Okay, this is a pure boom or bust, gamble diary, that I am just going to have some fun with. Now that I’ve got my things together (for the most part), I can do some extra curricular with the extra grow space, but also better managed grow space. I decided to do some of the female selection that I’ve mentioned on this site before. Lucky 13, so far so good with this distributor, only sells regular seeds. So, not for the faint of heart. My friend made a purchase some time ago that included a “White Widow Mix” pack, 13 regular seeds randomly drawn from the Widow mixes available through Lucky 13. So this is like BlackJack or some high stakes card game, racing for pink slips, we want a female AND we aren’t quite sure what strain it will be. We can ensure a female bud will have the Widow musk.
The seeds could be any one of the following...
Silver Widow - (White Widow ’94 x Afghan Kush) Back-Crossed to White Widow (2013)
White Russian - White Widow x AK-47
White Wolf - White Widow x Chemdog ’01 x Romulan
There may be more I missed as there are many strains to sift through on their site.
My friend had repaired and dropped off my secondary veg. LED and left the whole seed pack for me to pick two, so I planted four. Best case all four are female. He has popped two of this pack and they were both male, I like my odds. My veg. lighting is two 300 actual watt full spectrum LEDs. My tent is hung mylar in an unfinished basement.
*Starting the diary on Sunday July 26 as I germinate straight into soil. The mix is 3 parts HP Pro Mix: 1 part worm castings. We shall see what next Sunday brings which I will consider week one as well. Did I pick the correct four??!
August 2 -
This is day five for the oldest. Not a great start, one popped and looks great, one popped and I had to perform shell casing surgery and is mutated or stunted, one appears to have failed exiting the soil, and one I see nothing at all. Cripes! Lucky 13 not a good showing here, Unlucky 13. Please at least let the one be female!!
Day 12 for the remaining regular mystery widow mixes from Lucky 13. I actually tried a transplant today, which would have been early anyway but along my usual bad habits, and the first wouldn’t pop out. I didn’t use peat pods because I was out at the time, and I’m sure this effected my inability. I will wait a couple days and try again. The second has dropped some of its funkiness and both look healthy. Just water thus far.
Day 19 for mystery White Widow mixes I and IV. Are they male or are they female? And what strain is Widow mixed with? I transplanted mid week into HP Pro Mix, with a small amount of perlite added, 4-4-4 Gaia Green all purpose amendment at recommended, and Myke Flower mycorrhizae. Looking good so far and I would say slightly different leaf structures - it was possible they were the same strain afterall. Just water and I’ll be rotating in Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag) every other time.
Day 26 for the two mystery White Widow mixes. Horrible week. I gave CalMag for some reason, because of the low amounts in HP Pro Mix and with the Gaia Green, but it was way too soon for these two. Dumb. They did not like that at all. I really didn’t like the look so I gave them a liberal watering, not really a flush. They did not like that. I then transplanted into a larger container of dry soil, with 4-4-4 Gaia Green All Purpose amendment and Myke Flower mycorrhizae. Obviously, I watered with the transplant. Finally, it took awhile, they seem to be bouncing back. I actually moved them outside, as a step to the compost pile, and then changed my mind and topped them mid week. I included the photos so you can see the big time damage and water log. Of the two, the fourth is stronger and coming back much faster. I’ve been teasing seed breeding, I would consider breeding the fourth Widow if it ends up being male. The first, which is taking much longer to rebound, I will likely forgo doing anything with if male. They were able to soak up some water outside today during photos and tent defoliation. My tent is super overcrowded but I am hoping to change that this coming week.
Day 33 for the two Widow mystery mixes from regular seed. The good news is double, I cleared the tent out so there is lots of light. The Widows are also back. I keep waffling on breeding as I am trying to keep my future grower stages tight and organized to my own internal standards. I may not even have a male, so its been tough to adjust. At least the plants look much better!
Day 40 for the two mystery White Widow mixes. Really rapid growth from both this week. I anticipated some deficiency and got ahead of the game by applying 24-8-16 All Purpose Miracle Grow. I’ll look to transplant later this week or next. The long term wrench is a male of course, or worse yet, two. But, you have to treat both as if they were females.
