Day 21 - Decided to run a high PPM for tolerance and watch plants, second day of 2200 PPM, refilled reservoir and now at 1900 PPM. Plants look okay. One leaf tip showing actual nute burn but it’s very small and I think that was from the beginning of last week with 3400 PPM mishap... I think so far, so good, at 2200 max. Thats full strength nutes and additives. Since I have stopped defoliation, the transpiration of all the extra overgrown leaves are adding to humidity levels, sometimes 60%. I may defoliate one plant heavily if humidity becomes more of an issue in the weeks to come. I may do it anyway just to do a side-by-side with/without. Day 22 - Had another close look at plants, I think they getting worse (added pictures, they were over-exposed so I ran them through a filter to highlight what I’m seeing). I added water to rez and now sitting at 1550 PPM. I think I’m getting a calcium deficiency which is weird with such a high ppm of it... I don’t know what else causes kind of a blotchiness like that. Whole leave too... Day 23 - I noticed a genetic deformity on the greener, healthier left plant, all the 9 pointer leaves are actually missing a leaf and are 8 pointers!!! (4 Photos added at end) Right plant is still looking like something bad happening to leaves, it’s just not pure green, it’s getting rusty patches through the whole leaf evenly... no help on “questions”, they see no deficiency yet, but it’s there... will wait longer to see what develops. Day 24 - No issues with nute burn, been steady and holding at around 1550 PPM, they are drinking and eating at the same rate. Added 5 pictures to show difference in leaves between left and right plant. Same nutes, same strain, same age, from seed. Increased lights on from 12.5 to 13 today, I’m little late to my own schedule. I forgot to do it at beginning of week. Will hold at 13 till start of week 7 which will then become 12.5, week 8 will be 12. Week 9 if not ready is 11 hours light till 48 hours dark, then harvest. I did a heavy defoliation of 1/8 of right plant... I’m too scared to defoliate this late in flower without knowing how the plants will respond. So small test section, top to bottom thinning out. Will watch for bud growth, or lack of... Day 25 - got some information from general question area; it’s suggested, there’s a possibility of phosphorus deficiency. As they are definitely different pheno’s, due to growth type, health with same nutrients/light etc. The right plant demands more energy and is hungry for more phosphorus as shown by the leaf deficiency, it looks like calcium, maybe magnesium, possibly phosphorus... I’m going with phosphorus at this point, with the information I have as to what I have done... To attempt the correction, I have added 43 grams of monopotassium phosphate in dry powder and tossed 12 grams of a bloom booster I had kicking around from old grow. New PPM of 1800. Let’s wait and see what comes to fruition. 🤞 Day 27 - Not feeling comfortable about the nutes in reservoir. I did a full drain and RO with flush. Drained again, filled reservoir with new nutes to 1600 PPM. Grow tent is in basement of a 4-storey split...there is condensation forming on top level windows. It doesn’t feel humid but I guess I need to fix extra humidity in house. New purchases include; 1) a water meter to measure exact water dispensed from RO tank into reservoir. I now will fill to 100 liters exactly and use that as the point of reference for everything. 2) A 35 pint Dehumidifier and stuck it in tent, running continuously it drops the humidity from the 55-60% RH to the 42-45% range. The dehumidifier drains into a; 3) Condensate pump, which moves it back into the reservoir. As great as all that sounds, the tent temperature increase due to lower humidity is not great, not to mention the humidifier itself is pushing out a little compressor heat. Unfortunately, the night time temp is now 71, even when it’s like 63F cold in the room. I’m not happy about the dehumidifier inside tent and may move it outside the tent. The new daytime tent temps.... 85F! That’s with increased vent fan speed. I had 92F when I lowered the exhaust fan speed so now it’s running 50% as well. The electrical bill gonna lick balls... I cant run my water cooled lights yet because 55gal drum is filling back up with RO water. Tomorrow I’ll see what happens when it’s running water... I got around 650 PPM eXhale bag CO2 and I hear 85F is where you want to be for LED grows anyway, since LED doesn’t produce radiant heat. They say, in a 1000 watt HPS room, the temperature on leaf surface is about 85f in a 78f cooled room. For LED’s, an 85F room gives you the same 85F leaf temperature. I’m happier running it cooler if I can. A couple days ago I noticed some leaves on the left plant were just starting to show the same calcium/magnesium deficiency as the right plant, now I really got to fix the problem! I will defeat the hydroponic feeding learning curve.... 💪 Day 28 - They drank 13 liters of water, PPM of system remained the same. I’ve decided to change the way I do things, from the wrong lazy way to the right way... I used to fill res, then just add water to top up every few days, sometimes adding nutes to correct the problem I created... I figured it was good since there is still nutes in water, they’ll be fine... I thought you added nutes in the correct ratios for even feeding of all nutrients and weekly change outs are good. BUT NO! This doesn’t work for me. The hungry bitches are taking in more calcium and magnesium and probably phosphorus than anything else and accounts for majority of nutrient loss. My new tactic, which everyone probably already does but for some reason evaded me, is fill a bucket with RO to replace reservoir water AND extra nutrients to make up the PPM loss on a DAILY basis. So, I filled a 5 gallon bucket to 13L and added 13 grams of Calcium Nitrate, stir, 7 grams of magnesium sulphate, stir, and 13g of Jack’s Hydroponic. The PPM of bucket was 2250. I am shooting for 1800 PPM so I’ll decrease jacks for tomorrow’s fill up. I am anticipating I’ll probably need to increase calcium so let’s try 18g calcium, 9g magnesium, and Jacks to get to 18-1900. Once added to the main reservoir, the PPM of system is now at 1759. I’m happy with it. This new method of not being lazy should eliminate any deficiencies I may have.

