Caterpillars or fusarium?

Can caterpillar damage look like fusarium? Just hours ago with the help of @Lerome fusarium has been diagnosed on one of my plants. I kept on looking and finally cut off the most affected branch. Opening it up I’ve found a few caterpillars. Can it be that we have misdiagnosed?

It is possible i think, it looks like they have been feeding alot inside that stem. ( almost looks like sawdust ) The question is, did the caterpillars cause this or are they a second pest that took advantage of the plant/spot that has been weakened by fusarium... Does the brown tissue feel hard and woody or is it soft and mushy? Does it smell moldy/mushy/fungal ? I hope for you its "only" caterpillars and not fusarium. You might be able to save your lady then. Good luck!
