Jan8 Following some pretty specific rules relating to the Seed Germination warranty.
And that’s Ok when you see positive results.
As directed, seeds in water for 18 hrs. No obvious tails, but both of the shells appeared cracked, and into the paper towel w/ water, folded, drained excess, darkness in an open room. Bang, tails. 3/4” and 1/2” in just over 24 hrs.
Right into Solo cup & plain potting soil.
Tonight (fri) the tent was established and ready for the grow to begin. Pictures to follow as relevent.
Seeds spent the afternoon on the window-sill and were put in the tent with lites-on and a 18/6 schedule.
** Thanks to the 3 growers for answering my question today. I don’t plan on stressing these autos and really appreciate the recommendations. New to Auto’s.
I’ll go direct to the big pot next.
Thx ~ d
Morning of the 9th.
-At the End of the very first exposure to light for these seeds, after being transplanted into soil and given 18 hours of light, One of the seeds has sprouted already ! That’s impressive.
Jan 10, On Sunday. the 2nd seed popped above ground and is doing fine.
- Week 1 starts soon enough for these seedlings
14th a.m. both seedlings look strong with the next wave of Leaves forming already. Definite growth happening
- tent re-organized & ready to go
15th Day 7 sees the Seedlings getting transplanted into the bigger, final Pot. During the transfer one of the solo-cup contents disintegrated while I was moving the seedling.
Gently I put all the pieces in the soil and watered.
The other seedling was no issue. The good news was that there is solid root development down to the bottom of the soil in the cups. Roots were aggressively sticking out the bottom 1/3 of the cups
When planting seeds directly to soil, Is it necessary to re-pot them into medium-sized containers... or does it make any sense to go directly to larger, final pot?
With autos I think it’s best to go straight from your starter pot into your final chosen pot size. Potting up multiple times is better suited to normal photoperiod type plants.
The reason for this is minimal transplant shock slowing growth and not inhibiting its root growth.
Happy growing buddy👍
Mon Jan 18
-Watering now, not spraying...
Coming into the 1st week, no nutrients, just a moistened soil
Now that it is up and running, the temp will go up a bit to start. Looking into best times to start feeding req’d nutes... soon enough.
- carried out a Foliar feeding just as the lites came on & went off. That will be the plan for the next couple of weeks; a daily Foliar application
Sat, Jan 23
-adding some RootBoost and Cal/Mg to feed-water
-Foliar treatment with Ocean Magic at lights out.
-Both are growing steady with 3rd node foliage appearing
25th
-3rd node leaves are established while little tufts of the 4th are right there.
-Next feed has real food !
-25th am the 4th nodes are out and spreading.
Got down low and saw a lot of activity, under the Lower leaves. I snipped-off the Cotyledon and 1st leaf and found a busy structure.
Each plant is working on producing the 5th node.
So...
First multi-nutrient dinner tonight with a bigger watering area for each of the plants & more liquid than it has seen.
Let this one dry now for a day or so. Food is In !! Temp is almost 27c, Just like home.
26th
- lowered the Plants 6” from the lights & turned on the Bloom/Red spectrum of the LED lite. Let there be lite, and keep the top temp below the room temp. Full spectrum now
- adding Molasses to the Menu ~ working quickly towards 1 Tbsp / Gallon or 5ml / Litre (and beyond in flower) ___ For the Soil ___
30th, both plants are kicking it into gear, 7th node leaves are out. Molasses added for 1st time in Nutes.
- trimmed the top 2” off of the flex-pot, making watering and LST access next week much easier.
- Planning to employ some LST shaping in the coming weeks, no topping/FIMming.
Shaping the plant is more for space control.
*** this autoflower is hard to think about applying any shaping to, as the Nodes are right on top of each other, in a very short section of Stalk.
We’ll See where it goes.
Feb 2nd
- the leaves from the 7th node are visible. Hoping it flies into Stretch real soon.
-New Growth around the stalk and leaf junctions is full speed ahead.
- committed to feeding nutes and the levels are going up each batch.
-Bigger feeding circles on the soil, trying to make good use of the root space available
- feeding tonight & will check activity under the canopy
-molasses is a nutrient every other meal; not tonight.
** Last 2 pictures show there are branches to start LST with, and to find some sense under those leaves **
Feb 3rd
- trimmed the big fan leaves and exposed Bud sites.
- found the L plant main stalk to be close to 45degrees, in the wrong direction. Stood it tall with a stake. They are now equal in height while the R plant is slightly more developed.
- I’m giving the main stalk a couple of days to continue with it’s own kind of upward reach, And it is happening
- LST applied by the weekend.
* made a decision to feed these two autoflower plants at 50% of recommended Veg/Flower nutes; including Rezin, when we get there. Moving them up slowly.
