I decided to start my clones earlier as last time they took almost 30 days and had only 40% success. They didn’t have strong root systems either. This time I had 100% in 10-14 days with a method I saw online and decided to try. They had super fuzzy roots and I was so pumped to have them this quick. I took 15 clones total: 4- Crop King Seeds Durban Poison 6- Crop King Seeds CBDutch Treat 4- Peak Seeds Northern Skunk 1- Sonoma Seeds Cali Kush 20:1 CBD The 9 in the black cups were the best of the 15 and were planted 6 days (I was out of town) before the red solos, which had great roots showing when they were planted. Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱

Week 1 of veg: have the rooted clones in fox farm ocean forest off to the side of the tent under a 600w Vivosun LED. I have my inkbird temp controller set to max 82 and min 72. Humidity is around 55-60%. They were already starting to grow up, so i micro topped. I’d like to have 6 ish tops per plant and 9-12 plants. Keep them shorter, lots of stacking and make some big buds in 3 gal fabric pots. They have only been watered on day 1 and will get one tomorrow before I head out of town for a couple days. I’m really pleased with this cloning strategy. I have a ton to choose from and they seem to be happy. Only downfall is that I’m ready to go ahead of schedule. I got a full line from a local nutrient company for free so i figured I’d give it a try. I’ll start using it once I transplant to soilless in the 3 gal pots. Happy Growing 🌱

I was away all last week, so they just did their thing all week. Possibly too much light from that 600w LED, growth is squat and bushy with tight internodal spaces. I’ve moved them back to the corner out of direct light. So far all are growing well and using water at the same rate. I watered with the additives as there’s nutrients in the fox farm soil. I have to pick which ones are the best and transplant them to the larger pots and get them flowering in the next couple weeks. Thanks for checking in. 🌱

Day 15: Did the first feeding these plants have gotten. They’ve been feeding off the nutes in the fox farm soil. Fed with 1/4 strength week one nutes. Turned out to be 333 ppm at 6.1 ph. Transplanted yesterday (day 14) into 2 gal pots with sunshine #4 with 1 tbsp Lyme and 1 tbsp mychrorrhize per pot. They were not stunted at all by it. Thinking I’ll veg one more week to get them established then start flowering so I don’t run out of room. Thanks for checking in, Happy Growing 🌱

Day 21 Veg: I did a bunch of defoliation in prep for flower. I plan on 4-6 tops per plant and have done some lst and tied down some taller branches. I’m thinking about doing the first 2 weeks of flower with the 600W Vivosun led then jumping over to the 1000w hps. I’m torn at the moment. Idk if 277 true watts is enough for 12 plants in a 4x4 tent, I’ve never used the LED for flower. Anybody done this before?? I upped the temp a couple degrees and added a TNP CO2 bottle a couple days ago and overnight noticed a deeper green color and happier looking plants. Thinking some time this week I’ll make the flip, I’m so undecided as I’ve never done a sog before. They look so small but I know they’ll fill out and dont want them packed in like sardines. Is that the right choice?? I did the first full strength feed of week 2 veg nutes. 1000ppm, 600 mls each we’ll see if that was too high ppm and adjust Accordingly. Thanks for checking in. Day 1-7 flower: I decided to flower before these girls got too big and crowded. Did a defoliation of the upper leaves blocking light to let those branches shoot up. Light is at about 40” as the plant directly under seems to get a tad bleached at the 24-30” mark. CO2 is keeping them nice and green. Fed today with week 1 nutrients plus cal mag, minus the macros G,M and B as last week 1000 ppm was too much and got some tip burn. It’s also taking about 5 days to dry out, so lower ppms til they’re drinking faster. Testing out a product called red sun, it’s supposed to cause the flower flip to happen more quickly. Really should have used it last week, but kinda f’d that up and didn’t plan accordingly. There are some preflowers starting to show, we’ll see if that helps them pop out more quickly. Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱

Day 8-14: I mixed up a Foliar spray of silicate, cal mag, and the b vitamins, seaweed products from the feed chart, approx 1 ml each in a 500 ml spray bottle. They loved it, I’ve sprayed twice this week. Watered with week 2 nutrients in 2/3 concentration, about 600 mls/ plants. 1 L was taking almost 6 days to dry out. I think the humidity is too high for them to transpire and use up that moisture in the medium. I increased my extraction fan from 15 on 30 off to 15 on 15 off and may have to go up to full on due to smell. Added in the hps light at 500 w with the 600 w vivosun LED (277w) with the temp controller set to 82 degrees on 70 degrees off. Plants are coming along nicely, have not been stressed by any light defoliation I’ve done exposing bud sites and getting light in the middle of the plant. Good stretch happening right now, hoping for another 6-8 inches of stretch. I have some tomato cages depending on how much there is. Thanks, Happy Growing🌱

