Grow Questions

Should I defoliate these a bit? And when specifically? Especially the really bushy Stilton x 3BOG. I am haven't adjusted LST since first signs of flower but the tent is a bit crowded and I thought that defoliation might help with air flow and even distribution of light?

With that kind off bushy plant you'll want to defoliate a bit. You can pull a large fan leave off that might be around light getting into lower bud sites. Or you can wait until the flower stretch. And do a big defol then. And also after the flower stretch when you can really see which budsites and leaves are unnecessary. 👍🌱

I am running 20/4, after about 18 hours the leaves stop praying, gradually start to droop until it's worst point through dark period. When lights come on, I water them, within an hour they perk up. Humidity drifts up around 10% during this time also and temps down 6-8 degrees F.

It is the breathing cycle of the plant, completely normal. Plants have an internal clock that adjusts to the periods of light and dark. 2-3 hours before the lights go out, the leaves go down, and then get up completely 1-2 hours after the first lights. You have to worry if you see them constantly lowered, in this case it can be an excess of light or too much nitrogen.

She has been flowering for about a week now and showing some pale spots. At the start of flower I turned the light up from 200w to 300w. Light is currently at about 20" from the canopy. Plants seem healthy otherwise, should I be concerned?

That is most definitely a macronutrient defeciency. Adding extra calmag to the feed should help you out. And you caught it early 🌱👍normally happens when you increase light or use strong LED.

I've defoliated all three plants 3 times so far and the Northern Cheese Haze and 3BOG look great but the Stilton x 3BOG bx is an absolute monster and super bushy. I am not terribly concerned about larf as I'm gonna make some ice hash but I'm sure that it would help with air flow.

Hi there! To me it looks like you could do one more defoliation. Many people like to do the last one during the 21st day of flowering and you havent gone that many days past it yet!

Looking at your grow I see a little early browning of your pistol. It's not to bad but they really shouldn't start turning untill the 5th 6th week in flower. Their telling you their getting a little to much food. Maybe cut it back 50 to 100 ppm.

@GMSgrows, oh my god that is so high! I have never even looked at what dosage they recommend on the bottle. I am using the feeding schedule from Cocoforcannabis.com sans rapidstart and modified to a 6 week flowering period. The EC of the final prepared solution is between 1100-1300 all through flower. If you check week 4 of this diary, there is a pic of the feed schedule.

@ElectricWizzer,...thnx bro, I'm only here to help. I dont enter any contests and the only reason I came onto this site was to keep track of a new strain I have never grown before. When people dont take my advice they may think this guy thinks he knows it all so they go ahead and feed at the dose it says on the bottle. I wanted to see what the dose of floranova was, so I put 10 teaspoons into 5 gallons of water and the ec 2.4 That's is an awful high ec for veg or flower. Flower is always best to start at 600 or 700 ppm, 1.2 to 1.4ec, then if you see some early yellowing start upping 100 ppm at a time. I would hate to be responsible for someone failure, so I dont comment unless I'm sure of what I say. Cheers my friend

@GMSgrows, I ignored your comment 3 weeks ago and look where we are now haha! They still look pretty good but def getting some crispy leaf tips, etc. I have decided to cut back nutes to 2/3 of what the schedule I am using calls for. Recently realized that the schedule is for photo plants and I prob should have been using half strength the whole grow but didn't see any symptoms until a couple weeks into flower. Thanks for the help.

Things are looking real good my bro. Now that your switching to flower nutes, your girls will want less flower nutes than what you were feeding in veg. I start mine at 600 total ppm 1.2 ec then after two or 3 weeks I'll go up a little. You dont want to over feed at this point. Less is best, give more if needed. Girls tips of leaves will burn easy now. Luck my friend.

@GMSgrows, Thanks! Started the flushing today on the NCH. I am using florakleen and yucca at a normal feed schedule until the runoff EC is <300 and then I will give it straight water for 24-48 hours. I figure she will prob get the chop in four days or so. Letting the other 2 run about a week longer though.

Looking good bro. I put down a pond liner from the home depot. It will hold all the runoff with ease. You can get grommets for dwc buckets and put a drain in very easily

@GMSgrows, I'm gonna hard line drainaway drain trays in the tent with pvc and build a wooden platform that my tent will sit on. My reservoir will be under the platform as well as a 2nd tote for runoff. I am also going to punch a hole in the bottom of my tent and put in a grommet, my runoff pvc line will go straight down through the tent bottom and platform and drain into the tote underneath. Each drain tray will have a ball valve so I can monitor runoff EC and also to avoid any weird negative pressure issues if they come up.
