Germinated in paper towel and transferred to peat pucks. Then from peat to solo cups of Sunshine mix #4. All from old bagseed. Last round was all zkittlez and key lime pie, 100% female and did great. This round I might have mixed up the seeds so the zkittlez could be key lime pie or vice versa. The seed I thought was key lime sprouted with no cotes or leaves and died a few days later. 2 of the zkittlez also did not make it. And 1 of the ice cream cakes died while the other 2 were severely stunted. Very unsuccessful first week.

3 of the seedlings are starting to look normal. The 2 ice cream cakes are almost dead and their cotes fell off but I figure I will leave them just in case they come back. Got the 3 healthy ones (zk#1&2, slur#4) into solo cups with Sunshine #4. Not feeding with tap water anymore and using filtered water from the fridge as it’s dechlorinated and ph’d to 6.5. Pearlite is turning yellow, not sure if it’s from the water or what... “healthy plants” are starting to show signs of leaf septoria or some yellowing spots on lower sets of leaves. No signs of pests so that’s at least hopeful. Also got some real seeds in the mail. Got a 12 pack (refs) of Blackberry Breath (blackberry kush x thug pug Meatbreath) and Black Garlic (blackberry kush x thug pug Garlic breath) from Jordan of the islands. Got them in paper towels and should be good to go in the next few days.

(Day 16). Healthy plants are starting to droop quite a bit. Not sure if it’s from being rootbound or overwatered. I let them dry out and they still seem to be drooping. Temps spiked up to 85 and humidity went to down to 15% for a few hours or so when humidifier ran out. Humidity also spiked to 100% for a few hours as well from a sensor malfunction. Issues are since resolved. Leaf septoria or whatever it is, is getting worse especially on the slurricane #8 (see pictures). I’m starting to think it could be from the soil/peat or something. Either way they are going to be transplanted in a few days to 3gallon fabric pots with a 2:1 mixture between blue sky organics super soil and promix HP. Going to be raising the lights to try and get some more stretch from them. Both ice cream cakes made a comeback and I’ve transferred them to solo cups. One of them is looking wrinkled and deformed. Might just end up discarding it. 8/8 of my JOTI seeds have sprouted and are looking solid so far. Will be transferring to solos in a couple days. EDIT: (day 19) got the 3 survivors into 3gal fabric pots with my new soil mix. They were well past their prime in solo cups. On the zkittlez #2, the one that actually has the healthiest looking new growth, is starting to yellow from the 2 bottom sets of leaves. It almost has a fungus looking patch growing on it that looks to be spreading.... I also got all the JOTI’s into solo cups with promix hp. All are looking healthy I’m going to be lowering ph to around 6-6.2 as I have learned my medium is still technically soiless. On the mutant ice cream cake I noticed a very small patch of what looked like possible powdery mildew. I carefully removed it and looked at it under the microscope and it is indeed confirmed PM.... I trashed it with extreme prejudice. I’m at a loss of how a spore could make it into the tent. I am praying that it was just vulnerable from the mutated genetics but it still has me worried. Because where there is one spore there is likely more. I am thinking about getting some beneficial bugs prevent this before it happens. I am also going to increase temperature to the 78-80 range in hopes that will help combat the potential problem. I’m going to the local hydro store to see about getting some dry amendments and/or a tea mixture sometime this week. Could be to early as the super soil is full of organic additives that should get me through the next 3 weeks or more. Also added a fresh air intake fan which should give me a little extra cO2 EDIT: (day 21) I’ve decided to do a side by side comparison between the Remo nutrients I had left over and a 100% organic grow. So 4 of the plants will be receiving Remo nutrients with tap water and 100% promix HP and the rest will be 100% organic with 2:1 blue sky organics SS + promix and RO water with various organic amendments. I gave them all their first feedings yesterday. I diluted the Remo nutes to half strength and fed. I used half strength Marphyl Phytoplankton. For the 3 plants in fabric pots, I am really going to let them dry out before their next water. They’re not drooping anymore and have perked up. I’ve removed the yellow infected foliage but it still seems to be spreading. I’ve ordered Great White mycorhiza powder with beneficial microbes so I’m hoping that will do something to stop the spread.

