This week I did a light pruning to allow more light penetration. It is growing really well and am thinking of starting the flower light schedule soon (next week or 2) due to size.
Busy week for Blue Dream! Upgraded to a 2’x4’x6’ grow tent and added a scrog screen.
After pushing down the screen, did some pruning for better light penetration, and topped one top node towards the left side of the tent were the screen could use more coverage. There is more robust growth to the right of the plant (direction I bent the main stem when starting LST- started a bit late) I was hesitant to do too much topping/pruning because I want to start her flower cycle soon!
The screen is pretty full, and I’ve read Blue Dream can easily double in size during flowering, so my plan is to give her a few more days to recover from all the LST, scorch weaving, pruning/topping and then gradually switch to 12:12.
Feeding: Gave FoxFarm Grow Big today, and began introducing Fox Farm Big Bloom 2 days earlier as we get ready to transition to flower. Wanted to feed Grow Big today to help with recovery and growth from this weeks pruning/topping. Being a new grower, I’ve been trying not to overfeed as I’ve read how easy it is to do, so far the plant seems very happy.
💗🌿
This past week I gradually shifted to 12:12 to start flowering! I am thrilled to see how this beauty fills out with flower! This is my first grow so I may be overly enthusiastic.
She is growing like crazy each day. I continue to prune for light penetration and defoliate the underside of the canopy. I’ve been very cautious not to over prune because I don’t want to shock her, but I think she loves it! Usually she just explodes with growth and I can’t even tell I’ve pruned after 2 days. I know that these next few weeks will be the stretching period and I’m just pumped to see her fill this tent.
I’ve had a bit of a struggle keeping the humidity down at night. No humidifier on but the tent still gets to 80 RH with the lights off by morning. I ordered a humidistat from Amazon and will use that to automatically switch on and off my humidifier/exhaust fan. Definitely don’t want to end up with mold problems once she flowers. This plant has been my baby for the past 3 months!
Feeding: 2/3rd Grow Big, 1/3rd Big Bloom. Will continue to ween off the nitrogen feed for Big Bloom over the next week or so. Some growers use a lot of other additions, (my soil PH has always remained around 7) so hopefully these two are giving the plant enough of what it needs. I can’t wait to see what her yield will be!
Blue Dream is growing like crazy! Had a little bump earlier in the week where her leaves were looking a bit droopy... it was due to under watering 😬 oops! Totally newbie mistake, also she’s just SO hungry. I have been giving her almost a full galling of water every other day (ish). I have been weening off the nitrogen (grow big) nutrients and gradually increasing the bloom nutrients this week and I now have her solely on Big Bloom.
ALSO upgraded my grow light to the Spider Farms SF2000. I think I have a problem because I keep spending money on my grow gear. 🤷♀️🏼. I read Blue Dream likes warmer temps during flower and well this light is definitely hotter than my MarsHydro (which was also a smaller light). This new light has 2’x4’ coverage for flower which is the perfect size for my tent! - also want a bigger tent now..
She has definitely rebounded from my under-watering mistake and is looking great! Cannot wait to see her flower!
Had another droopy day this week, pretty sure it’s under watering (I’ve been so nervous to overwater). I’m watering every other day, about 1/2 to 3/4 gal at a time. She seems happy now!
I added a second layer of trellis netting for support as she continues to fill out.
I also realized that I was feeding Big Bloom and not Tiger Bloom so started to feed Tiger Bloom this week! 😅
Excited to see how she fills out with buds!
Going into week 4 of flowering strong and healthy! No more under watering newbie mistakes 😅
I added the second layer of trellis netting for support. There are definitely several dominant colas that out stretched the others. I realize now that this 6” trellis really was not a true scrog, though I did do weaving on the first layer to try and maintain an even canopy. Ultimately there are definitely some high points to my canopy but I have been strategically defoliating to allow light to bud sites and removing anything the pops up below the canopy. I lollipoped a few weeks back.
Regardless she is seriously huge. Pretty much has filled the entire 2x4’ tent and is up to my stomach (I’m only 5’2 but still!!!)
ALSO trichomes appeared this week which was a highlight for this first time grower 💗🌿
Had one droopy day this week (humidifier ran out of water overnight) but rebounded after watering.
Starting to show signs of deficiency in leaves (tips starting to yellow). I have been feeding based on Fox Farms schedule, but have not been PHing water or testing runoff. Ordered the supplies I need to start that process.
Last feed was PH 6.3 water with cal-mag. This is the first time I started using cal-mag too. Read that it cannot hurt and only help. Glad blue dream has survived my first grow so far without some of these best practices!
Learning so much. I am staring to see orange hairs, you can see in some pictures, and I was worried this was too early so began reading up on it, which led me to have a hermie scare (did not realize that female bracts have a pre-developed seeds in them). Basically I pinched off a female bract, saw the tiny seed and was STRESSED. Thanks to help from this community I now understand she is not showing hermie signs! 😅
According to the strain info, I’ve got 5-6 weeks to go. Hoping the buds get fat and that I don’t/didn’t already f her up with these yellowing leaf tips!
Watching the buds fatten is incredibly satisfying! I feel like they could be fatter, but there is still time and this is my first grow, so we’ll see!
Had slight nute burn last week but did 2 waterings of 6.5ph water with a little cal mag. The leaf tips seem to have stopped crisping. I know she’s in late flower and the leaves eventually fade, but this first grow has been huge a learning experience!
According to the breeder, flowering is 8-10 weeks (56-70 days) and I’m at day 40 so the finish line is in sight! Just a few more weeks before I’ll be questioning wether she’s ready for harvest or not. 🙃
Harvest is getting close!
Started to flush even though I read this might be “bro-science”. Being my first grow, I’m doing the flush and maybe on my next grow (currently have 2 autos growing in my sketchy closet) I’ll experiment flushing one and not the other so I can compare the taste myself!
Some larger, older fan leaves have begun to die off and yellow while the rest of the leaves are more slowly fading. Harvest is SO CLOSE and I’m just pumped. Looking at the trichomes on the buds, there are just a few amber starting to show, and (I think) a good amount of cloudy. Definitely still some glassy. I’m watching them closely, but anticipate going another week. That would put her at 9 weeks of flowering. Breeder estimate is 8-10 weeks.
I’ve been growing this lady since November, and even though with a proper cure we won’t be smoking her until the end of April, seeing all these glorious frosty buds is just SO exciting.
I’m not going to bother trying to estimate how much bud there is, but there is way more than I would have anticipated for my first grow and I’m just keeping my fingers crossed there are no issues in her final weeks!
Oh I totally gave a smaller bud a squeeze (hey I’m curious) and it was DENSE and made my fingers smell like HEAVEN 🤤
My dogs been sick and life’s been crazy so I have slacked with updating.
Monday starts week 10 and also marks 2weeks of flush. Trichomes on buds are definitely cloudy but very few amber on buds - plenty on sugar leaves. I feel like they have had the same amount of amber for the past week and a half (on buds). I’m starting to wonder if I started the flush too early.
This is my first grow so I’m really just trying my best. Asked for advice regarding harvest, trying to understand how many trics should be amber before the 48hrs of darkness.
Concerned my sugar leaves are now yellowing. Fan leaves are all dying off. I prune off a handful a day.
Buds look nice and I really want to chop her down, but I want the trichomes to be perfect. I’ve come so far! Turn amber alreadyyyyy
