@JedPlanters Get yourself some diatomaceous earth Mate
It sucks insects and bugs dry on contact and adds natural silica to the soil as a bonus 😀
Simply sprinkle some DE on the soil surrounding the plant then Make a spray mix up consisting of 1 tspoon of DE
per 500mls of water. Spray liberally during veg but avoid spraying the buds if your in flower
This is In my opinion the most natural and cost effective deterrent there is
Three weeks from seed. Been seeing one grasshopper per day start munching on my plans in the mid-afternoons, which I usually immediately get rid of. Have to constantly monitor and check in. They seem to eat slow, so I'm hoping the plant grows faster than the one grasshopper per day will eat. Been adding a little CaliMagic to my water after observing a little canoeing on the leaves.
This plant really shot up! Still fending off grasshoppers, however. A leaf started curling up and later had a brown spot on it, so I cut that leaf off. I think it's about to flower soon! Every couple days I'll add some CaliMagic.
This plant is a couple days from being a full five weeks, but it looks to be starting to flower, so I'm cheating a little bit. Been watering every day with settled hose water, and the last few days I've been adding a little Calimagic to prevent any further leaf curling. Seems to have helped. No pests lately, but I'm still lookin' out.
8.2 I mixed 3ml of Dr. Earth's bud and bloom in 500ml of water and applied 250 of that to this plant, and 250 of it to my other plant. We'll see!
Continued to give just water this week. Didn't see a need to add any other nutrients, beyond the little CaliMagic. Don't seem to see any pests lately, thankfully. Keeping my eye out. Upgraded my grow cage to be taller and wider, and added some plastic sheeting to diffuse the sunlight.
8.9 - Spotted a grasshopper this morning. First I've seen in a week or so. I got him.
Does this plant looks like it needs some nitrogen? Got a comment somewhere else about it, read about lime colored leaves, and figured that it might. What do you guys think?
Hey Jed. Yes that plant needs sone nitrogen. You can tell by the light colored leaves it is not getting enough food. She needs some grow food. I would also recommend moving it to a larger pot so she can grow to her potential. Hope this helps.
Continued to mostly water with just settled hose water... seems to be okay. After learning of a nitrogen deficiency, I started feeding some GH Flora Micro, and then more of Dr. Earth's Bud & Bloom.
Can't wait for this. Trimmed off some leaves that were yellowing near the bottom... one may have had septoria but none others have shown that. For better or worse, I took off a few fan leaves. Someone alerted me that I might be overwatering, so this week I'm going to experiment with watering more deeply and then taking a few days off, or as long as the dirt tells me.
The grow continues! Top cola starting to generate some interesting colors. The colors on the leaves, I am a little worried about. @Fast_Buds, any thoughts? Been trying to give more nutrients to get rid of the pale, but it doesn't seem to be happening, so I'll just keep giving them a bit and charging ahead.
The grow continues, but I'm starting to wonder if it's being stalled out a little bit. Things seem to have slowed down... or maybe that's part of the process for this strain! I'm not sure. I'll continue watering and giving some bloom nutes. Hopefully harvesting... soon?
Still chugging. Still watering. It sort of looks like this plant has really slowed down. I see the nute burn on the leaves... I guess the little I've added has become too much. Leaves have been yellow for a while. Hope I can shop soon.
@Fast_Buds, I'm using Dr. Earth's Pot of Gold soil. Up this point I've only given the plant filtered water, or 12+ hour settled hose water – both with the occasional shot of CaliMagic when I saw leaves curling a bit (seemed to help). Now that my plant seems to be in the flowering phase, should I just continue what I'm doing until any issue may arise, or should I start adding any kind of bloom nutrients? I'm thinking about doing a Dr. Earth Bud and Bloom tea. Any tips either way? Thanks!
@DILLIGAF, Dang. I sprinkled some DE around, then sprayed the leaves after the plants were in the shade. Leaves dried and have the white reside, but I saw another grasshopper munching on some leaves. Both plants have some damage. I suppose DE takes a bit to work? It's gotta rub on the insects?
Wonder why my leaves are spiking up like they are. Anyone have a thought? @Fast_Buds?
Hoping the green returns after some nutrients to boost the nitrogen.
Gave this and my other plant 250 mL of water with .25 ML of GH Flora Micro to give them some nitrogen two days ago, then again this morning. Will probably give regular water tomorrow, followed by another dose the next day. Hoping that will give it some nitrogen and get some green back.
Also! Trimmed a few fan leaves that were blocking buds... for better or worse.
Thanks for the tip! Just bought some food grade DE. Sprayed around the plants for now, and will spray the leaves this evening. Haven't seen any further grasshopper damage since I chased the one away.