Earlier, I added Epsom salts to fix purple stems, I’m pretty sure I over did it and I think this is a potassium deficiency but I’m not sure. I was being cheap and didn’t change res b4 moving over. Now that they moved tents, seems to be getting worse. How do I fix fast!? Pix in di

you can be, with the beginning of blockages of nutrients the excess of one leads to these causes, before throwing the old water do an analysis of the ph and ppm in the hydro change the water do half the strength with good nutrients keep an eye keep your ph at 5.7 in a few days you will see results these old leaves will not change the leaves wait for new healthy growths, in serious soil a wash with PH 6.7 water until things come back in place I hope I have helped in something good harvest friend!

Nice setup and nice looking plants. We run similar setups. I've been looking for a comparable diary for a while. Most growers here don't seem to care about yields so much. What kind of yield are you going for? That room will easily pull five pounds when they're done. I won't achieve that with my grow...maybe but I'm only doing an 11 week grow including veg. Anyways good luck on your grow!

@Mospeada, mine are 2 inch as well, I was going to make a bucket grate as well but I forgot. I’ll find something soon, thanks.

@Coughy, Hey man, thought I'd ask if you made sure the pipes had some kind of root guard to stop them getting clogged? In week three of flower I had roots that made their way down 3 inches of the pipe. It's 2 inch piping. The last two buckets were hardly getting any solution and the flow was down to a dribble. I pulled the roots out of each pipe and wrapped the tail around the root ball. Then put in some makeshift grates. Anyways just thought I'd mention it as I didn't think I'd be clogging my pipes on this grow.

@Mospeada, Forgot to mention, the reason I veg for 8 weeks is because I’m growing 1 plant per 4x4 section.

I'm no hydro expert but can't you do a week reservoir with just plain water and see if it heals? Similar to flushing? Have you checked under those leaves for signs of pests?.... You never know.

@Fruitgrower, I asked in general, one guy said, they are different pheno and the one girl is more hungry, he suggests a phosphorus deficiency and after looking online... I’m inclined to believe this may be the issue... I’m going to add some mono potassium phosphate and see how they respond. The current nutrients are mixed in good ratios as per CX horticulture, fresh res, and the one plant is doing awesome...so I don’t think lock out is an issue... it does look like calcium deficiency but I added a lot of cal-mag but not over doing it. I think MKP is the best option right now, but hopefully that doesn’t lock something out lol... learning curve!!!!