Got everyone transplanted into 3 gallon pots except for 2 due to space. I enriched the soil before mixing with some nature’s pride bloom fertilizer along with some compost samples I was gifted. I also bought some great white beneficial microbes with mychorrizae. I watered the organics with a compost tea at 350ppm and I am only using store bought RO water. The salts I diluted the ratio to half. From here out I am only giving nutes when I see a deficiency rather than feeding on a schedule and also keeping my ppms as low as possible for the whole run as I don’t ever want black ashes and shitty burn ever again. I’m not going to bother doing LST and just scrog them when I flip into flower. I topped my 3 biggest plants and one of the zkittlez seems to have recovered much faster than the others. The leaves are starting to look oddly wrinkled on that one too. My slurricane #8 is the only plant in the tent starting to show small patches of powdery mildew which is a shame because it was a bagseed from some of the best weed I have ever seen. I cut the infected leaves off and doused with milk from my spray bottle diluted to 50/50. If it keeps getting worse I’m going scrap the whole plant. I defoliated some of the lower leaves on the bigger plants. I want the others to catch up so stunting it isn’t a huge deal to me. I am going to be moving my grow location sometime this week so hopefully that doesn’t stress them out too much trying to fine tune the environment again.

Everything is coming along nicely. I fed a compost tea with phytoplankton diluted to 450ppm and a salt feed diluted to 450ppm minus tap water yesterday after plants started showing some odd deficiencies. I’m seeing yellowing on lower foliage and brown spots all over one of the zkittlez. I pulled the infected leaves but it seems to keep getting worse. Hopefully the feeding will help. I separated the plants to give them more space in each tent. The light intensity from my fluence knockoff is way to high and I have no way of dimming it so I just raised it and unplugged a couple of the bars. I am also only running it 18/6. After a few days a couple of the plants were drooping like crazy so I moved them back to the MH tent and they sprang back up. The JOTI plants all seem to really enjoy the high intensity LED as they’re all praying up and not drooping. I did another defoliation to the zkittlez and slurricanes to stunt them and even out my canopy a bit. The slurricanes are very leggy so I had no choice but to LST them down. The canopy is starting to even out now. I’m afraid that when I flip into flower they’re going to stretch too close to the light. Good thing my LED has a safe zone of 8 inches. I’m letting the veg temp get up into the low-mid 80’s and the plants seem to respond better to the high temps. The higher temps slow and even kill powdery mildew spores so that should be good for the slurricanes. I saw a small bit coming back so I doused it with milk again and it seems to have worked. I’m going to discontinue the “Nature’s Candy” fert in the remo nutrient line as I heard the unused sugars can contribute to black ash. For the compost tea, I am only using a teaspoon or less of molasses per 5 gallons of water to feed the microbes.

All plants have shown sex and I removed all males leaving me with 10 plants. I moved everything over to the led tent and did a nice light defoliation. I’m waiting a week to settle before flipping to flower. The slurricane #8 and zkittlez #2 are looking like shit. I’m going to pull them tomorrow. Unfortunate but I don’t want to risk that mold infecting everything else. Other then that I’m just continuing to LST. I regret not topping and training earlier. I would have had a much wider canopy. I can’t take clones yet but I might be able to reveg the skeleton after harvest.

