@sango, I call them LST hooks/pins - They're cut, and bent from a 100ft roll of 9 gauge plastic coated metal wire, from HomeHardware for $12cad.

@ProfDoty, Yup! Defoliation is important to provide even light, and airflow, to all nodes. The more you grow, the more you need to remove to maintain even quality throughout the plant.