Day 21: I decided to do a heavy defoliation this time and see what happens. Trying to get more stacked colas. I’m following a tutorial from growweedeasy.com for reference and we’ll see how it goes. I’m pretty sure I removed too many growth shoots from the lower part of the plants weeks ago. Oh well. I’ve been foliar spraying with silicate, sea storm, b plus and cal mag just a couple drops/500ml bottle and watered day 21 with 1/2 L of week 3 supplements at 335 ppm 6.1 ph as I’m sure they’re stressed and once they bounce back they’ll get a nutrient feed. I turned the hps up to 750w along with the 600w led (277 true watts) as I have my intake and exhaust fans on 24/7 to control humidity was getting into the 80% range. Temps and humidity are fairly steady now at 50% and temps are 79-D 68-70-N. Going to have to keep an eye on it now that the leaf matter is gone. Buds are coming along nicely, interesting to see the side by side difference between hps and led. Hps pistils are longer and slightly bigger and led are more compact and curled pistils, but more dense. Thanks for checking in, Happy Growing 🌱

Day 28: I had good growth week, even though I did an aggressive defoliation. They were obviously stressed by it, but even by the end of the next day I could see a difference in their growth. Did a watering with supplements only last Saturday, and a full strength week 4 feeding on Wednesday. Buds have been growing nicely, and the tallest tops are nice and even and lower ones light isnt being badly blocked. I’m still trying to lightly bend any clustered branches apart and thinking about a trellis net as a last resort if they get too heavy. I have tomato cage for next time. Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱

Day 35: They haven’t needed much this week. I’m just letting them do their thing. Watered with plain water mid week after last Saturday’s feeding and all are dry except one . Id like it if they get to needing water twice a week. Watered with cal mag, the bud fusion, sea storm, hygrozyme, carbs and black storm. Ph 6.1, approx 550 ppm. Thoroughly watered with excessive runoff as there is a bit of salt buildup. I’m thinking they look pretty good and happy with where they are now. Trichomes are packing on thick already and in natural light they are shiny!! Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱

Day 42: Watered with week 6 nutrients, and recalibrated my ph pen as I’m seeing some yellowing and some purple in the stems. Buds are getting more dense, but don’t know how to take them to the next level to get hard dense buds. Some are looking better than others. Northern skunk is 💩 it, thinking about removing them. Cali kush is more dense, but low yield. Thankfully the Durban and Dutch are doing well if they can pack it on. It was suggested if heat could be controlled to go to 1000w hps rather than led-600 hps-75% combo as dimmed ballast wouldn’t have as good spectrum and help with density....idk. I bought a new bulb and will be deciding right quick. Otherwise doing ok growth, some pistils darkening, smelling good. Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱

Day 49: I’m thinking I’ve done something wrong again, or this pheno is the greatest. The Dutch Treat is looking pretty good. The Durban is pretty dense, but not swelling up. Even the Northern Skunk I’ve grown before and had solid buds is small. I changed the bulb and upped it to 1000w. Smells are awesome and trichomes are stacking up. Starting to yellow out some, thinking I’ll do one, maybe 2 feedings, then water only to the end. I’m hoping they will chunk up some more over the next 2-3 weeks. Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱

Does anybody have any tips to get these girls to chunk up? I’ve changed the bulb, recalibrated my ph pen, using a bud booster and still have some yellowing and color change in the fans already along with tip burn. I’d appreciate some advice. Thanks

Keep in mind that the fattening of the buds happen at the very end of the flower stage, if memory serves me well, in the final week its where the buds gain half of their final weight. You are the end of the 7 week of flower; next week will see a dramatic increase of size of the buds. for future reference, somemore training to keep a flat canopy will help a lot in bud size and yield.

