This is a brand new GrowDiaries entry from Dinafem Seeds: Remo Chemo. Pretty excited, I bounced around many choices in the moment and went with a good company I had yet to try, and a strain with high THC content and new genetics. That is, genetics I didn’t already have a ton of in other grows. Remo Chemo x Remo Chemo.
Same old typical hung mylar tent in an unfinished basement with direct furnace heat and output ventilation in warmer conditions. My light is a cheap full spectrum LED (300W) with a smaller pod 1/6th (50W) the size of the same construction - this is generally over the seedlings.
I seeded in a peat pod in HP Pro Mix soil and Myke Herbs and Vegetables mycorrhizae.
This is day 3.
Day 9 for this Remo Chemo seedling. No major changes other than slight growth and probably sub soil root growth. It was perky all week, a bit wet at the moment. All good!
Day 16 from seed for Remo Chemo. A bad update this week, I have struggled with temperatures again. Its been completely inconsistent outdoors in my region, so on really warm days its not triggering my furnace from upstairs and the tent has been colder. To boot, I for sure overwatered a bit which is typical for me. It should recover but this is just wasted time and energy. A bit disappointing on this front.
Day 23 from seed for Remo Chemo. So after muddling around I applied some minimal plant food earlier this week, to allow the roots to access some things it otherwise would have struggled to acquire when it was overwatered. I used a very dilute 24-8-16 All Purpose Miracle Grow, Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag) and blackstrap molasses mix. Yesterday, I transplanted to another container. I used 10 parts HP Pro Mix: 5 parts worm castings: 1 part Fox Farms Happy Frog soil. I’ve moved out some plants from my veg. tent so I am hoping for better air circulation.
Day 30 from seed for Remo Chemo. After the transplant, progress! Lots of good green this week, and even moreso after this update as the pictures are a couple days old. Leaving for a three day vacation was the best thing I did as I stopped meddling for a bit.
Day 37 from seed for Remo Chemo. Disaster has struck! I had room, and could see deficiency setting in for the tiny containers, so I transplanted. All other plants of the exact same age did wonderfully, Remo Chemo not so much. Very rarely do I encounter problems transplanting, not only did I struggle to get the soil out, but I feel I ripped all the roots to shreds. Unfortunate. It hasn’t completely collapsed yet in 24 hours so I am hopeful its not fatal. Time shall reveal all.
I have been having major soil amendment problems in flower so I have slightly diluted the main mix. I also have heavily layered the bottom with just HP Pro Mix as well as the top. I only side filled with amendment. The mix was primarily: 40 HP Pro Mix: 5 Fox Farms Happy Frog: 5 worm castings: 1 ASB Greenworld Sheep Manure Compost: 1 ASB Greenworld Black Earth: 1 ETI Greenhouse Gold Seafood Compost: 1 Blood and Bonemeal pellets: 1 Green Gaia mineralized phosphate (guano): 1 alfalfa meal compost: 1 pulverized egg shells.
Day 44 from seed from seed for Remo Chemo. It. Is. Alive!!! The transplant with issues wasn’t fatal, and this plant did eventually perk up. It took time though. I haven’t risked any training and haven’t even cut any leaves off - its unclear if the plant sacrificed the leaves from damage, or if its just sudden excess from soil amendment. Tough strain so far.
Day 51 from seed for Remo Chemo. What was some caution and tender care after the transplant, has turned into neglect and laziness. This plant is in the back of the tent and I just can’t reach. So, its a bit natural. Not much maintenance. I see one prime clone that is so close to ready, and then maybe LST. I have only trimmed a couple leaves. I would normally trim it much more. Right after photos it got a nice relief of water.
Day 58 for Remo Chemo. Total lazy still, neglect, whatever, so I haven’t tied or topped, or anything. This plant is nice and lush, looking good. Still irrigating with just water. A little concerned with pests that keep persisting. Looks to be aphids? With the world locked down it looks like I’m sort of on my own, no products, and I’m actually out of moonshine. I have been and will continue to remove damaged vegetation to mitigate. The shot before the group shot is post-defoliation this week.
Day 65 from seed for Remo Chemo. I commented on pests last week and the difficulties during lock down. Thankfully I was able to pick up some fresh moonshine from my friend (through isolation, and so I treated this plant fairly heavily. 90+% ethyl group alcohol is very effective pest management. You will get some leaf damage where evaporation is not fast enough. I feel really good with at least some treatment. I did clip the massive fan leaves before pictures this week. Just water as needed.
Day 72 for Remo Chemo. This thing loves to grow. You can see I didn’t really clip anything this week and it has pushed out some lush vegetation. I have hacked it apart week after week. Vigorous. Still water to this point, though I expect that will end eventually and I’ll be forced to flower or feed.
