I would do it like this:
1. First, cut off all the leaves at the top that are blocking light from the middle and other upper shoots.
2. Then, cut away the lower shoots that are no longer growing well in the sun, but I would try to remove leaves above them first.
3. Cut away very low growth, small sprouts, and hanging leaves in the lower 5 cm of the plant, so that energy is directed to the upper shoots. Better than having half the potential down below.
In the end, you want to remove unnecessary foliage to give your shoots perfect sunlight; otherwise, you’ll just get popcorn or nothing at all. A good rule of thumb, in my opinion, is that anything the size of your hand can be cut off, unless it’s hanging completely outward.
