Erde im Topf vollständig erneuern?

I had to renew my lady's soil. I took her out of the pot, "knocked off" the soil from the roots, and rinsed them. Then I just planted her in new soil (the roots were hanging freely). Should I have trimmed the roots? What can I expect now? Thanks

Why did you have to renew the soil? That info would still be helpful :)