Molasses, cal/mg & rapidstart will see use as needed.
It’s an “Economy-driven decision” from a sudden curiosity about autoflowers. (And an empty tent lol)
At the rate they are picking-up speed now, I will be watering them as one soon enough.
Feb 5 a.m.
- applied some LST to begin gently shaping the plants for my smallish tent. 24x24x64
- L plant has been kind of wrapped around the stake, to provide something to help lever the branch in the direction I need. Given its funny angle coming out of the ground, it’s an improvised rig that’s working so far.
- R plant no issues
- hard to see in the pics, but the plants main-stems are anchored to the back of the pot, and they are being gently pulled / shaped towards you.
PM
- LST completed & successful in finding a nice pattern for the branches on the plants. More of a horizontal orientation with Minimal loss of bud sites and leaves.
No hard-bends but over the evening a shape was applied
Feb6
- In the morning the plants looked spectacular after their LST Session last nite. Leaves have rotated to the lite and away we go. Leaving it as is for a few days to accommodate my bullying...
“impressed with these auto’s”
& the height is back to 4-5”
Feb 9
-Week 4 begins with a couple of images involving the LST I used to fix the L plants, angled stalk. (when fan leaves trimmed I found plant tilted at 45 degrees and aimed 180 degrees in the wrong direction)
-With the nodes being so tightly packed in this Autoflower, the LST was really awkward to get started. Patience and some plastic markers, helped get things sorted and out of the way. The picture makes it look fool-proof. We will see how it progresses.
-An extra couple of days without water is helping to ensure the roots don’t get soaked. Feeding planned for tonight.
- Foliar apps cut back to 2x week until bud sites established... then Foliar applications stop
- watering circles getting bigger and using more. Nutes are climbing.
- So is the footprint of each plant. Stakes will be helpful here shortly to spread these out. Gonna look kaotic for a bit...
- plants are now touching, time to lay-out & commit to the space between the plants.
Feb 12th finds lots of new growth and what may be the first Pistils from the main bud area.
- removing leaves as need be for shadow removal. Pretty tight quarters still up near the top
14th, Foliar application (2 more then that’s it! ie: week 5)
15th a.m. carried-on with some LST now that the branches, are branches.
- TDS 985, w/ Molasses =1120
- mid-week 5, I will start to transition from Veg to flower nutes. You can see activity at the bud sites. Let them squirm for a few more days and give the LST some time to have an impact. More to come
Feb16th
- finished the LST that was available so far. And the plants foot-print is indeed much bigger and will be ready to switch gears and flower anytime it wants.
- defoliated as need be, especially under the growth.
- Ending week 4 on a high note! Buds are forming, things are resisting restraint and want to go vertical.
- transition to flower nutes from Veg, begins Sat.
- AutoFlower & LST; looking forward to the 2nd half and then some.
Feb 17
- Finally finished the LST tie-downs. An awkward little plant to work with, but it’s finally laid-out.
- Mid-week will see a transition from Veg nutes to Flower food.
- pushing humidity up towards 60%
- began week 5 w/ the Last Foliar spray of Ocean Magic, applied at Lites-out
- next feed will see an introduction of Rezin at a very small amount. This will lead the shift from Veg to Bloom Nutrients here in week 5
- switch, or transition will happen over 2 feeds
* small victory;! there was a Smell in the tent when I checked-in today. 1st time for the sisters
- in a moment of weakness, I have added a bit of massive bloom, to begin the transition to feed the bud sites. Next feed sees Medi-one included for the last time.
20th
- lowered the whole works to the floor of the tent and rearranged heat/humidity set-ups, as we get ready for these girls to grow vertical.
- humidifier failed so a new player is in-use, with an actual visible vapour... seems to be working just fine.
- Maintaining a 2 degree diff between room temp / top leaf temp
- last feed tonight with any Veg nutes. Move has been made to feed the Flowers, mid-week 5
24th
- it has been a visually quiet week. The plant has definitely begun to grow Flowers and there is definite new growth.
- main focus has been to introduce Nutrients into the water feeding, and now those levels are increasing.
- fresh pictures tonight, last nite of week 5/10
Feb 25th
- 6th week for these plants and it’s time to admit they are Flowering.
Space requirements are being worked-out & this collection of plants will move into the larger tent Mid-March at the latest.
Fingers-crossed, They will indeed have room to finish strong.
Mar 2nd
-Nutes have “all” been introduced, time to crank-up the Volume
- noticed this morning that the Buds are adding Volume and Odour !!
-Molasses into every third meal
- next meal shown above = TDS ____ ppm
Mar 3rd
- common sense had me picking some of the Foliage this morning. Inward facing leaves, Obvious lite blockers,
dried leaves under the canopy etc., allowed a bunch more lite into and around the many buds.
