OK. Been 4 weeks since my last post. Went on an overseas trip and had someone feed and maintain King Cong (KC) in my absence. I was worried but KC seems to have thrived. Photos show KC at end of week 8. What do you think? Feeding 2.68 litres every other day. Flushing starts in week 9.

Grow Questions

It’s week 9 of flowering and buds are looking big, beautiful, sticky and healthy. Pistils are turning amber and smell is very strong linolene. My 1st grow and Congo’s typical Flowering time is 9-11 weeks. I will flush during weeks 9 & 10 then harvest week 11? Any advice?

I would suggest letting the plants finish meaning cloudy trichomes and mostly amber pistils then begin to flush. I've had to learn myself even after 12 strains that the harvest time given by breeders is more of an estimated time then actual. I would always add at least two weeks to whatever their time of harvest is.

Looks a week or 2 out, don't be surprised if it goes longer breeders have perfected there grow rooms, without the same equipment and conditions it's hard to obtain the exact same grow conditions that the breeders have.

I grow a Landrace Thai that is 100% Sativa and I've learned that the resin will never turn amber so I cant go by resin color. So instead I watch the buds for that time when the buds stop growing noticeably and from that date I grow it another 21 days.

@HighRoller909,thanks for the prompt response and advice. Yes, the pistils are turning orangy/brown but under a loupe, the trichomes are still clear. I decided to go ahead with a full flush and significant defoliation. Now 10 days to 2 weeks of bud ripening, then chop and hang to dry. I’ve added a pic to show the trimmed/flushed plant. FYI the seed came from a Congo bud I purchased from an MOM shop. Super stoked!🤙🏼

sorry I misread your question.if pistils are turning amber/orange it's good, you have 1-2 more weeks.Look at the trichomes,if you have mostly milky ones, then its ready for harvest.I thought you were talking about trichomes turning amber.my bad

@DeeMan,hello mate.Yes I removed all big leaves right before harvesting. This was just for taking clear photos of the plant.Other than that, leaves started to fade away towards the end and I think I had some little nute burn but fruits were highly soft and aromatic. If buds are looking good, leaves are not a big deal at the end of flowering. If you want to defoliate, earlier stages of flowering would be a better idea since it is bud forming period. Apart from that,as these photos are from week 9 and you say so,I see it has 1 more week or 2 at max.I would aim for the week 11 for chopping down.9 weeks is very optimistic, breeders do it intentionally to make us think it's a short flowering strain but actually it takes about 11 weeks. These buds will get some more mass,a little but effective, just wait for it.And try to take closer and better shots when lights are off. You'll be more satisfied about trics that way.Trichomes must be turning into milky. And yes plants drink less water when they are coming close to chopped down, very normal.I would give her one more week,if there are milkies at the end of week 10 then one more week or chop down it's up to you.Mostly milkies is the harvest point for me.You can even stress out the plant to fasten the ripen period but I wouldn't recommend as you can feel bad about it even though plant loves it so forget it :D Lastly,I learned that I should go by my gut.I mean if buds looking ripen and ready,it's generally time for harvest, especially for plants like this.Trichomes sometimes can be confusing. Any newer and closer shots would be so helpful for me to review. 👊👊

@HighRoller909,hello again fellow grower! Not only is his my first Congo grow...but my first anything grow ever. So after reviewing your grow diary photos, I see very little leaf on the plant in late stages of flowering. Do you defoliate your plant early or later during Flower? Pretty much all the pistils are now amber and the tricombs remain clear. It’s the end of week 9 and finding the plant is using way less water...used to water 2.5 litres every other day. Now same qty every 4 days...Any advice from your experience is appreciated...