@Coughy, well the only thing it could be then is a defiency in calcium or magnesium. This could be caused because of an excess in other nutrients, incorrect watering, incorrect or unstable pH,or just simply not giving enough calmag supps.

@Fruitgrower, it’s on top only, mostly larger leaves... some lower leaves look really healthy.

Can also be caused by light burn (being too close) or too much light intensity.

Hey man, hope you're grow is going well. Just thought I'd recommend topping up your system into the pots evenly. With 2 inch pipes, they're not enough to distributes nutes well when your roots become massive, which by now I imagine they are. If you're adding nutes directly into your res this makes it even worse. I don't have an issue with roots yet so I mix up 15 litre (1 gal) feeds and top up every off day atm. However, I'll be looking at making some kind of hose feed system that runs to my eight pots. Handy thing you only have two to worry about. The only thing the piping is good for towards the end is just keeping the solution at the right temp.

@Coughy, I'm trying to figure out how to share a template feed chart I made on excel. Will update soon as I'm pretty sure I can link it and you can access it through a web browser.

@Mospeada, I think I do okay with the mixing, mix with egg beater plus the pump drops water into res water for aeration. I think I’m going to attempt to stay on top of nutes... daily as you said it... I just made more nutes and figured I could leave and just top up water, it’s not working for me... I’ll be implementing the calcium nitrate and magnesium with some MKP from now on with top up.

Can I ask roughly how much that cost to buy all the nutrients in dry like that (you can DM me if you want) and I presume they won't be of organic nature....?

@Fruitgrower, No, not organic. I ordered from www.nuteshop.com, dry nutrients.

looks like potassium but might be something else.your reservoir ph,hows that bro? too much nutrients you give them, might be causing ph to off.as well as potassium,it may be nutrient lockout because of very low ph.Just a guess.I would check reservoir ph first.could be potassium but why a plant would show potassium deficiency signs when in vegetation, with that much nutrients,,I dont know.

Also if you're adding co2, 22c is not hot enough you want more like 30c! 👍🌱

Quick question, what’s up with the water cooled led light?
KurbinTurbin
KurbinTurbincommented5 years ago
@Coughy, That’s awesome, I never seen that before on leds 👍
Coughy
Coughycommented5 years ago
@KurbinTurbin, It was getting super hot in tent when I tested it, around 94F. So I water cooled the two LEDs to bring the temperature down, but when actually in use, with the humidity and plants in tent, the hottest is gets is actually around 87 but typically low 80’s with cool air from window. I haven’t seen it run through a hot summer yet. I feel I’ll need it in a month or so. If I run the water cooled lights, the tent temperature will be same as outside the tent, 66-78F. I got no A/C to run, and water-cooled set up is less electricity costs.

for example, if you had 16 pieces and you would notice in the 4-5 flowering week that seeds should form should you let them get ready?
Coughy
Coughycommented4 years ago
@Greensensation2020, This next run, I didn’t have any seeds... but I did notice some hardened calyx pods where seeds would form. The harvest I had with seeds was due to light entering tent half way through flower cause I changed something and it reverted to veg, then back to flower.

Loving the diary its helping me learn as I wrap up my second week! How long have you been growing for and using jacks for? I planned to use Jacks 321 and follow the full strength recommendation and do what greengenes on YT suggests. What mix of jacks or what formula do you us and at what strength? Im just about to move my girls in the rapid rooter to their 2 gallon pots today in Happy frog soil. Any advice for feeding strength or if I should this early on this first transplant watering? Im already experiencing some trauma with my girls in the first two weeks lol learning curve is hitting me already. Thanks for any advice you may be able to give!!

Im a newer grower, did a couple soil grows a number of years back, gonna play again so, this my first hydro. 4x4 veg tent, 4x8 flower tent. Sending 2 to flower, cloning 2 to replace in veg. Perpetual Glookies for a bit. Gotta rip out a veg plant for room, bottom right slowest growing so prolly that one soon. 3 seeds, 100% germination.