Slow week. Just watering with RO water and trying to keep the humidity down. Starting to think I was overwatering before. Giving 1.5 liters a water. It’s a fine balance to not over water. I’m giving everything a flowering feeding before I flip to flower. I top dressed all of the organics and will give a 1000 ppm synthetic feeding to the rest. A few of the plants are starting to yellow quite a bit. Especially on the organic side. I flushed two of them with tap water and tested the run off. My ppms were sitting around 1200 which should be more than high enough. I got them down to about 600 and fed a phd 3/4 strength synthetic feed. The plants have almost fully recovered in 3 days after the feed. So maybe it was just a ph issue as I haven’t been phing my RO water. RO water is apparently quite unstable so it’s not a bad idea to cut it with a small amount of filtered tap water. I went to the store today and grabbed some Alaskan fish fertilizer 5-1-1. Hopefully this should have enough nitrogen for the organic. The ph is seriously affected by it though. It’s dropping down to 5 after I add the fish shit.

Just flipped into flower. I made sure everything is looking healthy and happy before I flipped. I’ve got the environment pretty well dialed in. I’m not going to be able to scrog this round but next run forsure. I had to unplug 2 of the light bars in my tent as it’s getting too hot and I can’t leave my door open at night. So I’m technically running 600 watts instead of 800 now. That will probably hurt my yield quite a bit but some is better than none I suppose. I also set up an oscillating fan to keep the air moving in the tent.

Things are looking decent. Bud sites are starting to get nice and hairy. The blackberry breath pheno in the center of the room is chunking up like crazy and quite a bit faster than the rest. It might finish early or just be a super thick pheno. I’m going to give a fish fertilizer nitrogen boost to all plants that are yellowing, including the nice blackberry breath pheno. I’ve started a new living soil pile. I took the left over super soil from some of the male plants, mixed in a generous amount of dry compost, worm castings and natures pride bloom, sprinkled a shit ton of great white and mixed it all up. I also recently got another brand of beneficial bacteria called Dr. Mary Janes. Mixed a good amount of that in. I also found a good mychorizzae called WOW Organics. I mixed up a ton and then sprinkled a layer on top. I grinded up some oatmeal and sprinkled another layer over the mykes. I then mixed up a full strength feed of some Alaska fish and molasses and then saturated the medium. In a month or so there should be a nice layer of mycelium over the top layer

Everything is looking good so far. They’re all done stretching and the cheese and black garlic have stretched the most. I adjusted each plant with boxes to create a more even canopy. Buds are swelling up nicely. The two black berry breath plants are looking swollen and fantastic. I don’t like the structure and bud size of the black garlic plants and will not be running them again. Although, they’re getting quite keify and the breeder claims they have a genetic trait that make them put on most of their weight late in flower. So far I’m not too impressed by their size. The seedsman Badazz OG cheese has got good node spacing and structure but has very little trichs and smaller buds. I was just running the cheese to test old European genetics and my bias is starting to confirm my bias. Dutch and Euro genetics are shit. The slurricane #4 is looking fantastic in terms of frost but the buds are lacking a little in size. I’m going to do the 21 day strip today. I should have done most of this defoliation earlier in veg but right now is still fine. Ice cream cake #1 hermed which isn’t at all surprising so I scrapped her. At least it gives me more space to get in and tend to the rest of the plants. I got a pump sprayer to get in a bit closer to the plants as well.

Room is starting to yellow out too soon. Going to hit with a full strength feeding today. I’m still hoping for more swell by day 29. Although for my first indoor run I’m pretty happy. I know what to do for next round and got a sick game plan. The blackberry breath pheno is looking almost done already. I hope it continues to swell because it’s already thick as fuck. I found a small underdeveloped pollen sack on the slurricane #4 that scared the shit out of me. I chopped it off and inspected the whole plant but only found the 1.

Room is still yellowing quite a bit prematurely. I’m going to feed once more and adjust ph back to 6-7. I’m starting to cut my RO water with filtered tap water at 1:5 ratio, to stabilize the ph a little more and to see if the tap water can help with deficiencies I’ve been seeing. I have heard that it’s not good to add calmag in mid flower and I really don’t want to mess with heavy metals that could affect the way the plant smokes. The powdery mildew has come back. It is only affecting the cheese, slurricane and black garlic #2. All three of these plants are in the same corner so it must be something I’m doing environmentally. That’s the coldest part of the tent so maybe the added fans are letting it get too cold. The small fan I added is probably unnecessary and I might move it to my veg tent. If the powdery mildew keeps getting worse, I’m just going to let it ride out and then wash the final product. I should have trained and topped these in veg a lot better but I got lazy and didn’t want to.