Day 47 for the two White Widow mystery mixes. Here is the deal, I had larger plants in tomato cages being forced out of the tent into flower - they couldn’t be delayed. I have younger clones waiting for my HPS tent, another seven weeks. So where do these White Widows fit in? Then I remembered they are regulars and potentially males *toss them into flower.* I took clones and then transitioned them, there is no reason catering to potential males if I don’t intend on breeding. They’ll be smaller but will indicate if the clones are worth it. I top dressed with worm castings and am just irrigating the previous plant food through. I continued my stream of being proactive with pest prevention. This is my original indoor tent and at the moment had about 546 watts of LED split between multiple lights.
One week of flowering complete, call it eight weeks to go. No sign of male yet... (hundo?)
Day 54 for the White Widow mystery mixes. Two weeks of flowering complete, about seven weeks to go (probably). It appears both are females! Number one seems to have stretched like crazy, whereas number four seems quite stout. Both are in small containers. I gave 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom this week with added blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). I have even given water since so more heavy duty plant food upcoming. I got my heat pump installed and so even though the air conditioner doesn’t need to run this time of year I still have the fan circulating the entire volume of air through the centralized system. The thermostat is basically on the floor.
Day 61 for the two mystery White Widow crosses. Three weeks of flowering complete, call is six weeks of flowering remaining. Its hard to see the plants as they blend in with the background, but it they have a distinct ‘V’ shape as I topped them both once. Within that, they are exhibiting different growth patterns, one is lanky and stretched a bunch, one is stout, didn’t grow up evenly, and has more veg. looking crowns. I fed 0-50-30 Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz with added blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag) earlier in the week and since have since given water as I alternate and the small containers dry out. Well, things seem fine! I forgot to update height last week and so thats not a true jump, but two weeks of data.
Day 68 for the White Widow mixes, four weeks of flowering, call it five weeks or so of flowering remaining. Totally different tales as you can see, much different genes. Opposite ends of the spectrum. Still alternating water and 0-50-30 Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz and blackstrap molasses and Plant Prod MJ Spike (CalMag). I’m acclimating their female (!) clones now.
Day 75 for the Widow Widow Mystery Mix diary. Five weeks of flowering complete, we’ll say about four weeks of flowering remain. Two seperate stories here, but collectively they have finished with Beastie Bloomz and most recently got water. Next will be Alaska Morbloom as the food fades and eventually transitions to water. In terms of the two, White Widow #1 really stretched but is now stacking like you would expect of Widow. The two main crowns are now bulged and distinct masses. The smell, I suspect #1 is the culprit reeking up the entire tent. There is an overpowering pungent, sour, sweet, must aroma that just penetrates everything. White Widow #4 barely stretched and stacked with alot of leaf vegetation. The smell isn’t as strong. Underneath the droop of the two main crown buds sugar leaves, there is stacking of buds like a White Widow.
Day 82 for the White Widow Mix. Six weeks of flowering complete, and we shall go three more weeks. White Widow mystery #1 is still wowing me with its weird smell. Its like sweet and skunky, but you debate if you like it, yet go back for more. White Widow #4 has more of a classic Widow smell. The two are getting water before their last application of 0-10-10 Alaska Morbloom this week. Afterwards, so after a couple irrigations and dryings, it will them be time for just water. Almost in the final stage.
Day 89 for the White Widow mystery mixes. White Widow #1 is still a star. So frosty, perhaps the most trichomes in the tent. The smell is a sour, addictive, pungent aroma. White Widow #4 isn’t too shabby either, leaning more towards White Widow. The buds are much more stalky. This one will try to resist the fade longer. Regardless, the last of the food is being soaked up and it will be water until the end now. I am excited to have given some clones back to the seed donor, and to have the lineage myself, diaries upcoming.
Day 95 for the two White Widow Mystery Mix. This marks eight weeks of flower. Only one week to go. Things are looking great, both showing potential. #1 is still the star, so frosty. It has gotten better day by day and I would honestly wager it may have more trichomes than Slurricane (no, my pictures aren’t really a fair comparison). That sweet/sour twist to the White Widow smell. Noice. #4 is also good, more of a clean Widow smell, obviously less trichomes on the leaves and bud. Remember, the goal was to identify females, clone, and return some to my friend. I have been successful already. Just water for the remaining. These two will get some extended darkness through the week and then the end harvest.