Day 79 for Remo Chemo. The green is fading and so I think it may have used up the amendment. I trimmed one last time after photos and will top dress with worm castings before tossing into flower. This choice is because so many of my other plants need more time to expand roots or recover. With the eventual top dress, I still will only have given water. I might get a clone. The reality is: I have more seeds.
Day 86 from seed for Remo Chemo. One week of flowering complete, eight weeks to go. The this plant is not used to a lack of defoliation haha. I top dressed with worms castings mixed with BX Pro Mix to give a slight boost into flower. I couldn’t tell if it was just clearing soil amendment and doing great, or starting to show signs of needing. Worm castings pretty much solve everything.
My flower tent is a 6’ x 4’ hung mylar DIY with two 300 actual watt full spectrum LEDs and 96 watts of yellow spectrum LEDs to supplement.
Day 93 for Remo Chemo. Two weeks of flowering complete, seven weeks of flowering to go. Looking good, nice and green, the top dress seems to have it stabilized. A little time waiting on the bud sites, so perhaps closer to three week stretch. No issues so far.
Day 100 for Remo Chemo. Three weeks of flowering complete, six weeks to go. Looking good so far and you can see buds starting. I still have not given any food, just water. Next irrigation will be a feeding. I can’t wait until things develop a bit more.
Day 107 for Remo Chemo. Four weeks of flowering complete, five weeks to go. Here come the flowers. Looking like it wants to create lovely bud. I fed for the first time in flower two days ago. 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom, with a popsicle stick dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). Lots of time left, so lets be patient.
Day 115 for Remo Chemo. Five weeks of flowering complete, four weeks to go. Feeding upcoming in about a day. Its starting to get a smell and starting to bulk up. Things are looking good I’d say. I think this week will show some good progress.
Day 121 for Remo Chemo. Six weeks of flowering complete, three weeks to go. Last irrigation was 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom with a dip of blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). Surprised by the nearing timeline, not as bulky as I’d hoped, so maybe give a bit more time and size next time. Still three weeks left and plenty of time.
Day 128 for Remo Chemo. Seven weeks of flowering, about two weeks to go. Maybe a bit more based on what the rep. said in comments. Apologies upfront for picture quality - its been a busy week of real life work, cannabis chores, upgrades, and pest management. I’ll reflect the lighting change next week, but as temperatures rise it exposes pest management. It was time to completely go through my tent, even in flower, clean, defoliate, and spray down with a little 90+% ethyl group alcohol. Yes, I’ll take the hit of the trichomes I dissolved and the stress to the plant, so pests don’t get out of control immediately under the new light. In flower, I’d like to keep to the proven strategy of lady bugs, but the local provider is a couple weeks out of supply, and moving around amongst businesses is complicated these days. Thus, bad photos in my garage (I was taking the task seriously), and the disappearing vegetation. I likely won’t feed again, with the end date in flux. But I’ve been known to change my mind.
Day 135 for Remo Chemo. Eight weeks of flowering, about one to go.
A general address: finally reflecting the new high pressure sodium flowering light. This replaces the LEDs in my 6’x4’ tent. It is a 600 watt Vivosun HPS setup! Still adjusting to the benefits and drawbacks compared to LED, for example taking photos. I have experimented with plastic filters and have been shown some cheap products, for now just taking pictures with my phone with “dramatic” effect seems to be the best combination of colour and resolution for now. I’m not lugging them in and out based on the location of my tents. I will also shout-out to Hellishjam and BudXs 🤙🏻🇨🇦 who are constantly supportive and encouraging.
I’m only going to see so much improvement with Remo Chemo because its so late in its life. It has just been oozing since the HPS went in. I think these buds will be potent. The swell is over though. I’m going to be clear that I’m going to hit rerun with this strain and do a much better job. It still didn’t really clear the pests and though the defoliation helped expose buds it probably didn’t help yield in the long run. I am giving water and using up any last nutrients left in the soil.
Not a great end experience based on the conditions of my tent and everything that was going on. As mentioned, poor Remo Chemo didn’t get stability at any point. I was projecting nine weeks and cut during that final week - various decision making there including the state of pests, swell, my other plants, the new lights, and my personal stock of bud. Lots of support from Dinafem which is appreciated, but awkward when each individual grow isn’t put on a pedestal and meticulously handled. 😳😭
Harvest was typical, after some dark period I chopped; wet trimmed; two part bud wash (first part baking soda, lemon juice and water, second part just water) and hang to dry. No issues while harvesting, I had already defoliated because of pests, and so the work was minimal.
I of course was into it way earlier then recommended, and even then the effects were able to wallop me. Over and over again, as the taste improved, the effects were steady.