Everything is coming along nicely. I had some major hiccups in early flower that will probably be detrimental to my yield but at least now I know better. The two blackberry breath plants are by far the best plants in the tent. The garlics aren’t filling out like I was hoping they would and the I don’t think the cheese is going to fill out either. Getting some good terps but it’s just so airy. The slurricane looks ridiculously frosty and has some beautiful gas terps but she’s a runt, isn’t going to yield much and the powdery mildew is getting worse. I’m going to rearrange the plants in the tent to see if the pm is being caused by cold night temps or genetics. I gave one last synthetic feed to everything. I might give one more half strength depending on how done they look around day 48. I see some nice purpling and fading start. I started a new round of seeds for my next run. I’m popping the rest of the blackberry breath’s and some other random beans I had lying around. Check out my other diary if your curious. I just ordered a 12 pack of gelato 41 x dosido from Archive genetics for $290cad!!! I knew these elite Cali breeders were pricey but come on...

Today I top dressed everyone with a full strength feed of nature’s pride bloom, compost, added bacteria, kelzyme calcium and a handful of promix. This will be the last feeding for both the blackberry breaths. It looks like everyone else is going to go 9-10 weeks so they will get 1 more feeding. Either way I’m going to harvest everything at once so the bbb’s are going to get extra ripe. The frost on the one pheno is insane. Smells are amazing so far too. Will report smell after drying. I just grabbed a full organic nutrient line for use in my next run. I got more of the nature’s pride veg and bloom dry amendments, boogie brew tea, kelzyme xx calcium, EM1 microbes and method 1pps spray. I will also be using Alaska fish emulsion (5-1-1) worm castings, WOW mycorrhizae and a pre inoculated 50/50 coco promix blend. Seeds came in!!! They hooked it up fat too. I got the 12 dolato seeds I ordered plus Slurricane F1 x6 and puro loco x6. The puro locos are going to be used for outdoor and I might do a little pheno hunt of the slurricane this year. The F1 is supposed to be better or more likely to show genes from both parents. Can’t wait! So today I forgot to water and it really looks like it shocked them... they all drooped like crazy and yellowed out more. I got them all watered and raised the light to ease some of the stress. Worst time possible to forget a watering!!! Won’t let it happen again. I was reading that PPFD levels over 1000 require added co2 and my light is well above 1000 at 8”. That could also be another reason my plants yellowed out so quickly. Next round I’m going to up the nutes and get one of those bottles of co2 and see if they make a difference. I would have to keep my filter on a timer so it wouldn’t deplete so fast. Or just use it for the parts of my grow that doesn’t need a filter. I didn’t even need the filter until week 3-4 of flower. I cleaned the sock on my carbon filter and now it’s just sucking the life out of my tent. The humidity went from being too high to being too low. Going to lower the speed until the humidity is proper. This tent isn’t that old and that filter sock was disgusting. Going to try stablizing my RO water with a bit of snow in the winter and rain in the summer

