UncleDale I used to grow back in my hippie days. (About 40 years ago)
I am 65 years old now and have severe arthritis in my spine and hips that causes a lot of pain and greatly limits my ability to function. My sole income is Social Security so I am very limited as to being able to afford fancy lights and seeds from seed banks & etc.
These are mystery bag seeds that my Son sent to me from Illinois. I have no idea how old they are. I thought I would do a practice run with these and I hope to be able to purchase some White Widow seeds for my next run. If there are any Good Samaritans out there that would be so kind to send me a couple seeds I would be so grateful. Email me at [email protected] for my address. Thank you and God Bless you and your crop.
Any way I soaked these seeds in bottled "spring water" for about 5 days before this one popped.
It broke through the soil about a week after planting in the jiffy pellet.
I have about a dozen more seeds that popped 4 or 5 days ago and they are planted in Jiffy Pellets. As of today none have sprouted.
I rigged up a string of 8 - 100w cfl daylight bulbs
1600 lumens 6500k for the veg stage. I plan to switch to 100w cool whites for the flowering stage.
UncleDale Had a lighting mishap during the night. 2 bulbs held up with tape came loose and fell on #1 plant. I discovered this A.M. Severely burned one of the new secondary mains. I trimmed away the affected parts. I hope she wont be stressed too badly. Lesson learned...No more tape!!!
Plants #2 & 3 were both topped yesterday (3/23)
#4 (the late comer) is finally starting to grow.
still feeding only water. any suggestions for organic flowering nutes? anyone?
Also considering defoliation on #1. Any advice on that would be appreciated as well.
Hope YOUR girls are doing well!

Update.........Plant #1)
this week she finally got over the shock from all the trimming and training and began a growth spurt. I may clip a few more leaves underneath but now I'm mainly just going to raise the lights gradually and let her stretch her new branches a bit more. I figure about 5-7 days of this and then I will flip her over to 12/12 photoperiod. I am pleased with her progress. And she has 10 mains! I cant wait to see those 10 frosty colas. My first successful FIM topping.
The other plants have been having their ups & downs but they are doing ok. Will update their progress later.
04/06) Flipped #1 to 12/12 on Monday 04/02. She's looking good. Been trimming a few lower leaves on all 3 daily. Every thing going well, no complaints. The closet is beginning to get a skunky scent. Very pleased to see the indica finallystarting to grow. It was so tiny when it sprouted, I didn't think it would survive but look at it now.
I am really pleased with the Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil. I haven't needed any nutrients so far. I did purchase some Hawaiian Bud for the flowering stage though, just in case......
@burnerac, if your root ball isn't formed well you can have some issues with the roots if you transfer her to a much bigger pot, it's rarely really an issue, just might have slightly slower grow than you would otherwise.
@burnerac,
I start them in peat pellets and when they sprout I transfer to their final pot if I can. I figure this way is easier and less stress on the plant which is good, right?
The first plant went into a bag of Vigoro potting mix to which I added a bag of Miracle Grow Perlite and about 1/2 bag of bat droppings. The next plants will go into Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil which I added more Perlite to. That's it for now, In a couple weeks I will start them on some nutrients. Like I said before, I'm just winging it, not knowing what strain or anything else about them.
Anyway thanks for your interest Y'all.
@bobo420, Cool. My grow has seemed incredibly slow. I'm about to begin week 18 and I see other people harvesting at week 8 or earlier. I anticipate my harvest around week 23.
@burnerac, yeah, I've been following your grow too... you had a lot of problems with the plant and I guess those 5 weeks of veg that are missing weren't without issues too...
But you need to find your way... the way that works for you and the environment and the strain(s) you have. It might be very different from what I'm doing or someone else is doing. Some strains grow faster than others some flower faster than others... there are strains that take 20weeks just in flower to finish... no worries... the important thing is to grow, all other things you can learn and pick up ;)