- rewarded them with a good misting of water
-soil was still too moist to feed
Mar 4th
-after a bit of defoliating yesterday, the plants look really healthy this morning.
Lots of visible buds, and I noticed that some of the Pistiles have actually started to Krinkle and are turning colours already. Let the games begin
- Buds are starting to gain a little mass
- fed
Mar 7th
- checked the soil to see if they can be watered tonight, Nope. a Larger volume of liquid with an extra day to dry... is the plan. 4L batch to become 4.5 L and will continue to grow. Moisture meter for the soil ( and the actual weight of the pot ) are the critical details telling me when to and when not to water. Time to push the Autos. But just not yet, still too damp.
Mar 9th,
- final morning with guests in the tent.
- some space...
- what the hell, put them all in the big tent for economy sake
Mar 12th
- Entering week 8 of flower the density of the buds is really growing
- Molasses included in next feed; every third one
Mar 14th,
- The plants look great with continued growth and Buds plumping-up left and right.
- Nearing the end of week 8, in an 18 hour cycle most of its life... I am going to be leaving the Autoflowers in the same tent as the other Photo-period strains, as I move them INTO flower.
Nothing shocking, just a 2 hour decrease in light, every other day, until we hit the 12 hour cycle ~ 6 days. Research says it may extend the grow cycle of the autoflower, by reducing lite at this point in the grow. I am willing to take that risk. Willing to call it a light taper, as the auto finishes its business.
- Water volume is going up w/ each meal. Fed last nite, see how many days we get between feeds. (4 is the target this time; then 50% volume and a 2-day wait for next big feed)
- once in a 14 hour schedule (fri) the UV-B lite will be hung over the MauiWowie for the last couple weeks of it’s run @ about 4 hrs per day ( 2x2hrs )
- my impression is that the uv-b with a 3100k lamp (desert rating), added extra Trichomes and flavour to the last batch it was used on (see Panama x Malawi)
** FLUSH targeted for the End of week 9 **
Mar 17th
- plants fed as above;
Tds = 980ppm
- back in their own tent mainly for climate control; lower temp and humidity. No issues with 22c @ 45% R.H.
- UV-B lite will see 3 hours of use each night from here on in; 2 sessions @ 1.5hrs apiece
- these buds are really picking-up a fragrance and getting super sticky while bulking up.
Amazing progress in the last week !! I am seeing this project take on some new energy as the Maui Wowie is definitely finishing strong
Mar 19th
- this plant is really stuffing the buds the last week. the plant is producing some really solid growth and density to buds.
- week 8 coming to a close. hoping the plant sees a really quiet week leading up to the Flush on Fri/Saturday Mar 26/27th...
Mar 20,
- These plants are putting on a show, about how to fill a Bud.
The Maui Wowie are stuffing the buds into hard little nuggets. First-time I have seen true Nuggets indoors. Week 9 is going to be fun.
- White Pistils have begun to turn Brown/Amber and are getting “crinkly”.
- not to mention sticky as hell
- final Flower meal (Sunday) posted above = 8L
- TDS = 1125ppm for the final feeding.
Mar 22nd
- some fresh air for a few Pictures in Daylight and a thorough Flushing; 15 gal pot w/ 2 plants and it took 35 gallons of prepared h20 to get the TDS below 130ppm
- Drip-dry in the Sun for a couple of hours then back inside before any insects find us. Early spring warmth here in southern Ontario.
Mar 24
- it’s an amazing plant with the canopy looking like it’s full of Buttons. But in reality each of these buds are getting Longer every day, all at the same time.
Harvest will be a real Surprise.
I’ve not been poking around too much, these girls have simply run their course without needing any Help !
Great work Beaver Seeds!!!
When the time comes, I look forward to seeing what an Outdoor one produces. And how the plants would look without 1 aggressive LST session.
- Trichome-check tonight = large number of cloudy, with very few Amber. Still some clear with ~ 70% cloudy
26th,
- A gallon of Molasses / Rezin / H20 tonight to keep the juices flowing. Plant rotation etc. Day 5 since flush. Fluff the plants and arrange for Max exposure for the final couple of weeks.
No A/C in the small tent, humidity is just over 50%.
Air is being kept moving
Entering week 10 finds this a very exciting grow. There are Daily changes in bud size and I’m looking forward to some yellowing leaves before this week is out.
- please excuse the purple, have not found a consistent fix for the colour cast ( real photos tonight )
Mar 29
- removed any posts or wires holding the plants. Need a Clean arena for some final pics as this grow gets closer to the end.
- day 8 since the flush.
Mar 30
- 5 litres Water w Molasses/Rezin
April 3
- trichomes are showing a fair number of Amber bulbs here at the end of week 10. But there is also an unusual amount of Clear trichomes.