Everything coming along nicely. I’ve discontinued all nutes but will give one more little top dressing to the cheese plant tomorrow then that’s it. Just straight stabilized RO water from here out. The slurricane is just packing on PM like crazy. The cheese has actually stopped the spread for the most part. At harvest I’m going to wash the shit out of the slurricane and cheese with some warm RO water and some h202 to get the majority of it dissolved. Other than that the quality of the slurricane is beyond ridiculous. It’s by far the stickiest strain to the touch in the tent. It’s probably winning for smell too. It’s straight gassy licorice pine. The pm susceptibility is a deal breaking drawback though. The cheese is looking good and smells great. It almost smells like rotten milk. Some of the nugs are really filling out into these nice long chunky little things. The pistils are turning a light orange/pink color too. Unfortunately it’s not maturing at the same rate and will make everything in the tent go for another 1.5-2 weeks. Garlics are looking better. The lanky pheno has filled out quite a bit more than expected and is super frosty with a great smell. It’s finally starting to purple up a bit. I think it will still be quite leafy around harvest but time will tell. Pheno 2 has better structure and density but lacks frost, smell and color. Not very impressed by it honestly. The zkittlez is looking great and getting super frosty. Especially around the crowns of the top colas. Lowers look like shit though. Despite being somewhat leafy, the main branches look quite dense. It’s probably the shortest and bushiest plant in the garden. It’s yellowing out quite a bit now and will probably finish with the blackberries and slurricane. The blackberries look amazing and smell even better. One of the phenos is a crazy producer and creates massive buds with musky berry terps. The other pheno is a beautiful purple strain that produces a crazy amount of frost and chunky golf ball nugs at the expense of large yield. It’s smell is very sweet and candy like and has been a very low feeding and maintenance plant. Slurricane #4 looks great aside from its infection. It definitely wins for resin content and smell but looks like a low yielder.

Day 60F The PM on the cheese has gotten significantly worse in the last few days. I think it may have something to do with the constant humidity spikes every time I water. I haven’t been running my humidifier at all in flower so maybe it’s having trouble keeping the RH up during lights on. Just another reason to follow a daily watering schedule. The cheese and slurricane look fucking disgusting and I’m starting to doubt that a peroxide wash can totally fix it. It worked well for my outdoor crop so it should be fine but this time there is probably 3x the amount. I’ll make sure to really soak the buds and rinse them off good. Bbb#1 is flopping over like crazy from the weight. Too late to stake it up now so hopefully it holds until next week. Starting to foxtail a bit but nothing too bad. It is now 100% done and ready for chop. Bbb#2 is just getting frostier and frostier by the day. The purple fade is really coming along nicely too. Might reveg. It is now 100% done and ready for harvest. Black garlic #1 is finally filling out! I can’t believe it. Never heard of a plant packing weight on like that in week 8. The breeder did mention that it packs on weight later but I’m stunned. Taking her to 9.5 weeks. Black garlic #2 is looking very average. Average color, average size buds, average frost, average smell, probably an average yield. And it’s starting to get a bit of PM. Overall not happy. Will be taking her to 9.5 weeks. Zkittlez #1 has pleasantly surprised me. It was a bushy runt in veg but came through. It’s the third frostiest in the tent, super dense, stacked tight, smells great and looks great. It’s already got a nice amount of amber so it’s 100% ready for chop. Slurricane #4 looks insanely frosty even under all that PM. If I can’t wash it off it’s going in the trash. I want to chop this asap but have to cut everything at once unfortunately. It’s 100% ready for harvest. Badazz OG cheese is looking like a decent yielder but doesn’t have much else going for it. I think it still has some filling out to do. I can’t even smell the final profile change yet. The leaves are rotting off very quickly. Taking her 9.5 weeks. I don’t mind harvesting a bit later rather than early. From my outdoor experience, when a plant is picked early it smells like hay and wet grass clippings until it’s been curing for 3 weeks. When I harvest late or at 30-50% amber trichomes it smells like same scent profile it had when growing. Just my experience. I’ve read that the tobacco industry adds calcium and potassium carbonate to their crops to help promote fire holding capacity and to increase the whiteness of ash. Turns out some of the organic amendments I bought last week contain exactly that. I’m going to give each plant a light top dress to see if the tobacco industry is onto something.

