I use left over cotton yarn, soft and not to thin, bright red and only cost a buck at the store. Lot of options. don't sweat it. don't over think it.

I use hooks from the dollar store and green twist tie wire

Just use rubber coated garden wire or ties and you'll be fine 🙌