Patience wins and I will check them again in 2 days, as we head into week 11 for this 9-10 week AutoFlower... Its going to be a easy decision when it happens. There will be a shift in trichomes that IS noticeable. All is good.
April 4th,
- feed of Water/Rezin/Molasses
@ 5L / 2plants
-plant looks great at the end of week 10 ! Just giving them more time to allow more Trichomes to become cloudy...
Apr 5th,
- stating that I had only performed “A Little” LST on the ladies... I was lmao as I pulled the LST hardware from the plants the other nite. Had to include a picture. Forgot how many branches “I Helped”
- Thanks to “Mrs_Larimar” for answering my question about yellowing sugar leaves on Autos...
The LST that I applied, has indeed extended the grow cycle of the plants and I have to apply some patience to this last part of the cycle. Trichomes and sugar leaves are the key indicators over the next couple weeks. It could be that long of an extension. TBD
Apr 6,
- tonight’s feeding of H2O/Molasses/Rezin was full-sized as there is still a large Root system in use and the show is not over! 10L / 2
Maui Wowie got a deep watering, with only a small amount seeping through the bottom !! Success
9th a.m. There are quite a few Fan leaves that have just begun to show the crispy signs of aging and yellowing. It has not begun on the sugar leaves yet, but it’s hapnin !!
- Trichome checks & photos tonight
- I have no control for removing humidity in this small tent in the basement, other than moving air. Spring and maintaining a low humidity, seem to be opposites. Avg RH is above 50 this week, All is good.
11th, did I ever blow that! I changed weeks of flower 2 days early. Edited wrong batch... damn
-pictures from last nite look good. Will carry on updating this week. And next... sorry
- Trichome checks tonight
Apr 12th, the Trichomes are showing quite an increased number that have turned Amber throughout the samples. this may be the last lite tonight for the plants... end of week 12 !?
April 11th,
*** boy did I blow that one, editing the wrong Diary and moving it into the next week, 2 days early... this project is in week 11 till the 13th...
Sorry
- still going to check Trichomes tonight...
April 13th is the first day of week 12.
- the lights went off around 1 a.m., and that is it for the Maui Wowie. ~ 36 hours+ of darkness and they will be trimmed and wet weighed before hanging Wed pm
April 14th
- 3:30 the Hawaiian Ladies are on the table...
164 + 174 grams each makes for a wet weight of 11.9 oz.
See where that goes in 5 days... it all looks and smells decadent !!!
April 14
Everything has gone as planned and beyond.
A proper drying of ~ 5 days is planned and a good cure is intended for a month anyway. Taste test next week! An easy outing that is for sure. “And I still have 4 more seeds!!!!!”
16th, two days after hanging, the little suckers seem to be loosing quite a bit of mass... sooo we will see where its headed, still very moist
17th,
- branches posing no resistance to bending yet
- inspected the plants this afternoon, and further chopped them into smaller pieces.
- combined weight has dropped down to 78 grams after 80 hours in the dark (from 338gr)
**** smoked some “shake” and had a wonderful surprise. Mild flavour if any, beautiful smell, easy smoke with a great vibrant buzz.... Already !!!
Be back in a few days with pre-jarring results...
Apr 18th,
- upon inspecting the root ball I found that the two plants had developed an interwoven root system that commanded a big section of the 15 gallon root ball
Apr 19th
- day 5 since the harvest finds me with branches that snap and the harvest has been cleaned-up & sealed in containers to start the cure. (w/ a 62% Boost in each container) A week of multi-burps is planned
- as this is my 1st Auto, I’m impressed by every aspect of this plant. The one area I am unsure of, and I’m not greedy, but I’m wondering if 2oz is really a satisfactory yield from a pair of Autos.
I know there will be changes to my future grows and watching specific categories for sure to find more efficient efforts. Like Establishing broad root networks, creating a great Soil environment and of course finding the right grow conditions for the right plant(s).
It’s a learning game and we will be doing this again real soon
Apr 21st and I have to call this a successful grow. The smell is building in the air-tight containers as I burp them regularly and I certainly look forward to enjoying this blast from the past. And to the next batch of Autoflowers that I grow in September. ( something along these lines now that I know how much, or how little room they require.... black diesel, lemon pie, sour diesel, bruce banner, gorilla glue. There will be a buffet for X-mas). but heres to Summer people. Thanks to the that Growers who chipped-in and helped me along the way. truly enjoyed the sharing that went on.... CHEERS
23rd
- taste-test ...
May 22nd
- never too late to say that these buds have only improved in the time since my last post about the Maui Wowie.
- Absolutely great Pot! Head full of positive vibes, pulling some crazy tunes out of thin air, that I had not heard in years, and yep, Im going out to paint my fence Lofl....
- d @ 1right_angle
- Nice work Beaver Seeds
