Auto Granddaddy Purple (from seed)

Planted 17/11: Sprouted 20/11. Seed 4 out of 5. One plant failed but I have had these seeds for over 3 years so not a bad germ rate. 3 days after sprouting it's 7cm tall so I put the light down. The light was up high because of the HEAT at 35C+. I also put support around it so it it falls over it will be caught before being damaged.

Day: 8 Stage: Veg 1 H2o: 1 lt Canna Vega A+B: 1.5ml Rz: 0.5ml Bt: 2ml CalMag: 1ml EC: Before CalMag: 1.6 After CalMag: 2.1 Growing strong but could be greener. Temps are getting hotter at 35+ during the day. The stretch has slowed and she is shooting out more leaves. Will need to increase CalMag as she is not as green as she could be and after growing one of these before I know these genetics are CalMag hungry so I'll give here extra next feed. ======================================================================================================================================= Day: 12 Stage: Veg 1 H2o: 1lt Canna vega A+B: 2ml Rz: 0.5ml Bt: 2ml EC: 1.6 CalMag: 1.5ml EC after C/Mag: 2.1 Let the last feed be consumed. Increased A+B and CalMag. Bit worried about the stretch so buying more coco to put around the stem in hopes roots sprout and make a better stronger support. ======================================================================================================================================= Day: 13 Stage : Veg 1 H2o: 1lt Canna Vega A+B: 2ml Rz: 0.5 Bt: 2ml EC: 1.6 CalMag: 1.5ml EC A/Cmag: 2.0 Put some more coco around the stem and watered that in to stimulate roots growth on what was the stem. Also a shot of my 600 mm x 800 mm x ~1900 mm grow room. I got an oscillating tower fan to deal with heat... or just move the hot air around a bit more 😤 It's just great for my small space

Day: 19 Stage: Veg 2 H2o: 1lt Vega A+B: 3ml Rz: 0.5ml Bt: 2ml EC: 1.7 Cal/mag: 1.5ml EC: 2.4 Coming along nicely and greening up nicely with the extra cal/mag. Took ages to drink that last feed because I put in 2lts over 2 days and she wasn't ready to drink that much but it all worked out. If I HAD to do that again I would probably bump up the nutes on the second liter of H2o. Also I started LST about 5 days ago and all is well, no broken bits so far. I always cut the 1st set of nodes off because they rarely amount to much and IMO it is at the second nodes where all the off center action happens. The big shade leaves were trimmed on the 2nd node because they were touching the coco and the 4th node to allow more light to the lower 2nd node branches. The bank will let me buy some Cannazym this week so it will be added to the mix soon. ======================================================================================================================================= Day: 21 -- 24 -- 26 -- 27 Stage: Veg 2 H2o: 1lt A+B: 3ml Rz: 2ml Bt: 2ml Zym: 2.5ml EC: 1.9 Cal/Mag: 1.5ml EC: 2.5 Put some Cannazym into the mix and well it's still green. I tried not to take many leaves of and tucked them where I could. The first half of the week not much happened and the slow growth was good to get my mind around LSTing. I ended up only cutting one node off I now remember to cut down and away from the node. The second half of the week she exploded and every camera I had was dead or missing so the photos are of a few days later (day 29) I'm switching to flower nutes for week 4.

Day: 28 Stage: Veg 2 H2o: 1lt PK: 2ml EC: 0.8 Decided to give a bit of PK for something different. Will hold off Flora nutes till I defoliate some more. ======================================================================================================================================= Day: 30 Stage: Veg 2 H2o: 3lt Vega A+B: 9ml Rz: 6ml Bt: 6ml Zym: 7.5ml EC: 1.7 Cal/mag: 4ml EC: 2.4 Did some defoliation then her first 3lt feed to help recovery. Then she took off again gaining almost 5cm over night so I did some more LST. I looked in a few hours later and too my horror I had snapped a branch from an over tight tie down, it was only held on by a few fibers. In a panic I grabbed some duct tape, snipped a few leaves to take the weight off, taped up the break then sprayed clean H2o on the wounded area. After that I crossed my fingers, toes, elbows and eyes before shutting the door. Photos are of day 31 after the injury occurred.

Day 32 H20: 3 A+B: 9 ml Rz: 6 ml Bt: 6 ml Zym: 7.5 ml Calimagic: 4ml ============================================ Day 35 -37 H20: 1.5 lt A big pic dump this update but I'll will tell you what happened to the snapped branch. Well it survived. The first pic is a side by side 24 hours after the break. 24hrs after the photo it wilted again so i snipped off two lower branches and 24hrs after that it came good. A little node below the injury has taken over as the main flower on that branch. The last 4 days it has been gaining 5cm (2") a day and I'm starting to run out of room HAHA but I think I'll manage. Had a bit of yellowing show up a 2 days ago so bumped the c/mag up but we also had a blackout that day for 8hrs of the light cycle so I'm guessing it might not have had enough energy to produce chloroform. Those yellow areas are gone now but I'll keep adding 5 mls of c/mag per 3 liters. Speaking of 3 liters she is drinking that every day now. Sometimes I'll let two days go by to let her dry out but if I go any longer the pot is light as a feather and she gets the droops

