OBJECTIVE -Plant A moved to separate 5 gallon bucket today due to size; she is now 29 inches (this is temporary) under a 600W HPS bulb at 50% power with an air stone providing oxygen . Plant is supported in clay pebbles. -1 more seedling added to the setup -pH maintained between 5.5-6.2 with adjustments made every 24 hours (goal 5.8), although pH measurements may be inaccurate due to meter malfunctioning -159 PPM in aeroponic setup; 200 in bucket -Exchanged aeroponic water bath again today (will continue to do this weekly - used 2 gallons) and continued using the ratio of 2/1/0.5 of FloraDuo A/FloraDuo B/Calimagic + 2 mL Hydroguard (beneficial bacteria solution) per gallon of water -continued air circulation and 24 hour light exposure SUBJECTIVE -pH meter began malfunctioning two days ago - when placed in solution, the reading decreases over a period of ~20 seconds (did not used to take this long to read, & beginning measurement is nowhere near end measurement - so true measurement is unknown). The meter is getting progressively further and further from the actual pH of a control solution. Waiting for new meter to arrive in the mail. -The slower growing plants have grown slightly, but are not experiencing growth anywhere near that of the larger plants - result is all plants are at very different stages of growth. Largest plants (A&B) look relatively healthy. -Older leaves have continued to develop spots, but this seems to be slowing down except for plant C - all the leaves from the first node have turned crispy and disintegrated, and browning is much more progressive on newer leaves than on the other plants. Still unknown exactly why this is occurring. CONVERSATION -Not knowing the actual pH is frustrating, especially in light of the issue with browning and leaf spots - this could be due to pH extremes or fluctuations, so it may progress until the new meter arrives. -Plants are in VERY different stages of growth! Plant A was moved to the bucket because it outgrew the aeroponics setup, while others aren't even an inch in height (and may not survive). We may have to modify our plan (maybe clone plant A and use those clones to keep everyone a similar size?) if this trend continues or if the small plants don't survive.

Something fun. What do you guys think the yield will be? 3x 600watt HPS in a 4' x ~8' area.

I'd say upwards of 4 pounds if you run into no problems from here on out. I yielded 2.7 pounds in the same space using 1200 watts of LED lighting in 12 weeks. Your veg was twice the length of mine so you should be able to get that extra 1+ pounds from that alone. I'm aiming for 4 pounds again on my current grow. Same veg time but this time I have an extra plant and I'm not making the same mistakes as last time. Anyways good luck! I'll be following :)

@PlaguedGardens, lucky i have never had that but i cure for 1 month after the drying. everyone has there own way. again good grow

@The_Bearded_Grower,Thank you! We try to delay the dry time by keeping the humidity within 50-55% RH, we only do it because you get a grassy smell if you dry it really fast and a harsh burn if its too dry

@PlaguedGardens, thats a long dry time im lucky it normally takes me 4 to 6 days but she looks real good

I noticed the same thing at around the same time. As long as they aren't slimy, you should be good. In my case, I had a mixture of nutrient staining and the fact that I didn't quite rinse my hydroton as well as I thought. Plant A looks nice, though.

@PlaguedGardens, Not a problem. I'd worry too. Get the others in and stabilized, I'm sure they'll be fine. Mine I have in now are a pair of drama queens sometimes, but that's because I've beat the hell out of them 😂. Every time, though, they bounce back with force.

@BudTowers, Heard, Thank you for your response. My partner is over thinking everything currently because the plants are not growing perfectly currently😶 Usually when its switched over to DWC everything gets solved, we don't like the seedling stage 💀

@PlaguedGardens, Honestly, I've always been very diligent with beneficial bacteria and temp control, and as such I have managed to avoid root rot, but I understand it literally smells strongly of... Well, rot. When I was using Hydroguard, I would occasionally smell an odor not unlike epoxy resin, but I have never had a single clear signal that the plants wanted to grow anything but vigorously, and any time I checked (and I checked frequently) there was no sliminess. Hope this gives you something helpful.

@ILoVethisPlanT, Yes actually, were looking into some quantum boards, we just bought some for veg, looking to later buy the ones for flower

Ciao e buon cultivo :)
PlaguedGardens
PlaguedGardenscommented5 years ago
@ILoVethisPlanT, We're in a 4' x 8.5' area, we have 3 600watt hps per section. Our last grow was 1.82lb with one less light and less growing experience. Our "modest" goal this run would be 3lbs, logic for increase goal is the extra 600w bulb, higher yielding strain, and learned from past mistakes. Based on the breeder, they say we can yield up to 4lbs max indoors, we'll see though.

Do you find that these type of systems still leave sediment at the bottom of the buckets, affecting the ppm after every water change?
PlaguedGardens
PlaguedGardenscommented5 years ago
@KurbinTurbin, The only sediment we have is from the clay pebbles its very obvious because its brown. We don't have nutrient/salt build up unless its in an area that doesn't get mixed often such as above the clay pebbles near the top of the bucket.
