This is my first time experimenting with coco I made a mix with some organic amendments to see how it goes.
I have some Bio-Bizz bottles around so I am using them up.
My plan in the future is to try and get off bottled nutes and learn how to create the perfect soil and then maintain it with top dressing and compost teas.
I am starting to see problems here.
The plants are showing nutrient deficiencies. :(
I have some bio-bizz Pre mix around so I top dressed with some of this and hoped for the best.
The mix I made must have been too weak, It didn't break down because I didn't let it sit for a month or it's my lack of experience with coco.
Things aren't going as planned but I am confident I can turn things around when I Repot them!
Still having problems with nutrient deficiencies.
This week I have transplanted the plants into 3L pots and made a strong organic amended coco mix. I had a bit of 50% soil mixed with 50% coco left from my last grow, so I used it on 3 plants to see what works better (Coco mixed with soil or coco on its own).
I am sure the deficiencies should be fixed in the next few days!
Yes! The nutrient deficiencies are finally fixed and the plants have that green colour we like to see!
The coco plants are struggling with cal/mag issues so I actually measured the amount of cal/Mag I was giving them and used the Bio-Bizz guidelines. 1.4ML per L to fix the deficiency. I was eye balling it and wasn't giving them enough.
The 4 plants in 50% soil 50% coco are actually doing better than the full coco mix. From now on when making my soil I will use 50% soil and 50% coco. It also makes the soil easier to water because the coco makes it soak/drain the water a lot better. I'm also guessing its better at holding eco life.
I topped the plants this week.
Everything going as planned and all problems are solved.
I would have better growth at this point if it wasn't for the problems I had at the start but all is good now and should be smooth sailing from now on! I now understand more about coco and amending soils. That's what growing is all about! Trial and error! Failure is success in progress!
I transplanted this week from the 3L into 20L round pots and moved them into a bigger tent (1.2m x 2.4m x 2m). I added two 200w LED lights to the 400 LED for vegging in the bigger tent. so I have total 800 Watts in total.
I changed the switch to 12/12 yesterday 18/10/20 and changed the lights again (2) 600W LEDs and (1) 800W LED for a total of 2000W.
Temperature is 40C I can't do much about this I am growing in a sealed room and I have the co2 between 2000-2500 so they can cope better with the high temperatures. Critical is an afghani strain so hopefully they are able to cope with the heat better than other strains.
I don't use much of the nutrients listed I have them around from previous grows and use them rarely as I made a strong super soil mix.
I use the Biosys and Mammoth P once a week.
Everything is going well and plants look happy as Larry!
Was having seriously high humidity and temps in a sealed room and dehumidifier wasn't doing anything to combat the problem. It was so bad the walls where dropping water...
My solution was to open the door and windows on the top floor of the house and now my temps are at 28C during the day and humidity is under control. Temps are a bit cold at night now but nothing serious 10C.
Unfortunately I have to use more Co2 because the air is venting out.
On the plus side plants are looking fantastic and should be in a less stressful situation.
7 days since switch today.
Just watered with water this week. Sometimes I add some Bio-Bizz products but rarely.
The plants need trimmed.
I am going to wait until next week which will be 21 days from 12/12 to give them a nice trim to open them up for more light and clear the lower growth.
Everything is perfect temperature and humidity, light, Co2, air circulation... All on point. 👌
Day number 21 of 12/12 light.
Plants are now done stretching and Jesus... They grew 4 times in size in just 3 weeks.
Starting to pack some nice bud! Some of them are smelling lovely and lemony and some have a skunky smell!
I cleared all the foliage and opened them up, I filled a garden bag completely!
I will be giving them a strong feed of bio-bloom and top-max in the next watering and I will also be top dressing the soil with bat guano.
Can't wait to see how this turns out!
- Not much activity happening on my part just watering as usual 4L every 2/3 days.
- The plants however are getting fatter by the day truly amazing how things are going! The plants are in heaven!!
Will be harvesting next weekend!
Some of them are ready some still need a few days to go.
Con of not having clones is they all finish at different times so have to find an ideal date for most of them to be at their best.
Things are looking and smelling very sweet! 👌
Taste citrusy like a taste similar to lemon but not quite lemon very tasty stuff!
High is strong and relaxing very good for winding down at the end of a long day and it produces a bit of a head high.
Very good strain not fancy but does the job very well and a it's very good producer.
Would I grow this strain again?
YES! Without a doubt this strain is 100% worth growing it's a very well rounded strain and if you are trying to produce commercial amount of bud then you can't go wrong with this one 10/10.
This strain likes a heavy feed. I had nutrient deficiencies at the start of the grow as I was growing in coco... I don't have much experience with coco so I am guessing it was cal mag deficiencies. I wasn't giving it enough bio-bizz Cal-mag so I corrected this and gave it the bio-bizz guide amount. When I transplanted into a supersoil mix with a higher ratio of soil than coco the plants took off and recovered really fast.
After 6 weeks from seed the plants were put on 12/12 initially I was struggling with the temperature and humidity so to correct this I opened the grow room door and the widows in the house and managed to get the perfect environment. The cost of Co2 for this grow was through the roof due to this.
The plants stretched a massive amount I think mainly due to 10 days/2 weeks of high temperatures of 35/40C.
Out of the 18 seeds one of them was a low producing dwarf plant though the quality of the buds on it look really good. I think had it not been for the early heat stress and perhaps this low producing plant I would have easily achieved 2kg.
I'm super happy with how this grow turned out!
God my man those are some of teh heathiest plants ive ever seen and huge buds man , is the strain known for flowering fast and yielding well? Im on like qeek 7 of flower and my buds are nowhere near that size , granted the genetics of my plant are half MAlawi half Northern lights i feel is why bud man the size of uour buds is amazing , my plany looks alot more potent than average but the yield will be low because i didnt give myself enough yime so ive had to have on a 10/14 cycle to harvest on time of moving lol ill be watchinh you man check mine out if you van id appreciate any tips youve got
@GACiNATI, Yea man we didn't get to this overnight a lot of work has been put in before any actual growing happens. I then have a good few grows under my belt. You could say I have a university degree on growing cannabis lol! it's a passion I have always had and I really get into it. I experiment and see what works best I read and try a lot of different techniques. I have my environment spot on for growing all the digits are on point. So when you have this nailed it's really beautiful the plants that come out as a result. These plants take 7 to 8 weeks to flower but it seams like they are going to be ready soon. I have the magnifying glass ready and checking on them daily. Your plant looks very good and has some nice buds with the Malawi genetics it will probably take 10+ weeks to be ready. Copy what I did on this grow for your next one and see how it goes!
