I can't see a picture of the plant so can't recommend any leaf removal. Have you tried leaf tucking.

I usually wait until the end of stretch, so around week 3 / day 21 of flower. You can try and tuck the leaves so the bud sites get more light. There are different opinions if it is beneficial or not to defoliate, some swear by it and some don't. I do think it helps if the plants are bushy with a lot of leaves. I only do selective defoliation and only remove leaves that are blocking bud sites. Maximum 25% of the leaves.

Personally, I never defoliate...........if your plant would not need those leaves, it would not grow them in the first place! The leaves are the solar panels that power the bud growth and the buds will grow out from under the leaves anyhow. Try and only ever remove yellow leaves, for by the time they are yellow, they have served their purpose. Just remember, Maximum amount of healthy green leaves = maximum amount of energy production = maximum amount of (bud) growth. However, some light, well considered "lollipopping" can be done during early flower, no problem.
