Official strain seeds press:
A classic Greek heirloom collected from a farming family in Kalamata region 15 years ago. This line had been cultivated in their village for more than 30 years, though cultivation there has ceased due to enforcement pressure, and the village is now abandoned.
‘Kalamata Red’ was a famous underground brand during the ’70s and ’80s. Red colouration is a trait of some plants in this line, particularly due to cold conditions. Other phenotypes are light green. Euphoric, creative, and ‘psychedelic’ effects are what this strain is renowned for.
There are various theories as to the origin of these domesticates, none of which can yet be verified. Interestingly, on the Phylos Galaxy chart, no immediate ancestor for Kalamata Red can yet be determined. Likely origins include the wider Balkans and Eastern Mediterranean region.
These seeds were produced from several selected mothers and a choice “alpha male” from the 2019 generation.
Plants have relatively low requirements for feeding. Resistance to pests, mold, and heat is excellent.
Due to their rarity and the risks involved in sourcing and maintaining these plants in Greece, the price tag is high.
- So hello my fellow growers. This is a very exciting project, a pheno hunt of this old and famous landrace strain from Greece with a purpose of bringing back to life that old school legend and maybe even develop it further with some back crossings or crossings with other strains etc. Definitely a long project with some nice hopefully surprises on the way.
Week 3 already and these little creatures start showing some of their characteristics and as seen on the photos one of them is short bushy like and the other one is tall double or even triple the height of the short one. Its a landrace strain without much of a genetic background so patience will only help find out what is what and clear things out. Never had a pure sativa grown before so dont know wether the tall one is a normal sativa height or just a male trait, as for the short one, hopefully that is a female sativa with shorter traits. Other than that I feel very exciting growing this particular strain even though is a low yielder it really worth the effort and the high.
The technique i mainly use so far is the pinching of stems on every new node as I believe if done properly from early stage the stem becomes a body builder looking stem able to hold more bud weight.

@Kayaboy,-i totally understand why you sourced it buddy.. Really hope they do great and the breeding goes well also.. Of course i would be honoured if you consider me when you are ready mate.. Stay safe and best wishes buddy.. 😁👍🍀
@Jef79, i still see people searching for this Greek Landrace, the ones who tried it on holiday or just locals who used to have a steady supply of it back in the day. I also tried it back in the day and we all had a nice extended laugh and nice high...well see how it goes :) maybe I could send you some fem seeds when I manage to do produce some and try too :) xxx
Looking forward to see how they will grow. I was searching seeds for my grow and this diamonds appeared in a website. Because of the time i choose to grow them (Kalamata landrace) on winter inside and buy autos for now. Hope seeds will be available
:) Good luck mate, cheers!
Also check icmag -> international forums -> Greek diaries!
@Papastroumf, yes buddy, 4 out 4 germinated so time will tell what we got here...lets hope for 4 girls :) cant really believe i got my hands on this and have the chance to grow it to full potential, indoors with some HST for density and hopefully a little thc increase, terps, flavs and colours
at their high levels under optimum conditions...what we used to smoke back then im sure wasnt 100% dried, cured, stored or even grown properly so I guess this time under all dialed in we'll see this strains missing characteristics and potentials .... :) as for your 7 autos good luck man, hopefully they will stash you till september or october when it cool down and be more suitable, even though you can still grow in hot environments with proper equipment and/or genetics found in some strains or from personal breedings even though there is still so much research going on now that everything is debatable :) happy growing xxx
@Kayaboy, I feel really happy that there are also other people that believe on this old legend landrace !!!! Hope you the best , cheers. I start my grow also now, with 7 autos , because summer is coming and also high temperature.
@Papastroumf, thank your for your comment. Indeed this is a very exciting grow for a strain that takes you back in time if you managed to smoke some of it back then. I just threw 4 seeds in water for now that will start in 12/12 light and let them show their sex and hopefully we get some females to play with before heat season starts and have a break from growing till september...in september I will sprout the rest seeds, the plan is to breed this and hopefully find some exciting new genetic traits in some male plants that I can then pass them on to clones from hopefully special pheno mothers etc etc and who knows, maybe create a stable line with bigger yields and more enhanced characteristics of Kalamata Red.... all good with your grows too !! :)
I have the kalamata red from delicorganic on the go now as well as his cretian and another Greek heirloom called “athina” from fat Rasta.
Beautiful sativa plants loving you the greenhouse in Puna hawaii. Will update as they progress. Two nice females of the kalamata bout a month in flower. Stretched pretty good but hopefully getting ready to put on some weight.
Love the structure and already seeing some trichomes.. gotta love heirloom cannabis
@GoodGearSeeds, nice man nice...heading to your page now to enjoy looking at them....im about to start a Kalamata Red regular batch any time soon hopefully some girls this time with their precious flowers
