BorisJohnson I germinated the seeds in room-temperature tap water that I had left for 24 hour to de-chlorinate. In 2 days, they cracked and then I left a further 1 day for the tap root to come out a little more.
I then put the cracked seeds in a paper towel for another 2 days for the tap roots to really shoot out, to almost half an inch.
I then used B&Q Verve Ericaceous Potting compost, 4 parts to 2 parts Gro-Sure Perlite and 1 part Gro-Sure Vermiculite. I did not pre-wet this.
I popped the seed into the compost, taproot down, about 1cm below, and then sprinkled the mix on top to cover very lightly, almost a dusting.
I then proceeded to use filtered, room temperature tap water as above to lightly dampen the area where the seed was buried, leaving the rest of the soil dry.
Within 3 days, we had seedlings. One of them, as you can see, had 3 leaves, so I will focus on this one as it is the most fun due to rarity.
I was using my geo-tent, with a cheap eBay 1000w led light system that cost me £14.99, but it was useless (the plants stopped growing on day 3), so I have now ordered a Mars Hydro TS600, and will be using sunlight until this arrives (and have seen instant results from not using the cheap eBay light).
I also use a small fan to blow the seedlings for strength, and have a small humidifier which I allow to breeze over the plants. I feed with water very lightly, no added nutrients.
The soil mix I use, plus my water, is a steady 6.5PH. I have modifiers on hand should the need arise.