Day 56: I did the last feeding I’m going to give these plants today, they will get one flush with the cleanse, then only get water til harvest. I ordered a second 600w led as I’m thinking the 1000 is too much for the height of my tent. Everything always seems cooked, so I’ll try leds and compare results. I did a bit of an experiment and moved a plant that was lush and green under the led side and it yellowed out in days under the hps and don’t get a ton of stretch in transition to flower. Thankfully the buds hardened up really nicely compared to my previous. At this point just watching trichomes and watering when required. Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱

Day 63: I watered yesterday with the cleanse product from the nutrient line. Watered til I got substantial runoff. Some of the Dutch Treat look like they’re foxtailing, but idk if that is just the way they grow either way, I’m not worried about it. All the leaves have faded and yellowed and some turning purple now and some are popping new white pistils. The buds aren’t huge, but they are by far the densest buds I’ve grown to date. From now on just water for another week or 2 til the trichomes are where I like. They seem mostly cloudy but going to wait for some amber. I bought another 600w LED for the next run as I think The 1000w hps is too much for whatever reason. I have to try something else and it can be used somewhere else if I don’t like the results as a flower light. For my next run I have a big Dutch Treat and a big Durban Poison to run in 5 gallon pots. A couple weeks ago I cut back the roots mass and repoted in 5 gal pots. Doing some supercropping and tying down to open it up. I’ll be starting a diary of that right away. Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱

Day 70: Just water this week. I’m confused as to what the Dutch Treat is doing, looks like foxtailing but I’m not sure. Buds seem to be getting more firm, but the Dutch is pushing out a ton of new white pistils. I’m kinda disappointed with the yield. I expected longer colas with fatter lower buds, some areas are pretty sparse. Trichomes are coming along, they seem cloudy for the most part. Thinking I’ll harvest once they are dry again if the trichomes are scattered with Amber. They have yellowed substantially over the last few days. I found a banana today and pinched it off, gonna gave to watch out for those. Thanks, Happy Growing 🌱 Update: I found 2 more bananas on day 72 and decided to put them in 48 hours of darkness, then chop on day 74. They’ll hang until partially dry, remove fans, then finish drying and into jars. The plants weren’t very stacked, but definitely have some heft. I’m hoping the density makes up for the lack of stack.

Plants were cut on Oct 30th and hung drying for 7 days, then the buds were removed from the plants and dried 2 more days in trays. They got put in bags today with 62% humidity packs to cure. As usual I couldnt wait and had to sample it. The effect was very energizing, cleaned the house like a madman. Clear headed, decisive(which is not normal for me). The buds are quite dense, definitely the most firm I’ve ever grown, tons of trichomes for me. They were all cloudy with sparse amber. Overall really pleased so far, and look forward to seeing what it’s like cured up. It did give me a bit of a minor headache which if normal, and has a lot of lung expansion, bong rips would be deadly.

Hey SAC87, I have been reviewing your journal through the flowering weeks. Your problem that led to the "Buds not Fattening" began between weeks 10 and 11 when your PPMs jumped to 1040 - It was too much, You unknowingly created an imbalance in your root zone that led to a partial nutrient lockout. Then you compounded the Issue with High daytime temperatures and Increasing the Wattage without much change in the Distance between Lamp and Plant. Looking at the Photos, your plants began showing intervienal chlorosis and up curling of the serrated edge shortly after you made the changes to your Grow environment (Bulbs, pH pen). As the weeks progress after the initial insult to the plant, the Increased wattage and temperature began burning your leaves as demonstrated with the darkening color and crispy textures that soon became Yellow/Light brown. The damage to the leaves significantly impaired your plants energy production causing the flowers to stall out compared to previous gains. The appearance of Banana's as you have described further indicates excessive plant stress that is causing hermaphrodite'ing - At this point, I am sorry to say but You might have already lost the Battle.

@HydroHermit, thanks for the reply. I have had this happen a number of times and always in week 5-6 of flower. I started flower with 1/2 then 3/4 and to full strength feeding in week 5 of the feed chart. I am interested to see what happens with the LEDs, it will give me space to move my lights up and down. The 1000 hps is at the top of the tent and air cooled and appears to be too much. I have been wondering if it’s too much for while now. I did an experiment where I moved a nice green plant under the hps side and it yellowed in 2-3 days.

@@Athos,so you suggest more of a mainline/manifold rather than just topping and lst?
Athos
Athoscommented5 years ago
@SAC87, Check my diary Atomic. In that run I grew only 2 colas per plant; you can do something similar, let the plant grow to 5 nodes, then top back to the 3d node and remove the 1st node sideshots, that will give you 4 tops of similar height
SAC87
SAC87commented5 years ago
@@Athos, my goal was to just have 4-6 main colas per plant, but every time I attempt this, my lower branches stretch up giving an uneven canopy. I’ve done lst on the taller tops, but it doesn’t seem to help. Idk what to do about that. Planning another Scrog of some mother’s next round so some tips would be great. Thanks for responding to my question.
