1. Welcome to my winter grow. This is another strain from Growers Choice. I'm really happy with their White Widow. I'm almost to harvest on that strain and it looks to be stellar. This plant should be a lot taller and more Sativa-like.
2. I started germinating strictly in paper towels recently. I wasn't getting good results using the glass of water method so I started putting the seeds in paper towels after being in the glass of water for 24hrs. It made a small improvement, but I was still getting poor success rates. I decided to start them in paper towels then put them on top of my cable box. It was like night and day! All 4 seeds sprouted. This strain was ready for soil after 24hrs.
3. Once sprouted, I put domes on the seedlings to keep the humidity and warmth higher. I started misting them daily with a 25% solution of Remo's Veg. Nutes.
1. The dome is off! MH has a 2nd node and growing fast!
2. She had her first feeding this last week. 400ml of a 25% Remo Veg. Nutrients solution.
3. She is also getting daily mistings of the same solution strength.
4. I'll probably transplant to her final pot at the end of this week, or early next week. I have to get a look at the root development. Usually when the plant takes off in veg. mode, she has a nice root system. My fall grow I allowed the plants to spend a little over 3 weeks in their starter pots. That made training difficult, but the plant was nicely developed by the time I transplanted.
1. I think this week's entry is going to be a combo of 2 weeks. As you can see from the photo, I have one busy tent! I have a few autos finishing up, I have these 4 strains growing in this tent until I harvest my other tent, AND I have 4 little seedlings waiting to be transplanted into 5g containers.
2. I transplanted this girl into a 7g square canvas sack. Her root system was pretty well developed after 2 weeks in the starter pots. I used to wait for 3 weeks, but I found 2 weeks is plenty.
3. I've watered once with a 50% solution of Remo veg nutes. I'm also misting daily with the same solution. My goal is to get a watering schedule established as soon as possible.
1. The fall harvest is finally finished so I can concentrate on my winter photo grow. Again, I have 4 photos in the tent. They are all different strains. I'm doing a diary on each strain. In the fall I only documented 2 of the 4 plants in the tent.
2. A lot has happened since my last entry. The plants are in their final home with the stronger QB. I've also upped their nutrient strength to 8ml/g.
3. Most importantly, I topped MH at the 5th node. I also pruned off the 1st node. I now have 4 solid nodes to develop, not counting the 2 from topping.
4. I did a major defoliation to open up the bud sites. I'll do more pruning once I've trained the branches to my satisfaction. Eventually I'll have all the bud sites arranged like a canopy then I'll let them grow for 3 nodes then flip to 12/12.
5. I did my LST differently this time. Usually I train the bottom 2 nodes horizontally until they reach the edge of the container, then I'll let them go until flower. However, they never reach the same level as the top bud sites, so they suffer a bit. This time I let the bottom nodes grow vertically and I'm training the top nodes horizontally until the lower branches catch up.
1. MH is almost ready for the flip!
2. The side view photo shows a completely defoliated and pruned plant, ready for flowering. I'll let her grow 3 more nodes, then I'll flip her to flower. At her current growth rate, I should flip the tent this weekend.
3. I started using these cool little LST clips. They are really inexpensive and they work great for applying LST to my top growth nodes.
1. Lots has happened in a week or so.
2. Last week I did 2 major defoliations then put the tent on a 24hr. dark period. Then I flipped the tent to 12/12 on Sunday.
3. The plant has almost doubled in size. Some of that is stretch. However, once I was done training the plant, I didn't really prevent the plant from growing tall. I knew that she would only be in veg. for a week or two at the most and she is in a 7g pot. I figure I can safely accommodate the stretch in my tent.
4. I switched to flowering nutes for the first watering of this week.
1. Buds started appearing a few days ago. MH is looking great!
2. I want to defoliate and prune off the popcorn branches, but I'll wait and give the buds another week to develop.
3. In the meantime I'll just feed her and watch the flowers grow.
1. Yawn, nothing really to do.
2. I've done the major defoliation after the stretch. I'll continue to trim fan leaves that are blocking the lower colas. I'll also continue to cut off the popcorn buds for a little while longer. As the flowers develop you can start seeing some of the lower branches/buds are not going to amount to much.
3. Fertigation is about every 4 days with my Remo Flowering mixture. Four days really pushes it. If I wait and water in the evening of the 4th day, the plants are all droopy.
4. Otherwise, I just check in on them several times a day to say, "What's up?"
1.This is one beautiful plant. I love the way the buds are forming along the main stalks. It reminds me of buying herb when I was a teenager.
2. Buds are maturing nicely. I think they are just going to start filling in and developing trichomes the rest of the way. Considering how frosty MH is already, I can hardly wait!
3. Fertigation remains unchanged. She is fed every 4th day, in the morning. I'll keep up this schedule for another few weeks then taper nutes down to 5ml/g for 3-4 feedings. Then I'll just water with filtered water until harvest. I expect harvest in abou 4-5 weeks.
1. The end is near. Buds are mature and swollen. Trichomes are starting to turn orange, and the pistils have pretty much receded.
2. MH has been getting nothing but filtered water for the last week. That will continue for another week until I harvest.
3. I really like the bud structure on this plant. Long stalks with lots of nice, frosty buds. It reminds me of some of the herb I had when I was a young stoner.
I had high hopes for this plant. I had already grown 1 strain from this breeder and I liked the way it turned out. This strain was looking really choice during its growth, but it was heavily seeded when I took it down and trimmed her up for jarring. There were other plants in the tent that were seeded as well, but this is the only one where I found pollen sacs. She must've hermed sometime during flowering and pollinated the other plants. Bad Mexican Haze! I think this is also why my yield was significantly lower than normal.
Heavily seeded and pollinated the rest of my tent! I'm not going to put the blame solely on this plant. There were 4 plants in the tent and 3 were seeded. This is the only plant that I found pollen sacs and pollen, so she gets the blame. I think a few things went wrong. Firstly, the grow tent started getting really warm towards the end of flowering. We had a real warm spell and the tent was in the 90s several days in a row. I also found that all of the plants were having issues with light intensity so I turned down my lights. Finally, this strain finished rather quickly. I was expecting another 2-3 weeks, but she was done! I could've waited too long to harvest. Anyway, I have more seeds and now I know this strain. I'll give her another go in the fall and pay attention to her peculiarities.
@DoDrugs420, Again thanks for looking at all my recent grows. I think this is the strain that hermed and pollinated my entire tent. I'm going to save the seeds from my AK-47 and grow a few as an experiment.