Day 38 height = 55cm Day 39 Hgt= 60cm H20: 3 lt A+B: 11 ml Rz: 1.5 ml Zym: 7.5 ml Bt: 6 ml C/mg: 4 ml ====================================================== Day 41 Hgt = 65cm H20: 1.3 Stopped stretching at 102cm which is good cos my light is at maximum height. I have a few spots on the leaves I guess from damage caused during LST and nute water hitting a few lower leaves while watering, it's still mostly green so nothing to worry about. Also two leaves have gone yellow and fallen off but nothing to worry about as they weren't getting any light. That snapped branch has never fully recovered and I should have just snipped it early but while its still growing I'll leave it alone. This is my first attempt and I'm really pleased with the results of LSTing. Without counting my chickens I'm seriously looking at a PB on this strain.

I'll also need another cinder block for the fan as two are not enough Well there she is in all her glory.

Getting some good length to the flowers and filling in the gaps. I started giving full doses of PK at 4.5ml per 3lt this week. I'm not sure exactly when to give it to an auto plant but I figure she has about 4 weeks of flowering left and it is recommended to harvest the plant 4 weeks after the PK week.

I started out week 8 doing 13ml per 3lt of the A+B nutes but I noticed some nute burn so backed it off to 11ml per 3lt and it seems to have stopped. Getting some lower leaf die off. I think this is ok because I read that when they are spent of their nutes they just drop off. I started cutting off the branches that didn't make it to the canopy so she can put more energy into the main colas

Day 63 = 122cm H20: 3 lt A+B: 11 cm Rz: 1.5 ml Zym: 7.5 ml Bt: 6 ml Pk: 4ml C/mg: 5ml ================================== Day 66 Day 68 = 123 cm H20: 3 lt A+B: 9 ml Rz: 1.5 ml Zym: 7.5 ml Bt: 6 ml C/mg: 5ml ====================================== Good news the buds are getting fatter, but, not as quick as I like so I think harvest will be put out to 14-15wks. I am starting to see some purple bits show up and if you look at the close ups you might be able to see. I'm excited about it because this is the first one I've grown to go purple like the name suggests :) Bad news at the start of the week, I backed off the A+B nutes to 9ml/3lt and no PK but in three days shit was going south. She had deficiencies in everything so I put it back up to 11ml/3lt and the spots have stopped and yellowing has slowed on some leaves and others are gaining green again. This also tells me I didn't hit the peak week for the PK13 14 so I'll giver her a few doses during the next week to fatten the nuggets up. Keep it green, stay golden.

We have had two heat waves inside the past two weeks, outside temps were around 40C and the room got too hot even with my aircon on. Resulted in some yellowing leaves in the center directly under the light. Despite the heat the buds have fattened up but they are still not very solid. So I have put her on straight H20 and I'm checking for amber trichs, then she will be harvested. Before my next bean goes in I'm going to try to get a bit more room by moving a wall. I need to get more cool air going in and it's cheaper than a new exhaust fan at this stage. Only thing now is to choose what Mephisto plant to plant next: Hubbabbuba Toof decay or White crack What do you think should be my first Mephisto grow?

Day 84 to Day 90 H20: 1.5 lt She has been on 12/12hr cycle for the last week partly due to the heat and partly to see if she fattens up more. In the end I decided to harvest at day 90 because the stems were straining under the weight of the buds and I couldn't tie them up anymore. Plus amber trich's were starting to show. Wet Weight = 539.9g Est. Dry Weight @ 20% = 107.98g/ 3.80oz I will make a proper harvest entry when I know the final dry weight

I harvested at 90 days, one day shy of 13 weeks, but I really would have liked to have let her go longer because the lower buds were going a nice purple but the tops were only just showing. Maybe it was because they were so close to the light ?? Anyway she didn't get much purple but at the same time it was a lot more purple than I have seen on this strain before. I'd say this is not due to the strain but probably due to the fact I was using cheap Ebay LED's at the time. For my next grow I'm using an HPS bulb during veging because I've noticed, since adding Cannaboost to my mix, that my plants put on a lot of stretch and I hope the HPS will keep the heights down in my limited space. Heat was a big issue for this grow with temps rarely below 27C and the highest at almost 42C. My fault because I forgot to turn the extractor fan on during one of the heat waves we had. I think the heat is to blame for the buds being airy and foxtail-y. But besides that one day she handled the heat pretty well. Now the smoke: It's a creeper and It's strangely potent. Because if I wake and bake I'll have 1 cone and wait 5-10 mins and I'll be cool, I'll go from a [0] to a [4] but if I have 3 in a row in that 5-10 mins I go from [0] to a [10] way too fast. I have a coffee and chill out outside before I do stuff, because I might as well enjoy the ride. When on the way down I become very talkative and buzzed and helps with my anxiety. Repetitive physical work is a joy because the time flies but I really get into my work, making fewer mistakes. I've always enjoyed my previous AGDP grows because it is a nice smooth smoke, even with out tobacco. It has a taste more of spices in an apple pie, subtle but there and not overpowering.
