trunk state when cut for clone

Hi GD, I was on my first timer growing photoperiod, which is I want to try a clone from topped and grow in the same tent as mom.
Question is how was the main trunk should be look like when taking cut? dont want to cut it too late ( my goal was clone from topped not branches )

I find as long as the plant is not flowering, any top is fine for cloning.
