as follows:
#1 - Male
#2 - Male
#3 - Female
#4 - Female
#5 - Male
#6 - Female
This is excellent news for me! I was shocked by the perfect 50/50 split, but I guess you just get lucky sometimes 🤷♂️. With this outcome, I now know that I will reduce my outdoor plants to 1-2 males (I'm considering keeping a second as backup in case there is some sort of disaster with my primary choice) and the 2 healthiest females. 1 female will go inside with my other plants and will not be pollinated. The 1-2 unlucky males will be mulched and turned back into fertilizer.

Kali_flauer 07/12/26 - week 3 for the fems.
Today was both a marvelous and sad day. All of our ladies and fellas seem to be doing great and are on schedule. However, because we ended up with 3 male plants, one at the minimum was going to get culled, and today that was the fate for #5. #5 was the only seedling with problems (aside from #6 who needed the assistance of pliers to break her shell) and is the obvious choice for early removal. You served well #5, may you do even better next time around.
The remaining regs are as follows:
#1 - Male, late blooming
#2 - Male, early blooming
#3 - Female
#4 - Female
#6 - Female, had issue breaking shell
Among the fems, Gorilla Z seems to be doing the best in a 1 gal pot. She is almost an entire node ahead of the rest!
I don't have a clear way of deciding which male plant I want to use as a pollen donor. Between the 2, I would think the late blooming #1 is better because it gives the plant more time in veg? But at the same time, I know an entire element to Autos is how quickly they go from seed to harvest. That seems to give #2 an edge. In a perfect world, I would like to try both and compare results. I don't think that's a great idea for this grow because it's all outdoor. Even though I plan to pollinate the fems using plastic bags, I think there will be too much cross contamination. I should have at least a few more weeks until sacs start bursting, so hopefully something will help me make that decision.

Kali_flauer 07/19/26 - week 4.
Today is officially the start of flowering for all the ladies. My male plants are bursting with pollen while my offset fems are starting to preflower. I have decided that rather than having distinct lineages between the male plants, it's going to be too difficult to keep cross contamination from happening outdoors. I will just accept the genetic variation for now, but it also looks like #2 is timed better to pair with his sisters while #1 will line up more with the feminized plants.
#3 was moved inside a few days ago (before pollen sacs started bursting) because she isn't doing so well. I flushed her with RO water with added bacteria to hopefully nurture her back to health. She will not bear any seeds since she had issues, but I plan on keeping her indoors and smoking whatever she may produce 🙏.
