I have been told many times over not to defoliate an auto due to the short veg period. You're best off doing LST to get light into the flowering sites. Leaves being the sugar power source during flower are needed, and autos enter flower early, so you would be taking away a source of growth. Bending leaves out of the way is your best path forward (or LST) and trying to bend the plant too hard (HST) could stress the plant (same goes for topping and FIMing) and cause it to herm or stunt it's growth. Just try and bend them out of the way with some gardening wire. Happy growing and happy harvest!