Day 69 (March 6th) Just gave everyone their last watering. I’m going to harvest and wash everything tomorrow night on day 70. I‘m not going to do that whole 48 hours of darkness thing because I didn’t see a difference last time I did it. In fact, it made my plant under watered before drying which caused it to dry too fast. Slurricane and cheese will be washed with h2o2 and the rest will just be rinsed off in warm RO water and hung up. Before and after washing I’m going to go over each branch with a flashlight and make sure there is no dog hair or debris in or on the buds. I will be drying in my spare bathroom (that no one uses!) from hangers. Aiming to keep it around 60-62F and 50-60 RH. Hoping for that 10-12 day dry. I wanted to do a full plant hang but the tent got pretty dirty and I would feel more comfortable just cutting and rinsing everything off branch by branch. I’m going to try my best to keep the full plant intact. Got my humidifier hooked up and running RO water because with tap water it deposits calcium and lime all over the buds and walls. For air flow I’m just indirectly running a small usb fan. I’m not worried about air flow in the bathroom honestly. It stays nice and breezy down there anyway. Got the food grade peroxide and RO water to wash up the slurricane and cheese. Everything except for the cheese and garlic#1 is looking more than done. Trichomes all look pretty well done. Some of them have even burst open. Smells are all super ripe and mature too. Can’t wait to smell each individually in jars. Next week I will recap what went wrong and what I will do differently next time to keep it from happening again. (Day 70F) Just got everything chopped, washed and hanging. The vast majority of the PM was washed out but I can still see very small amounts. When they dry out I can shake the branches a bit to get the rest off. At very least it’s sterile now. There is no question I lost some potency while washing but the amount is negligible for a much cleaner product. I could see lots of dirt and other debris float to the surface of the water after being washed. And no those are not trichomes, those sink to the bottom. I could put that nasty water through a bubble bag and wouldn’t get all that much. Although it probably does remove a lot of the actual trichomes heads. I’ll have to check with the microscope. Everything is rigged up for a nice slow dry. Temp is sitting at 64 and RH is at a nice 60%.

Plant itself had horrible PM resistance. I’ve never seen such a bad case. But I did a good job a fixing it I think.

Good resistance. Pheno 2 got some PM in the last week but was relatively fine before that.

No Smell
Harvest: Everything dried up to 347 grams + 96 grams of super high quality trim. Overall I am not too pleased with the smoke of the product. Although the bud size, bag appeal, smell and taste are pretty much all there, the shitty burn is a deal breaker for me and the majority of this weed is quite frankly useless. Another downside is while smoking I’ve found 4 seeds in an ounce from almost every strain. Light leaks? At least I learned a ton, including how to get super good burn for my next crop. I’m hoping that curing for a month or so will improve the burn but I wouldn’t really count on it. I have seen weed dried for 4 days with no cure and no flush smoke clean and not go out once. I have been told that the key to white ashes/clean burn is proper mineral content in the soil and there is tons of scientific studies on cigar ash going back 100 years. Plants grown in a medium with high levels of decomposing organic matter, phosphorus, magnesium, chlorine and heavy metal ratio tend to produce black/grey ash. Whereas plants grown in a medium with a higher ratio of trace minerals like calcium carbonate and potassium in the form of wood ash, rock dusts, oyster shell flour and lower levels of decomposing organic matter will produce a dense, uniform white ash that rarely goes out. But this is still all theory until I test it to confirm for myself a few times. My last few outdoor harvests did not improve with curing at all so I’m hoping this will be the missing link. Plain peat moss and coco clearly lack essential minerals that help burn. If said theory is correct I should find a synthetic nutrient line with more trace minerals. Makes me wonder if growing if rockwool/basalt rock could improve burn in a hydro setup. I think I did a fairly decent job for my first grow. I went wrong in a million different places but I still stuck it out and got some decent herb. Things went wrong early when I got black spot mold, nitrogen/magnesium deficiencies and powdery mildew. I corrected most of it but things didn’t get really bad until mid veg when I intentionally skipped a few feedings and defoliated quite heavily stunting the plants. I also didn’t even top or start LST until the 6-9th node which was really stupid and hurt my yield. My temperatures were all over the place from the learning curve. I was severely overwatering without realizing it. 100% peat moss is a shitty medium. I also fed way too late in flower (not what caused shitty burn). I also used synthetic nutrients in soil.
