Reflecting on 1st grow: when should I have started pinching the side growth? There are lots of small buds on thin branches that are not going to develop as much. I thought that leaves help plants grow, so probably I kept too many of them. What the basic wisdom on pruning?

Mostly a matter of preference. I personally do it gradually as I see it. If a large fan leaf is blocking light to potential bud sites I tuck it if possible and pluck it if I can't. I pluck lower budsites that don't have a chance of getting reasonable amounts of light every week. Ill do a lollipop a few days before I flip 12/12 and then another little cleanup a week after. My goal is to create a wide canopy with direct light and get rid of the bottom half. Check out my crown royale diary I just did a big clean up on my last entry with some upskirt photos. Bigger leaves shading lower branches??As you can see in my last photos (DAY 28) plants are developing lower side branches. Should I get rid off the larger leaves which shade the lower branches?
